Chapter 138: Evelyn Is Scared Of Arthur

Inside the house, Oliver was the first person to hear Evelyn’s scream since his room was closer to the yard.

However, because of his legs, he was not the first one to reach Evelyn. It was Gianna and Cooper who reached Evelyn first.

The husband and wife had just gone to sleep when they had heard Evelyn’s scream so they came running fearing that something happened to Oliver.

Both of them knew that the scream came from the yard so they went there.

However, when they reached the yard they saw Evelyn sitting in front of the small house brought by Oliver for the dog and crying.

"Evelyn..."

Gianna called out as she walked to her and then squatted down near her. It was only then she realized what had made her scream.

The small puppy brought by Oliver was now lying unconscious inside the hut. Blood had completely covered the small house. What was more frightening was that his body was divided into two parts.

Someone had killed him very mercilessly.

Even she couldn’t look at this scene for more than a moment. She looked at Evelyn’s pale face and covered her eyes.

"Evelyn, are you alright?... Mother, what happened?"

Oliver who finally reached the yard asked his mother when Evelyn didn’t give him any reply as he walked closer to them.

He frowned in confusion when he saw his mother holding Evelyn’s arm with one hand and covering her eyes with the other. The next moment, he looked behind them and frowned in disgust at what he saw.

He looked away immediately.

Evelyn threw away Gianna’s hand and went to Oliver. Her hand held his waist as she cried.

"Oliver, the puppy di..ed... Oliver, it must be painful for him..."

Evelyn was crying very badly. She sobbed and hiccupped while tears continued to fall down from her eyes.

Oliver’s heart ached and he patted her back as he said

"Don’t cry. I will bring another for you."

However, Evelyn shook her head and said

"No...No Oliver, Don’t bring it for me. I can’t take care of him. He died because of me."

Oliver didn’t want Evelyn to blame herself but first, he wanted her to stop crying. However, regardless of what he said she continued crying. In the end, it was Gianna who stepped forward and took Evelyn away from there.

"It must be someone mischievous from the neighborhood who did that."

Oliver heard his father say but he stayed silent.

His eyes went to the doors when he heard them being opened. Arthur stepped inside and stared at Oliver.

Oliver frowned when he suddenly smiled.

However, Arthur didn’t give him much time to understand the meaning behind his smile because he soon walked inside the house.

But Oliver continued to look at his back until he disappeared from his sigh.

Why did he not seem to believe his father at all?

.

Though Evelyn stopped crying after Gianna talked to her for some time, she couldn’t sleep well. She continued to move here and there while lying on her bed.

Whenever she closed her eyes, she could see that dead puppy in front of her.

Evelyn suddenly sat up on the bed. She was breathing heavily and her forehead was covered with sweat. With fear-filled eyes, she looked toward Oliver.

She wanted to wake him up and talk to him. Oliver would always do something to solve her problem. However, she remembered that Gianna had told her that she couldn’t disturb Oliver’s sleep.

Oliver studied for the whole day because his exam was in a few days.

Hence, Evelyn didn’t dare to disturb Oliver.

She climbed down from the bed, opened the door of her room, and walked to the kitchen. She remembered that Oliver had told her once when she saw a nightmare that she should scroll outside or drink water whenever she felt afraid.

Evelyn didn’t go outside in the yard to scroll fearing that she would see the same small hut. She just sat in the living room for some time. After that, she went to the kitchen to drink some water.

Evelyn drank the water from the glass and turned around. However, she almost scream when she saw a figure in front of her.

But before she could scream, a hand suddenly covered her mouth.

Evelyn sighed in relief when she saw that it was Arthur. Arthur also left her mouth but stood closer to her.

"Brother, why did you scare me like that?"

Evelyn frowned when she asked.

Arthur however stared at her silently.

Seeing this, Evelyn looked at him and opened her mouth to speak again

"Br..."

But before she could finish, Arthur stepped closer to her and looked into her eyes as he said coldly

"Don’t call me brother again."

"Huh?"

Evelyn whispered in confusion. She was actually scared by the way Arthur stared at her. It reminded her of the night when he was heaving weirdly. After that, she rarely talked to him. Today was only an exception where she forgot about that night because of her happiness.

However, Arthur’s same behavior reminded her of that night again.

She stepped back and tried to say calmly

"I should go and sleep."

However, when she was about to pass by him, Arthur suddenly grabbed her by her arm and then said coldly

"Evelyn, don’t ever smile at someone else...except for me."

Evelyn remembered that he had said the same words that night. She frowned as he tried to make him leave her arm but Arthur held it tightly.

"Otherwise they will suffer the same fate as your small puppy."

Evelyn’s eyes widened when she heard his words.

Her face went pale and she suddenly threw his arm away with her whole strength and then ran back to the room.

Once inside the room, she closed the door and breathed heavily.

Her eyes were wide as she leaned against it.

So was it Arthur who killed the puppy?

How could he be so merciless?
