Chapter 153: Derrick’s Plans
(A Day Later)
Regan walked to the Royal Chambers and the Royal Guards who were guarding the entrance bowed their heads when they saw him.
After getting permission from the king who was already waiting for Regan, the guards allowed Regan inside the chambers.
Stepping inside the chambers, Regan calmly walked to the front where he could see Derrick seated with a not so good expression on his face.
However, before saying anything, Derrick looked at his son for a few moments. He could count on his fingers the time he had seen him and the amount of time he had seen his son after he had returned.
His red eyes reminded him of the woman Derrick had loved dearly. Perhaps that’s why even though he couldn’t see even a speck of love and respect in Regan’s eyes for himself, Derrick found himself giving in to him every time.
Or perhaps his heart knew somewhere that he had indeed wronged him.
Derrick looked away for a moment before he asked Regan in his cold voice which he used usually while talking to everyone. However, one with keen eyes would be able to see the softness in Derrick’s eyes which was very unique and only for Regan.
"Regan, I need to talk to you about your slave.
There were two reasons behind Derrick calling him. The first was because he wanted to see him. The second was to make him aware of what was coming.
Derrick had heard from the minister who was sent with Arthur how Regan had behaved when Arthur had demanded his slave.
Derrick could understand. Perhaps Regan was behaving like this because that slave belonged to him. However, Derrick thought that as long as he could make Regan understand the situation, he would agree to give that slave to Arthur.
However, Derrick didn’t know that he was very wrong.
Regan still stood calmly as he waited for Derrick to begin who spoke
"Regan, You have already met Sir Arthur. He claims that the slave by your side is his wife who was taken away from him because of some uncontrollable circumstances. So I want you to give your slave to Sir Arthur."
Regan chuckled when Derrick finished and said calmly
"Your Majesty surely jests. That slave is bought by me. Why should I give it to someone else? So what if she is someone else’s wife? According to the rules, she belongs to me from the moment I bought her."
Regan didn’t wish to talk as if Evelyn was some sort of commodity but the circumstances were making him do something he didn’t wish to do.
On the other hand, Derrick frowned when he heard Regan and said a moment later.
"Regan, that slave is very important. Sir Arthur claims to know everything about Prince William. He might even know where William is residing hiding from us. If we complete his wish, we can get a lot of important information from him."
But Regan still said calmly
"Your Majesty doesn’t need to worry about Prince William. I will go to Zamorin and find him."
If this could reduce the number of people on Arthur’s side, Regan would do it. He didn’t wish that people would pressurize him for giving Evelyn to Arthur...something which he won’t ever do.
"You won’t do that, Regan. I don’t allow it!"
Derrick said fiercely as he stood up from the huge majestic chair he was seated on.
William might be hiding anywhere in Zamorin. The troops from Alfaros had been looking for him since the end of the battle but they have been unable to find him. In such circumstances, Derrick couldn’t send Regan to Zamorin.
However, his concern looked fake to Regan who smiled coldly and said
"I didn’t see Your Majesty this worried when Your Majesty sent me to the battlefield at the age of twelve."
Guilt immediately filled Derrick’s eyes but he didn’t say anything except look away from his son’s eyes.
But he didn’t regret what he did. At that time, the way Regan was behaving, he could only send him to the battlefield...away from Royal Palace.
Otherwise, Regan might have killed Queen Dianna which would have cost him much more.
In fact, Regan also didn’t blame Derrick now. But he could never forgive Derrick for many other things.
"I just wanted the best for you, Regan."
Derrick said but Regan didn’t look moved at all.
"Your Majesty must be busy. I only came here to say that Evelyn would stay by my side only. No one can take her away."
This time, Derrick stared into his son’s eyes and said these words.
Needless to say, he had been surprised when he had come to know that Regan had bought a slave. His son’s stance when Raphael locked that girl inside the dungeons shocked him.
But at that time, Derrick had not thought about this much. However, right now he was forced to wonder what exactly that slave’s position for his son was.
Because if it was more than that of a slave, then Derrick knew that he couldn’t let this slave stay by his son’s side ...regardless of what his son wished.
Hence, Derrick cleared his throat and offered
"I can give you many other slaves. You can choose any of them. The most beautiful will be yours, Regan. Give that slave to Sir Arthur."
Derrick really wished that Regan would accept his offer. That would relieve him of many worries regarding the safety of his empire as well as the well-being of his son.
However, Regan continued to smile coldly and then he said
"Unfortunately, Your Majesty...I need that slave only."
And this time, Derrick finally saw the possessiveness and firm will to keep that slave in his son’s eyes. As a man who had loved a woman dearly once, how could Derrick not understand the emotion flickering in his son’s eyes?
"You will have to answer in Royal Court, Regan. Think carefully."
Derrick almost warned but Regan calmly left Royal chambers and Derrick sat down on the chair with a very grim expression on his face.
It seemed that he would have to break his son’s heart once again.
Derrick didn’t wish to do that but he needed to do it.
That slave couldn’t stay with Regan.
