Chapter 151: Sold!
Chapter 151: Sold!
Evelyn didn’t know where Gianna was taking her. She asked many times but Gianna was not speaking to her at all.
In the end, she could only try to keep up with her pace as she was running very fast. Evelyn’s legs were hurting. Even her arms were hurting. Everywhere where Gianna had hit her before, hurt very badly but she didn’t even whimper followed Gianna silently.
She remembered that she had heard Arthur’s shout when Gianna had locked him inside with herself. It seemed that Gianna beat him a lot. In the past, she had seen Gianna scolding Arthur without his fault. She had always felt bad for him.
But for the first time, Evelyn didn’t feel any pity for Arthur.
Perhaps Mother was taking me to break this marriage. Evelyn remembered that Oliver had told her that the marriage could be broken but it would only be with the permission of either parent of the husband or with the permission of the husband.
Since Gianna was with her, this marriage can be broken.
However, the expectations were far from reality.
When Gianna stopped walking, it was almost night. The sun had set already and Evelyn could see a crowd of people around her on their way. However, Gianna was holding her hand firmly so she didn’t get lost.
They stopped in front of a huge shop and Evelyn saw Gianna leaving her hand to walk to the shopkeeper. She didn’t know what she was talking about to the shopkeeper.
But the shopkeeper looked towards her and caressed his chin with scrutiny filled in his eyes.
Evelyn didn’t like his gaze.
It felt his gaze was as if he was assessing some sort of good. Then he nodded his head and said something to Gianna.
She saw him handing a paper to Gianna who filled something in it and then she saw the shopkeeper giving Gianna a pouch.
She wondered what was inside the pouch.
Finally, Gianna walked to her. Her eyes however didn’t feel right to her when Gianna was staring at her.
"Mother..."
She whispered and tried to hold her hand but Gianna pushed her hand away and said coldly
"It’s because of you that I lost my son. I wish that I had never brought you to my house, Evelyn."
Evelyn’s eyes got filled with tears when she heard Gianna’s words. Her lips and chin trembled and she tried to hold Gianna’s hands again as she whispered
"I am sorry, Mother..."
But Gianna again pushed her hand away mercilessly and continued
"He is right. In the end, no matter how much I dislike him he is my son...only remaining son. I can’t really go to the authorities and complain about him....but I can’t also stay peacefully knowing how Oliver died and I didn’t punish anyone for everything he went through."
Evelyn frowned in confusion wondering what Gianna meant.
But no one really told her.
Gianna started to walk away. She of course tried to follow Gianna. However, just as she did that, she heard the shopkeeper’s shout and then a man was suddenly holding her arm to stop her.
She looked at him in confusion and shouted
"Leave me. My mother is leaving. I need to follow her."
However, what she received in return was a slap.
Her head tilted in Gianna’s direction and she heard the man say to the shopkeeper
"Master, I have a feeling that this slave will need to be tamed."
"Then throw her inside the room. When she will stay starved for a few days, she will be tamed on her own."
The shopkeeper said and the man tried to drag her away. Evelyn raised her head to look at Gianna again but Gianna was far away.
She never looked back.
And Evelyn finally realized.
She had been sold.
She had been sold by the same woman whom she had called Mother for the whole three years.

(At present)
The sun was starting to show itself in the sky.
There was nothing but ear-deafening silence.
Inside Regan’s chambers, except for Evelyn, there were Regan, Rex, and Elias.
The three men didn’t say anything.
Evelyn was standing silently now. She had just finished reminiscing her painful past. Her eyes were filled with tears and she bit her lips. Her fists were clenched as she was stopping herself from crying.
Never had she thought that remembering it again would be so hurtful. She had tried her best to forget everything in the past few years but at night, her nightmares where she would see Oliver’s dead body would never let her forget anything.
In these years, she had almost forgotten that she got remarried Arthur.
But now Arthur was back. Even if she wished, he would never let her forget anything.
Her face start to go pale when she remembered Arthur.
Regan who was silent all this while had been looking at Evelyn all along. When he saw her condition, he immediately stood up and held her trembling body in his arms.
"Evelyn, it’s alright. You are safe now."
He whispered gently and patted her back. At the same time, his eyes went to Rex and Elias indicating them to leave the room.
Elias was shocked to hear anything but soon composed himself.
Rex came out of his trance and lowered his head.
He couldn’t say anything but Regan saw the regret flashing in his eyes. He knew that Rex regretted making Evelyn tell all this.
Fortunately, Rex was considerate enough to leave the chambers now with Elias. But before he left, Evelyn suddenly turned towards him and said
"I have not seen him after that. Your Highness, I didn’t even know if he was alive or dead."
She didn’t know why Rex was so angry after knowing about Arthur but she could see that it must be something important. Evelyn was not a fool.
The way Arthur behaved so confidently in front of Regan before, she was afraid that he was now powerful. More powerful than before.
And that was what scared her more.
