Chapter 175: Making Evelyn Confident
Chapter 175: Making Evelyn Confident
Worried that Evelyn was sick, Regan hurriedly walked to Evelyn but with silent steps. He didn’t wish to wake her up if she was really deeply asleep.
Therefore, he carefully leaned towards her to check her temperature and sighed in relief when her forehead was not warm
However, at the same time, his eyes fell on the wetness on her cheek and he frowned instantly.
Was she crying? But why?
Unconsciously, he traced her tears with his fingers gently attempting to wipe them away. However, his movements woke up Evelyn.
Regan stiffened when Evelyn stirred. He was about to take his hand away because he was afraid that she would be scared seeing him so close.
However, Rex’s words suddenly flashed inside his mind, he didn’t take his hand back.
Hence, when Evelyn opened her eyes she found Regan so close to her that she could even feel his warm breath fanning her cheeks.
Evelyn’s eyes widened with shock and surprise as she wondered what the prince was doing.
However, Regan didn’t give her much time to ponder on this. He knew that he couldn’t make her uncomfortable so he tried to divert her attention asked the question which was plaguing his mind since the moment he saw her tears.
"Why were you crying?"
Evelyn stiffened and shook her head lightly as if ready to deny that she was not crying.
However, Regan held her cheek and caressed the wetness on them and looked at her with narrowed eyes and said
"Don’t lie."
Evelyn went silent at that and she didn’t even move.
What could she say?
Regan didn’t know what was going on inside her mind. But this time, he was not going to take a step back.
He wanted to know everything that went inside her mind. Because she knew that she would not tell him on her own.
"Tell me."
He said calmly as he caressed her cheek.
Evelyn’s breath hitched when she felt his callused fingers on her cheek. She didn’t understand why the prince was so close to her.
Could they not talk to each other with prince at a decent distance away from her?
It was not that she didn’t like it...but it made her feel very nervous. So nervous that she couldn’t think of anything for a moment.
On the other hand, Regan sighed when he saw that she was not saying anything.
He looked into her eyes which were filled with confusion but her flustered expression also didn’t escape his eyes.
So she was nervous.
He concluded.
Instead of moving away, he held her hand and looked at the ring he had slid in her hand on the day of their marriage.
He couldn’t help but caress it lightly.
"What did you learn today?"
He asked gently without looking at her. Evelyn was still looking at him. Even though his mask covered his half face, she couldn’t help but find him attractive.
She gulped and answered his question.
"I learnt to use ...fork and knife."
Regan raised his head at this and said
"But you don’t use knife."
Evelyn nodded her head lightly still trying to divert her mind from the feeling she was getting because of prince’s hand holding her fingers.
However, she couldn’t go far away. After all, she was lying on the bed and Regan was hovering over her. The position was so intimate that Evelyn blushed unconsciously.
Regan could see this. He smiled slightly and stroked her cheek again as he asked
"You didn’t reply."
Evelyn blinked. She didn’t know why but she actually felt that the prince was finding her amusing when she saw the smile on his lips.
And she was doomed.
Because even that smile left her breathless.
Why did she feel as if the prince was trying to seduce her? It couldn’t be possible, could it be?
"Evelyn..."
Regan called out again and Evelyn swallowed as she tried to remember what he had said a few seconds ago.
"Lady Irwin said that I should still learn it.
She replied finally. However, with this came the remembrance of Laurel’s words and Evelyn’s mind was no longer on Regan.
Regan could feel this.
He frowned but considerably moved away.
He sat by her side and asked calmly
"What happened? Did Lady Irwin scold you for something?"
Evelyn shook her head immediately after hearing his words but she also saw that Regan was waiting for her to tell him the reason she had been crying for.
But she felt very conflicted.
Would he also think that she was a slow learner? That she was wasting everyone’s time.
"Should I ask Lady Irwin what happened?"
Regan said calmly but Evelyn found it a threat.
What would Lady Irwin think if the prince really asked her this question? And Lady Irwin didn’t even know what happened to her.
Evelyn immediately held Regan’s hand when she saw that he was ready to leave the room. She was afraid that he would really go to Lady Irwin.
"It is me. Lady Irwin did nothing. I took the whole day to learn how to use a knife and fork...which is a very simple thing. I felt upset thinking that I wasted so much time on Lady Irwin."
Regan clicked his tongue when he heard these words.
Looking at Evelyn he said
"You overthink a lot, Evelyn."
Evelyn looked at him wondering if that was his way of comforting her. But whatever he said, she didn’t believe him.
She actually believed Laurel.
Laurel was so beautiful, so elegant and she also looked very intelligent. Lady Irwin praised her so many times today. She must have learned everything faster than her.
Regan could see that she was not listening to him.
He frowned as he held her hand and said
"Evelyn, different people learn different things at a different pace. Will you believe me if I say that it took me whole two days to learn to use a knife and fork?"
After all, he learned it at the age of five when he couldn’t even hold them properly but there was no need to tell Evelyn all this.
He needed her to gain some confidence in herself.
