Chapter 150: Gianna Gets To Know The Truth

All the softness vanished from Arthur’s eyes when he saw this. The village chief was also frowning and couldn’t help but say

"Arthur, I don’t think she is in the condition to sign this. Why don’t you come later with your parents?"

However, Arthur didn’t agree with Village Chief. To divert the latter’s attention, he said

"Village Chief, Can I get some water to drink?"

Village Chief nodded his head. There was no one at home except him so he had to go on his own to the kitchen to bring water.

As soon as he left the yard, Arthur held Evelyn’s arm and made her stand. Looking into her eyes blank eyes coldly, he said

"If you don’t put your thumb on this paper now, do you believe me that I won’t even let you attend that lame’s funeral?"

Evelyn’s eyes unconsciously started to fill with tears when she heard him mentioning Oliver. She blinked as she put her thumb in the wet thing Arthur held and then put her thumb on the paper.

She didn’t know what the paper said. She didn’t know what her thumb on the paper would mean. How could she know all this when she didn’t know how to read and write!

Yes, she had signed the same kind of paper with Oliver but her mind at that moment was filled with whatever happened today. Oliver’s dead body kept flashing in front of her eyes. She wished to see him one last time.

She wished to apologize to him that she couldn’t save him, that he died because of her. So when Arthur threatened her, she put her thumb on the paper the next moment.

Arthur was satisfied.

He was so satisfied that he kissed Evelyn’s forehead and looked at the paper in his hands with shining eyes.

Before he had thought of teaching Evelyn to read and write many times but he was suddenly happy today that he didn’t do so.

She was good even if she was illiterate. He could do everything for her in the future. So she doesn’t need to study.

At this moment, the village Chief stepped inside the yard with a glass of water in his hands. Arthur stepped away from Evelyn and showed him the paper as he took the water from his hands with his other hand. Taking a sip from the water, he observed Village Chief’s reaction who was looking at his sign and Evelyn’s thumb.

The village Chief raised his head to look at Evelyn again and again saw her lowered head. He didn’t know how she signed it when she was not signing a few moments ago. But since it was signed, all the procedure was already done.

So he nodded his head and said

"Alright, you two are married now."

It was only then that Evelyn realized what was going on. She suddenly remembered how she had signed the same kind of paper with Oliver. She also remembered Gianna’s words regarding marriage.

But she was not married to Arthur.

So did it mean that she would have to stay with Arthur all her life?"

Evelyn’s body started to tremble again when she thought this. The village Chief couldn’t notice anything as Arthur held Evelyn’s hand and left the house immediately.

On his way back home, he felt Evelyn struggling to make him leave her hand but he held it more tightly and looked at her coldly as he said

"Evelyn, I am your husband now and you are supposed to obey me. Continue to walk like a good girl."

Evelyn’s flinched when his finger caressed her knuckle while saying these words. Tears fell from her eyes to the ground but she couldn’t gather her courage again to struggle.

Like this, they reached the house.

Making her stand in the yard, Arthur raised her chin and looked at her. Seeing her red eyes, he felt guilty and said

"I don’t wish to make you suffer, Evelyn. Why can’t you see how much I am doing for you? Don’t worry. You will start to see my love for you soon. But first, we need to leave from here. I will take you away to somewhere where no one would be able to harm you."

After finishing these words, he said strictly

"Stay here. I will be back in a moment."

No one in the family knew but Arthur had done many things in the past few years. He would do any work he would get and then earn some money. In these past few years, he had gathered a huge amount that was sufficient for him to leave this house and start a new life together with Evelyn.

He had gone back to his room to take the same money with him and then leave with Evelyn.

However, when he stepped outside in the yard his eyes went cold because he didn’t find Evelyn anywhere.

Arthur immediately looked outside the house and didn’t find Evelyn anywhere. He had left only for a few moments. If she was not outside the house then it meant...

Arthur’s eyes went cold and he ran inside the house.

Sure enough, he saw Evelyn holding Gianna’s hand as she was speaking something. But she stopped as soon as he stepped inside the house.

Her face went pale seeing him.

But Gianna who also noticed him had cold and merciless eyes as she stared at him.

Arthur understood everything.

Evelyn had told Gianna something but he didn’t know how much she had said.

"Mother..."

He whispered as he stepped forward but before he could finish, Gianna threw the vase placed on the table towards him.

The vase hit his forehead and his forehead started bleeding instantly. Arthur hissed sharply but he didn’t have the time to compose himself when a wooden stick hit his legs.

Gianna hit him again and dragged him to his room.

Evelyn’s eyes widened when she heard the sound of the room being locked from the inside. She shivered when she heard Arthur’s muffled shouts.

Before she could even think of anything, Gianna threw the wooden stick, held her hand, and dragged her out of the house.
