Chapter 139: Evelyn Is Sick
Chapter 139: Evelyn Is Sick
Evelyn couldn’t sleep for the whole night. It was only in the early morning that she found some sleep. When Oliver woke up, he was surprised to see that she was not awake already.
Usually, Evelyn would wake up before him and by the time he would wake up, she would not be even present in his room.
However, he decided not to wake her up. It was rare for Evelyn to sleep for some extra time.
Inside the kitchen, Gianna was also looking toward the door continuously. She was actually waiting for Evelyn. She frowned when Evelyn didn’t enter the kitchen for a long time.
In the past few years, she had gotten used to of Evelyn so much that now even if she tried she couldn’t handle the house chores on her own.
Sometimes, Evelyn was more faster than her. Hence, Gianna knew that if she would need to do all these chores alone then her children and her husband might get late for their work.
Thinking this, she took out a minute from her busy work and then went to her eldest son’s room. She was about to open the door when Oliver who had just entered the living room after taking a bath saw his mother.
"Mother..."
Seeing her son walking towards her, Gianna smiled regardless of how anxious she was to complete her work.
"Oliver, where is Evelyn?"
"She is asleep."
Oliver answered his mother and Gianna frowned as she took the towel from her son’s hands. She could see that he was having difficulty with holding the towel in his hand which he had used to wipe his hair and at the same time walking using his wooden sticks.
"Still asleep?"
She whispered with a deep frown on her forehead. Oliver saw that his mother’s face didn’t look good and stopped smiling.
"Is there something wrong, Mother?"
Seeing her son’s expression, Gianna forced a smile on her lips and said
"Nothing. I just needed some help in the kitchen. You know how much work there is in the kitchen ...and these days I have pain in my back so it becomes difficult to do everything alone."
Oliver was concerned as soon as he heard this. Hence, the next moment he said
"Mother, don’t worry. I will go and wake up Evelyn."
Gianna smiled sincerely when she heard this and saw her son going inside her room. She then turned around to go back to the kitchen thinking that Evelyn would soon be there.
However, as soon as she turned around she saw Arthur standing behind her and looking at her coldly.
For a moment, Gianna almost screamed in fright.
But then she stepped back and looked at her youngest son with almost a black face.
"Have you lost your mind? Why are you standing so closely?"
She spoke in a very rude voice. Arthur, however, only stared at her coldly for a few moments before he left the living room.
Gianna continued to frown as she looked at his back.
These days, he had started to behave more and more weirdly. However, she didn’t have the time to bother about him.
So she went to the kitchen.
On the other hand, inside his room, Oliver walked to Evelyn’s bed to wake her up. However, he frowned when he noticed that her face was very pale. He suddenly touched her forehead and his eyes widened when he realized that she was having a very high fever.
"Evelyn..."
He called out gently as he patted her cheek but she was not waking up at all.
Oliver was panicked and worried. He held his crutches and somehow walked to the kitchen at the fastest speed he could.
"Mother, Evelyn has a fever. Her body is burning."
Gianna was worried when she had seen her son so panicked. But when she heard his words, she calmed down.
Breathing a sigh of relief that nothing was wrong with her son, she walked with him to his room to first check on Evelyn.
Arthur had just entered the room and looked at them with a frown when he saw how they were entering the room at such a fast pace.
He didn’t leave, instead stood outside Oliver’s room from where he could hear everything they were saying inside the room.
Indeed, Evelyn’s body was burning with fever.
"Mother, I will tell Father and ask him to bring the physician."
Gianna’s eyes widened when she heard this. She immediately held her son’s hand and said immediately
"There is no need to do that."
Gianna didn’t want that a physician would come to see Evelyn. A physician would cost them a very generous amount. Her children were unaware but sending Oliver to study further after he would clear the Royal Entrance examination would cost a lot.
She and her husband were saving all the money they could for that.
In fact, a few days ago she had even suggested to Cooper that they should let their youngest son leave the school. He could always continue his studies once Oliver would get some nice job. However, Cooper didn’t find it right.
Still, Gianna had decided to talk about this matter to her husband every day until he would agree. After all, she was very good at manipulating others.
Oliver was still confused as to why his mother stopped him and asked
"Mother, why?"
Gianna came out of her thoughts and was silent for a moment before she said
"I will take care of Evelyn. It is just a normal fever. There is no need to call a physician. You and Arthur had caught a fever so many times in childhood. It is I who took care of both of you...not a physician."
It was obviously a lie. Arthur rarely fell ill. And when he did, Gianna wouldn’t call a physician for him.
Yes, she would take care of him but if he continued to stay sick, it would be Cooper in the end who would take his son to the physician.
However, for Oliver, she had called the physician many times. She had been always been biased towards her eldest son.
