Chapter 145: The Last Stroke
The next day, Oliver went to the library again and since Gianna and Cooper were not at home since the morning, Evelyn was more scared.
In the end, after Oliver left the house, she went to the room she used to stay in previously and locked the door from the inside.
She didn’t know if Arthur went to school or not but she didn’t step out to check. But she received her answer when the door of her room was knocked loudly.
It was still morning which meant that he didn’t go to school.
She flinched when he knocked her again that too quite loudly.
"Evelyn, are you inside?"
Evelyn didn’t give him any answer. She just continued to shrink herself into a ball in the corner of the room. She was afraid that he would break the lock of this door like that other day.
"Evelyn, I know you are inside."
Arthur’s voice was full of certainty when he said these words and he stopped knocking on the door.
"Open the door, Evelyn. Why will you lock the door from the inside?"
Evelyn still didn’t say anything. However, Arthur continued to speak. Even though his voice was calm and gentle, Evelyn found it very scary. His each and every word seemed to fill her heart with fear.
"I scared you yesterday, right? It’s my fault. But what can I do? You are so beautiful, Evelyn."
Evelyn frowned and her face wrinkled to have a disgusted expression on her face. Even his praises sounded so disgusting. She clutched her legs tightly and her forehead started to cover with sweat.
"Won’t you forgive me, Evelyn?"
Arthur asked again but when he didn’t receive any response he went silent.
For a long time, Evelyn didn’t hear him say anything. She sighed in relief. Almost an hour passed and Evelyn could see from the barred window of the room that it was afternoon now.
Her stomach growled in hunger.
Should she go to the kitchen and cook something? She wondered silently.
However, as more time passed, her hunger increased. In the end, she thought that Arthur might not be at home as he had not knocked on the door for so long and she didn’t hear any movement from outside as well.
Thinking this, Evelyn dared to walk towards the door and open it slightly.
She peeked outside and didn’t see anyone. After observing for a few moments, she opened the door wide and ran towards the kitchen.
Seeing that no one was in the kitchen, she started to cut veggies to cook something. As time passed, she lowered her guard thinking that Arthur was indeed not at home.
Her body relaxed and she cut the veggies carefully.
However, she didn’t get to know when a figure entered the kitchen. It was only when a pair of arms held her waist that Evelyn’s body stiffened and she instantly turned around with the knife in her hand.
Without thinking anything, she used it on the hands that were holding her waist.
Blood dripped to the ground and Arthur hissed sharply as he held his hand. Evelyn was shocked to see this scene.
However, she didn’t step near him to look at the wound and tried to maintain her distance as much as possible.
Arthur raised his head when he noticed this and looked at her with a smile. The blood was still dripping to the ground from his wounded hand but there was nothing in his expression which could express the pain he was feeling because of the wound.
His smile didn’t held any humour when he stared at Evelyn and said
"This is not what you did when you were hugging that lame ...quite tightly, Evelyn."
Evelyn’s face went pale and she unconsciously put the knife in the front. Arthur stared at the knife and then into her eyes fear filled eyes and smiled more coldly.
After a few moments, he left the kitchen and Evelyn fell down to the floor relieved but at the same time crying in fear.

When Oliver returned that evening, he noticed that Evelyn was as silent as the day before.
"Are you still thinking about the nightmare?"
He asked gently as he put the meal on her plate. Evelyn who was lost looked at him and shook her head.
"Then, what are you thinking?"
Oliver asked again and Evelyn only asked him.
"When would Mother and Father return?"
When Oliver heard this, he sighed. So it seems that she was missing them. He smiled.
He always liked how much Evelyn was attached to his mother and father. But he also didn’t like to see her upset. However, here he couldn’t do anything.
"They would be back soon."
He said and Evelyn could only nod her head.
The next few days passed silently. Evelyn was relieved when Arthur didn’t try to approach her anymore or it was because she tried her best to stay away from him. She didn’t know why it was so but she was relieved.
Early morning she would prepare her breakfast and lunch together and take it inside the room where she would stay until Oliver would return.
Almost a week passed like this.
The day after tomorrow, Oliver had to leave for the city where he would give Royal Entrance Examination. It was what scared Evelyn very much because then for almost three days even Oliver would not be at home.
"Can you try to return soon?"
She could only ask Oliver this question while packing his clothes.
Oliver felt guilty to leave her here alone. Father and Mother were not at home and she had been missing them and now he was also leaving.
But he had to put the stone on his chest and say
"Don’t worry, Evelyn. I am sure Father and Mother would be back soon...and when I will be back, I would bring many things for you."
However, Evelyn’s face still looked pale.
Oliver frowned. Evelyn was like for more than a week and he couldn’t see it any longer. In the end, he held her hand and said
"Let’s go and play on the roof."
"Now? But I need to pack your clothes."
Evelyn said in a low voice. However, Oliver continued to walk with the help of his crutches and said
"I will do it later. Let’s play now."
He hoped that playing for some time would make her feel less lonely.
