Chapter 181: Evelyn Shows Laurel Her Place

When Laurel had heard Lady Irwin’s words that the banquet was to be organized in a week, she was gloating...gloating at Evelyn’s misfortunes.

She was sure that Evelyn won’t be able to learn everything in a week. At least in learning the dance moves, she would take a whole month or more could also be expected.

And the dance was an important part of the banquet. The banquet was always incomplete if the prince didn’t dance with his newly wedded wife or his intended.

Hence, she had already imagined how Evelyn would stand in a corner roof of the banquet hall while Regan would dance with someone else.

She had even imagined who that someone else, in particular, will be.

However, all her imagination was shattered by the evening came.

Looking at Evelyn who was dancing so elegantly with Lady Bennett, Laurel twisted her handkerchief in disbelief, anger, and resentment.

"This is great! If it went on like this...I am sure that Your Highness will learn everything in three days only. We won’t even need a week, isn’t it Lady Irwin?"

Lady Bennett smiled and looked toward Lady Irwin while guiding Evelyn to the next step.

Evelyn suppressed the smile that was threatening to form on her lips when she saw that Lady Irwin indeed nodded her head.

She had not expected that the dance would be so easy to learn....at least it was easier than learning to hold and use a knife and a fork.

She could easily copy the moves Lady Bennett taught her.

It was evening now and Evelyn had already learned half of the dance moves.

"I think it is enough for today."

Lady Bennett said as she removed her hand from Evelyn’s waist and left her hand while taking a step back.

"Your Highness is a very good learner."

She didn’t forget to praise Evelyn.

Evelyn smiled and curtsied as she said

"Thank you, Lady Bennett. It is Lady Bennett who is a good teacher."

However, Lady Bennett shook her head and said

"No, Your Highness must believe me. I have taught Lady Laurel as well. Even she took a whole two weeks in learning dance, isn’t it Lady Laurel?"

As if Laurel was not burning with enough envy already, Lady Bennett’s words were like adding fuel to the fire.

However, she had to smile forcefully and say

"Lady Bennett said right."

After this small interaction, Lady Bennett and Lady Irwin left for their rooms. Fortunately, Evelyn had already asked the maid to clean a room in the morning when she had come to know of Lady Bennett’s arrival. A room beside Lady Irwin was already for Lady Bennett.

The palace they lived in was smaller than the Royal Palace but it still had enough rooms.

Still, Evelyn decided to ask the maids to clean other rooms as well. As the mistress of the palace, it was now her duty to ensure that no guest faced any difficulty.

Evelyn also decided to visit the kitchen once and see if there were enough servants to cook the food. She was on her way to leave the garden when Laurel suddenly blocked her way.

Evelyn blinked in surprise. She was not even aware that Laurel had still not left. She actually didn’t know what Laurel was doing in the Palace.

Lady Irwin was here to teach her but Laurel did nothing except stand aside and eating snacks. However, she couldn’t say anything as Lady Irwin had said that Laurel was sent here by the King.

She looked at Laurel and asked politely

"Does Lady Laurel need anything?"

Laurel’s eyes flashed with rage when she saw how Evelyn was behaving like a true mistress of the Palace. She sneered coldly and said

"Do you think that just because everyone calls you ’Your Highness’, you ...a lowly slave would become a princess consort? I warn you not to fly so high, slave. Otherwise, when you will fall down on your face, it will hurt you a lot. And I am very sure that you would only make a mockery of the Royal family in the banquet ...so I will suggest you not attend it."

All the politeness from Evelyn’s face vanished.

Laurel was so aggressive in insulting her that she didn’t even give Evelyn any chance to defend herself. Evelyn really felt weak in front of her for a moment...but only for a moment.

Because the next moment, Regan’s words flashed in her mind.

’If you let people insult you...that means you are letting them insult me."

How could Evelyn let that happen! The prince was the person to defend whom she could even give her life regardless of who was standing in front of her!

Then who was Laurel!

Hence, her eyes went cold when she looked at Laurel.

Laurel was so surprised by the expression on Evelyn’s face that she took a step back. However, Evelyn was not finished just like that. She remembered very well what Laurel had said to her a day ago.

She had insulted her capacity for learning. Then why did she forget to praise her today! Evelyn didn’t actually expect any praise but she wouldn’t let Laurel step down on herself again.

Staring at Laurel coldly, she said

"Lady Laurel, I would advise you not to talk to me that way again. If you don’t heed the advice...then it would not take me long to ask His Highness to prepare a carriage for you that can leave you back home."

Laurel gasped in shock. She was shocked that a slave dared to talk back to her.

"You..."

She opened her mouth to insult Evelyn again. However, Evelyn didn’t let her say anything and said

"I am no longer a slave. So I demand you to respect me. Also...you are a guest here, so stay like a guest. If you can’t then you are more than welcome to leave this Palace. Anyway, your arrival was never desired in this Palace."

Evelyn finished and then left from there without giving Laurel any chance to speak.

On the other hand, Laurel could only look at her back and stand there with shock-filled eyes.
