Chapter 137: Evelyn Marries Oliver

For the next few days, Gianna would only talk about Oliver and Evelyn’s marriage at the dining table. Oliver would smile seeing his mother so happy but his eyes would sometimes stay on Arthur as if observing his reaction.

However, when he would find Arthur staring at Evelyn with his cold and emotionless eyes, Oliver’s heart would start to sink slightly.

It was this that made Oliver more confident in marrying Evelyn earlier.

Perhaps it would end Arthur’s thoughts about Evelyn.

Arthur himself had thought so.

He tried his best to stay away from Evelyn. Even when the day came when his mother and father went out with Oliver and Evelyn to get the marriage certificate, he stayed at home alone.

However, alone at home, he continued to hope that Evelyn would suddenly refuse...that Oliver would realize that he was wrong in marrying Evelyn.

That something would happen on the way and they won’t be able to marry each other. However, regardless of what he wished to happen, Oliver and Evelyn returned with Cooper and Gianna and the four of them looked happy.

Arthur didn’t go out but he heard their sounds from his room.

His eyes went red when he heard Gianna say

"I will put a separate bed inside Oliver’s room in a few days then Evelyn can stay in Oliver’s room. But Evelyn you can’t disturb his studies."

Gianna’s expression was very serious when she said this so Evelyn immediately nodded her head. She had been told by Gianna many times that Oliver’s study was very important so she would never disturb him when he was studying.

Gianna and Cooper were relieved to see that she understood.

Since it was a happy day, Gianna made a huge feast. However, Arthur didn’t come out of his room for dinner.

Gianna didn’t care but Cooper went once only to be told by his son that he was not hungry. Oliver was in a daze when he heard his father’s words. After dinner, while returning to his room, his feet stopped in front of Arthur’s room but after a few moments, he decided not to go inside.

It would be fine if his brother stayed away from Evelyn from now on. Thought Oliver and returned to his room.

After this, no one really bothered Arthur.

When they were inside their room, Oliver hugged Evelyn and kissed her forehead. He knew that they couldn’t do anything more than this but she was his bride. He could at least let her have a good memory.

Cupping her face, he smiled gently and said

"Evelyn, I want you to live a very long life...even if I am not there. I wish you would stay happy."

Oliver had always been slightly skeptical about their age gap. If they lived normally, then there was a high chance that he would die before Evelyn but he wished that she would not be alone after him.

Staring into her green eyes, he continued

"You would live a long life, right? Promise me."

Evelyn nodded her head and smiled.

For the next few days, Gianna started to help Evelyn in adjusting to the new phase of life. She started to transfer some of Oliver’s work she used to do to Evelyn.

Now it was Evelyn who cleaned Oliver’s room after he left for school. She would even wash his clothes sometimes.

When Oliver found this out, he was actually distressed and asked Evelyn to leave them. He could wash his own clothes.

However, Evelyn refused him. She had been told by Gianna as Oliver’s wife, it was her responsibility to do all this.

Hence, Oliver could only give up.

However, since they were staying in the same room now, Oliver got to talk to Evelyn more. He would ask her how she spent her day.

After a few days, Oliver realized that Evelyn spent all her time in doing house chores.

"Don’t you find it boring?"

He couldn’t help but ask. Sometimes, even he would find it boring if he continued to read the books every day.

So he would take small breaks sometimes.

Evelyn went silent and then she whispered

"Sometimes...but then I would find something else to do."

However, Evelyn’s something else also included only house chores. These days she was learning how to sew clothes from Gianna.

Oliver’s heart ached for her.

He thought for a long time before he decided to bring something for Evelyn.

"It is so cute..."

Evelyn stared at the puppy in her hands and smiled brightly.

"You like it?"

Oliver asked with a gentle smile on his face and stroked Evelyn’s hair. Evelyn raised her head and grinned at him widely as she nodded her head.

"Good then. You can play with it."

Oliver was happy to see Evelyn happy.

Evelyn who was holding the small puppy suddenly noticed Arthur standing at the other end of the living room. She saw that he staring at her hands.

She thought that he also liked puppies and wanted to touch the puppy in her hands.

Hence, Evelyn smiled and walked to Arthur. When Oliver saw this, the smile from his lips faded but he didn’t say anything.

"Arthur, Look at this! Oliver brought me a puppy."

Gianna had just entered the living room and frowned when she heard Evelyn’s words. A moment later, she suddenly said

"Evelyn, you should call Arthur Brother now."

Evelyn turned her head to look at Gianna. Her green eyes were filled with confusion. She called Oliver by his name. It was something that Gianna had told her so she called Arthur also by his name.

But today Gianna was asking him to call Arthur Brother. But Evelyn nodded her head and then asked

"Then Mother should I call Oliver also Brother?"

Oliver felt helpless. Although he liked his mother’s words, he felt slightly upset that Evelyn couldn’t know about many things because of her younger age.

Gianna immediately shook her head and then took herself with her.

When Evelyn returned with the puppy, she obediently called Arthur Brother.

"Brother, look at this. Isn’t it beautiful?"

However, Arthur didn’t even touch the puppy and left the house without saying anything. Oliver who stood there looked at his back with a serious expression on his face and heard Evelyn say

"Ah, why did he leave like that?"

"He must be busy."

Oliver said to Evelyn who accepted his words.

Since it was about to be dinner time, Evelyn put the puppy inside the small hut brought by Oliver which was kept in the small yard outside the house. Then she returned to the kitchen to help Gianna with dinner.

However, after dinner when Evelyn went to play with the puppy again, she was shocked to see what she saw in front of her eyes.

A scream of fright unconsciously escaped her mouth.
