Chapter 170: Learning To Talk It Out
Chapter 170: Learning To Talk It Out
After that, they rarely saw each other before breakfast.
Evelyn took her dress and undergarments from the closet and went to the room she used to stay before to have a bath.
Once inside the bathroom, her eyes were suddenly filled with tears and she immediately wiped them. However, fresh tears immediately replaced them.
Evelyn felt upset because she thought that it was something that she did to upset the prince. The prince looked so unhappy just now. It must be because she woke him up.
She couldn’t do even a single thing correctly.
Evelyn felt very disappointed in herself. In a very upset mood, she had a bath and got readied. Today, when the maid came to help her, she didn’t say anything while the maid continued to try new hairstyles on her.
On the other hand, Regan reached inside the dining room and sat on his chair with a cold face. Rex who was expecting to see pink bubbles around his brother after last night was surprised to see his cold face.
He sighed and signed Elias to leave the room.
Elias did so very obediently and Rex finally asked his brother.
"What is wrong with you? On the second day of your marriage, you have such a cold face as if the whole world owes you something."
Regan glared at Rex but Rex was not fazed by his glare and looked at him with a bored expression on his face.
"Spit it out. Tell me how you messed up now so that I can plan to clean it."
Rex was sure that something went wrong and hence Regan looked so upset. Regan frowned but opened his mouth a few moments later.
"I pointed my dagger at Evelyn the first thing in the morning."
"Woah!"
Rex said loudly and looked at his brother with surprise-filled eyes and asked
"Now from when did you start to have such fantasies?"
Regan glared at Rex again but Rex waited for him to answer his question.
"I felt a touch in my sleep. As a reflex action, I thought that it was an enemy and hence...."
"Hence, you tried to kill her."
Rex shook his head and shuddered at the same time as he said
"On the second day of marriage, you tried to kill your wife. If I was Evelyn, I would have run away from you."
Regan’s heart sank when he heard this and he glared at Rex again but this time his eyes were deathly cold. Rex also realized that if he didn’t calm Regan, then he would burst out at any moment so he laughed and said
"Why are so worried then? You should have explained to her. I am sure that she will understand."
Regan frowned again as he said
"She looked scared. I wanted to explain but when I turned to look at her, she flinched. So I left her alone."
Rex wondered why his brother was so dumb when it came to Evelyn but no one could stand in front of him when it came to making strategies on the battlefield to trap the enemy.
In other words, Regan had a very well understanding of the enemy’s mind but he was zero in knowing how to win a girl’s heart.
Rex sighed as he said
"Even I would be scared if someone would stare at me coldly with a dagger in their hands the first thing in the morning, Regan. Her reaction is very natural. But you should have explained it to her. Only God knows what that girl must be thinking. And it is not your fault as well. You have not slept with anyone else before. Slowly and slowly you will adapt to it."
"Later, you will be able to recognize Evelyn from her touch, her smell, and even your...."
"Shut up!"
Regan said coldly but Rex laughed on seeing his red ears. He was laughing so hard that his eyes were starting to fill with tears.
"I never knew that my brother also felt shy."
Regan kicked his leg and left the dining room to find Evelyn.
Indeed, he needed to explain it to Evelyn.
He found Evelyn in her previous room and seated in front of the dressing table. It was the same maid from yesterday and Evelyn was sitting in front of the mirror silently.
Neither the maid nor Evelyn realized his presence so he coughed lightly.
Evelyn came out of his trance and the maid immediately bowed her head. She glanced at Evelyn from the mirror slightly and said
"My Lady, it is done. I will take my leave."
Evelyn nodded her head in a daze and her eyes went to Regan but only for a moment.
After the maid left, she stood up and turned in Regan’s direction. However, her head stayed lowered. Regan thought that she was still scared. He didn’t walk closer to her and said
"This morning... I didn’t mean to scare you. I just...it is a natural reaction of a trained soldier. When I felt a touch, I thought it was an enemy. I didn’t know it was you. I apologize Evelyn."
Evelyn raised her head in surprise when she heard him apologizing and said instantly
"It is not Your Highness’ mistake. I should have been careful."
Regan shook his head and walked closer to her. He had opened his mouth to say something when his eyes fell on Evelyn’s eyes and he frowned deeply as he asked
"Did you cry?"
Evelyn blinked and immediately shook her head while looking away from him. However, Regan was not having any of it and said firmly
"Evelyn, look at me."
Evelyn still tried to avoid looking at him as she said
"It is nothing, Your Highness."
Hence, Regan held her chin and made her look at him.
Her eyes were clearly red and swollen and she was saying that she didn’t cry. He felt very upset and asked very seriously
"Who made you cry? And tell me the truth."
Evelyn hesitated and didn’t say anything for a long time so Regan concluded on his own.
"Was it that maid?"
As he asked this, he was ready to go and called the maid to ask what she said to make Evelyn upset. However, Evelyn immediately held his arm and said
"The maid didn’t say anything."
"Then?"
Regan questioned and Evelyn sighed before she told him the truth.
"I thought that I upset Your Highness. So I was feeling very disappointed with myself."
