Chapter 136: Oliver Doesn’t Want To Let Go Of Evelyn
"Do you think that you are the only one who can give her all this?"
Oliver stiffened suddenly.
His eyes widened slightly as he looked at his younger brother carefully.
In the past three years, he had been surprised when he had suddenly seen his cold and silent brother different behavior towards Evelyn.
However, at that moment he suddenly got the answers to his questions.
It was at that moment, Oliver realized why Arthur didn’t want him to marry Evelyn.
It was not because of his disabled legs. It was also not because of Evelyn was very young.
It was completely something else...something that shouldn’t have happened at all.
Oliver had always been conceding to his younger brother. He had always blamed himself for Arthur’s cold and silent behaviour. He felt that it was because of him that Arthur didn’t get the same love from their mother and father that he should have received.
But for the first time, he didn’t wish to be the one who concede.
"I will marry Evelyn. You don’t need to marry her."
He said calmly though his heart was fast beating inside his chest. Things had turned out completely unexpected for Oliver.
For a moment, he actually thought if he should...However, he couldn’t even complete the words inside his heart.
Let go of Evelyn...even if she only eight. He liked her very much. He could wait for Evelyn to love him, he could work hard to complete all her needs but he couldn’t let go of her...at least not without trying.
And Arthur...he would never be able to keep Evelyn happy.
That was what Oliver thought.
Arthur was too cold, too emotionless, and too silent WHILE Evelyn was bright, lively and cheerful. Arthur’s coldness would drown her cheerfulness.
That was what Oliver thought.
Arthur’s body shook in rage as he stared at Oliver. His eyes went to Oliver’s legs and they were filled with disgust.
Oliver didn’t show it but he was actually hurt by that gaze. He didn’t mind what other thought but Arthur was his own younger brother.
"You are a selfish bastard, Oliver."
Arthur said coldly before he left the room.
Oliver stood there slightly stunned by his words. It took him a long time to gain his composure but when he did, he left his room and walked to Evelyn’s room.
He knocked on the door gently.
Evelyn opened the doors and smiled brightly when she saw Oliver.
"Oliver, did you invent some new game for me? Let’s play."
The depressed feeling in Oliver’s heart vanished instantly when he saw Evelyn’s bright smile. He smiled as he shook his head and said
"I wanted to talk to you about something."
Evelyn pouted but nodded her head. These days, everyone seemed to have something to talk to her. She pulled the door open widely so that Oliver could enter and Oliver walked to the bed.
Looking at the small room, Oliver frowned.
It was fine when Evelyn was young but now it seemed to be too small. However, he couldn’t blame his mother as well. This was the only room vacant when Evelyn had come so they gave this to her.
However, after their marriage, perhaps he could move her to his room. His room was big. He could ask his mother to arrange a separate bed for her inside his room.
Thinking this, Oliver remembered what he had come here for. He shook his head and looked at Evelyn who was waiting for him to speak.
"Evelyn, did Mother tell you about our marriage?"
Evelyn immediately nodded her head and Oliver felt amused seeing her eyes wide and her face serious.
"What did she say?"
"Mother said that if we marry, we will stay with each other forever. I will be the closest person to Oliver."
Evelyn smiled widely when she said this and Oliver felt something stirring inside his heart.
"She said right."
He whispered and then lowered his head.
Arthur’s words flashed in his mind.
Was he selfish? Oliver felt uncomfortable when he thought this. He couldn’t help but ask
"Evelyn, do you agree?"
"Yes."
Evelyn nodded her head seriously when she heard Oliver’s question but she frowned when she heard his question.
"Don’t you mind my legs? I can’t walk without sticks. Don’t you mind if you would have to spend your whole life with me?"
Oliver could only ask such questions to Evelyn. She was too young to know everything. But he was trying to find some comfort in her innocent answers.
Evelyn was still frowning. She actually found it very hard to answer Oliver’s question. Suddenly, her eyes lit up and she asked Oliver
"Did you mind it when I had chickenpox?"
Oliver was startled by such a question. He remembered how two years ago Evelyn had suddenly chickenpox when she had just returned from outside after buying some clothes with his mother.
At that time, her whole face was filled with pimples and she had high fever. It was after that that she refused to go out fearing that she would get such a disease again.
He never knew that it was again Gianna who filled such a fear in Evelyn’s mind so that the girl would not want to step out of the house.
"No"
Oliver refused when he saw that Evelyn was waiting for his answer.
Evelyn smiled and then answered the question he had asked from her.
"Then why would I mind Oliver’s legs? Oliver is nice to me. I also want to be nice to Oliver."
Oliver couldn’t stop himself and suddenly dragged the girl in his arms. He hugged her tightly. His eyes were slightly red and he closed them fearing that she would notice.
Amidst the silence of the room, Evelyn heard him whisper
"Evelyn, if you mind my legs in the future....then just leave me without even telling me."
Evelyn frowned when she heard his words.
But she still patted his back like an adult and said
"I won’t leave Oliver. Oliver is my only friend."
Oliver smiled slightly on hearing her...unaware that Arthur was hearing everything standing outside the room.
