Chapter 174: Laurel Mocks Evelyn
Chapter 174: Laurel Mocks Evelyn
Lady Irwin was to stay in the Palace only until Evelyn learned everything. It was only today that Evelyn got to know that since Regan had married her, a banquet was soon to be held for celebrating this occasion.
Evelyn was surprised as she knew very well that the King was not even a bit happy with her marriage to the prince.
Then would the celebration still occur?
However, Lady Irwin solved her confusion by telling her that the banquet was to be held regardless of who the prince married. It was a bad omen to not celebrate a Royal Prince’s marriage.
Till now, Regan was the first prince to marry. Raphael and Richard did have concubines but they didn’t have any wives.
And Rex neither had any concubines nor any wives.
Hence, the celebration was more special.
Lady Irwin also told Evelyn that she was here to ready Evelyn for that occasion only. By the time the banquet would be announced, Evelyn should learn all the mannerisms of Royals so that she would not embarrass Regan as well as the Royal family in the banquet.
After knowing this, Evelyn was nervous. But she was also more attentive to learning everything as quickly as she could.
However, no matter how much she tried, things took their own time to be learned. That was what was happening now.
Since morning, Lady Irwin was teaching Evelyn the manner of eating in Royals and Evelyn was able to grasp it by evening only.
She never knew that there were so many things a person was supposed to look out for when they ate.
That the knife should be held in the right hand and the fork in the left. In fact, she rarely used knife while having her meals.
Because she was vegetarian, she wouldn’t knife and her spoon or fork would be enough for her to eat comfortably.
But Lady Irwin didn’t listen to this and was bent on making her learn it.
Evelyn sighed and focused on learning but inside her heart, the thought of cutting already-cut fruits with a knife and then using a fork to eat it made her feel that it was simply a waste of time.
After all, all this was new for her.
But by evening, she was finally happy when she could eat without doing any mistakes. Her eyes shone with victory and when she raised her head she even saw Lady Irwin nodding her head in satisfaction.
Evelyn was happy that after so many failed attempts of her, she finally got it.
Lady Irwin stood up and said
"I think it is enough for today, Your Highness. Tomorrow, we will learn how to bow or curtsy in front of people you are supposed to."
Evelyn nodded her head and said politely
"Yes, Lady Irwin. Your room is ready. I assume that you must be tired. The maid will show you the way to the room."
Evelyn spoke in a different tone than morning and Lady Irwin was satisfied to see this. In the morning, she looked rather submissive which was not a good thing as she was a princess consort.
Even the maid by her side looked more confident than her at that time.
But at this moment, she could finally see a trace of confidence in Evelyn. It was good if one day could change her this much. Then she wouldn’t need to work hard on Evelyn.
Lady Irwin nodded her head and followed the maid to her room.
Evelyn’s stiff body finally relaxed when she saw Lady Irwin leaving. She was trying her best but she didn’t know if she would be able to satisfy Lady Irwin.
But she will learn slowly and slowly.
Learning table mannerisms successfully today brought her confidence and Evelyn finally felt that she could do it.
However, her happiness and confidence were only for a small amount of time.
Because soon Laurel who had been standing on a side until now walked to her and said in a mocking voice.
"Do you think that you have achieved something great by learning how to use knife and fork?"
Evelyn frowned and turned around to look at Laurel. She didn’t understand what kind of problem Laurel had with her.
However, Laurel sneered coldly seeing her silent and continued
"Even a child would learn something like this sooner than you and by sooner I mean to imply that only in a couple of hours. Just like I did."
Laurel smirked when she saw Evelyn’s face losing its color. Good. Because she didn’t like to see her happiness at all.
It made her feel irritated.
"If you took a whole day in learning how to use a knife and fork, I wonder how many days you will take to learn to dance in a ball. What a waste of time it would be for Lady Irwin!"
Evelyn’s eyes started to fill with tears when she heard Laurel and the latter was very satisfied to see this.
With a cold hmph, she walked away from there while Evelyn stood there with lowered head.
The little bit of confidence she had gathered diminished just like that.
Perhaps Laurel was right.
She was indeed a waste of time.
Evelyn bit her lips as she didn’t wish to cry. In the end, she went to the room.
.
.
.
Regan returned in the evening only with Rex.
The first thing he did was to ask the maid about Evelyn and whether she had her lunch. Evelyn had her lunch with Lady Irwin and Laurel.
Still, Regan thought that she might not have eaten her full because of her discomfort in front of Lady Irwin.
Hence, he asked the maid to send some snacks to their room and he himself went to see her.
However, when he opened the door, he saw Evelyn lying on the bed and covered with a blanket.
Regan frowned because he knew that Evelyn never slept during the daytime. Sometimes, he had to order her to rest.
Hence, he found it strange.
The next moment, however, he suddenly wondered if she was alright.
Could it be that she was sick and therefore she was resting?
