Chapter 140: The Increasing Obsession
Oliver looked conflicted upon hearing his mother’s words.
As if he didn’t know if he should listen to her or not. In the end, when Gianna asked him whether he didn’t believe her, he had to say that he believed his mother unwilling to hurt her sentiments.
Hence, Gianna took her son out of the room.
When they stepped out of the room, they didn’t see Arthur who had been standing there for some time before. It was only after they had left that Arthur entered the room.
In his hands, he had a handkerchief and a bowl of cold water. With these things, he sat down on Evelyn’s bed and put the cold water-soaked cloth on her forehead.
As he did this, he couldn’t help but stare at her pale face.
A smile graced his lips as he caressed her lips and whispered
"My Evelyn is very timid. Did this scare you so much that you are having a fever? I will have to be careful in the future then."
Though his care was heart-touching, the words and emotions in his eyes were nothing but scary.
Gianna first prepared breakfast for her husband and children.
After having breakfast, she accompanied Oliver to his room. On the way, she couldn’t help but say
"Don’t worry about her. You need to focus on your studies. Go to the library. Mother will take care of Evelyn."
Oliver was actually unwilling to leave Evelyn in such a condition. But he had to nod his head. He knew his parents’ hope regarding his studies.
And Oliver himself wished that he would be able to get a nice job after completing his studies. After all, he wished to become as good as he could for Evelyn.
When the mother and son entered the room while talking to each other, they both feel silent seeing the scene inside the room.
It was Gianna who first came out of her trance and walked to the bed as she said rudely
"You...what are you doing here?"
Arthur didn’t even raise his head as he soaked the cloth in cold water again and put it on Evelyn’s forehead.
"She is sick."
He said only these words to his mother when he raised his head to look at her finally.
Gianna was frowning deeply.
She suddenly held Arthur’s arm and dragged him out of the room. Arthur tried to struggle but Gianna’s hold was firm on him.
Once outside the room, Gianna blocked the door of the room and said to Arthur
"Arthur, I will be saying this once and you will understand. This is now your brother and his wife’s room. You can’t just enter like this. If Evelyn is sick, her husband is there to take care of her."
Gianna had actually never liked Evelyn’s closeness to her youngest son. However, Oliver had said to her that it was good because Arthur didn’t talk much with others in their family.
So she had not said anything.
But now seeing this scene today, she couldn’t stay silent. Her eyes staring at Arthur were filled with complex emotions.
Arthur stared at her back. No one could notice except Oliver how Arthur’s hands were clenched tightly to form fists.
Oliver’s lips were pressed in a thin line.
He suddenly held his mother’s arm and said
"Mother, go and take care of Evelyn. I will talk to Arthur."
Gianna also didn’t want to talk to Arthur seeing his cold and indifferent gaze. Sometimes, Arthur’s eyes made her feel very uncomfortable...as if whatever she said, it had no effect on him.
It made her feel angry as well. According to her, she was his mother so he was supposed to listen to her.
However, she was in no mood of scolding him. So she listened to Oliver and went inside the room.
Now Oliver and Arthur were alone outside.
Both brothers stared at each other.
"Mother was right, Arthur. You should stay away from Evelyn now."
Oliver said suddenly.
However, in response to his words, Arthur merely smiled coldly and said
"If you want that, then work hard. Let’s see who will win."
In the end, it will be him only who will win. Evelyn was his and no one else.
Then he walked out of the house.
Oliver frowned deeply as he looked at his back. He didn’t have any good feelings about whatever was going on.

.
Even if Gianna was unwilling to call a physician for Evelyn, she took care of Evelyn the best she could. The whole morning till afternoon, she continued to put a cold cloth on Evelyn’s forehead.
By the afternoon when it was time to make lunch, Gianna sighed in relief when she felt that the fever had come down.
It was then she exited Oliver’s room and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
When Gianna was preparing the lunch, Oliver and Arthur also returned from school. As soon as he entered the house, Oliver walked toward his room.
Arthur followed him but when he was about to enter, Oliver closed the door of his room.
Arthur stared at the door coldly.
On the other hand, inside the room, Oliver walked to the bed and put his hand on Evelyn’s forehead.
He sighed in relief realizing that her fever was low now.
Oliver heard his mother shout who was calling him for lunch and had to leave the room.
When he stepped outside the room, he didn’t see Arthur there anymore.
Relieved, Oliver went to the dining room. However, as soon as he left the living room, Arthur stepped inside his room and walked to Evelyn’s bed.
He sat on the bed and touched Evelyn’s forehead.
Feeling that her fever was low, he didn’t take his hand back but instead started to touch her face.
"They won’t even call a physician for you, Evelyn...are not we both the same?"
Arthur smiled which didn’t have any humor as he said these words.
"He doesn’t deserve you, Evelyn. It is me who deserves you. I can do anything for you...and I will show it to you."
Arthur stayed for a few moments before he finally left the room.
And just after he left the room, Evelyn opened her eyes.
Her green eyes didn’t have anything but fear and she was breathing heavily.
What will he do now?!
