Chapter 121: The Past(2)

Evelyn was silent when she heard the woman mention her mother.

Her mother and her father...she didn’t have any memory of them. However, the blacksmith uncle to whom she usually goes to bring new utensils for the kitchen told her that her parents were very good people.

Her father was a very brave man and would always stand to protect his tribe’s people. And her mother would always be there for her father and her tribe.

Sometimes the blacksmith would even say that her parents’ death was very sudden.

Sometimes she would wonder if her parents were still alive, would her life be different or would her mother also not allow her to play?

Would her father have picked her in his arms every day and then given her something sweet to eat as her uncle did to her cousins?

Little Evelyn would feel very sad when she would think this and that was what happened at that moment exactly.

The woman was confused when she saw that Evelyn was not giving any reply but then she thought that perhaps the girl was shy.

She was about to ask Evelyn again when Evelyn’s Aunt who had been sleeping inside her room suddenly came into the yard and looked at the man and woman standing in the yard.

"Who might you two people be? And you girl, are you inviting just anyone inside the house? Do you not remember the last punishment you received?"

Evelyn was very scared when she heard her Aunt because she thought that she would be starved today as well.

Her eyes started to fill with tears unconsciously and her lips formed a pout.

The woman who was holding her saw this and frowned as she looked at Evelyn’s Aunt.

Still, she put a forced smile on her lips and said

"May, Have I been gone for so long that you don’t recognize me any longer?"

Evelyn’s Aunt, May was surprised to realize that the woman knew her name. She looked at the woman’s face carefully for a few moments and then suddenly shouted.

"Oh Gianna, is it you I am seeing?"

May looked shocked as she held her chin and looked at Gianna’s beautiful face.

When Gianna had left the tribe back then she looked like one of them.

However, the woman standing in front of her was quite beautiful and wore very nice clothes. Even the way she stood seemed to scream manners of a town woman.

"Yes, it’s me."

Gianna smiled slightly and put Evelyn back on her feet before she walked to May and asked

"Where is Layla? I have come to meet my friend."

While talking about Layla, Gianna had a very sincere and eager smile on her lips. They have been very good friends in the past. However, years ago she suddenly had to leave the tribe as she was not left with any source of livelihood in the tribe. Before leaving, Gianna had sold some part of her land and kept another part in Layla and her husband’s care.

After that, she had come here once again four years ago to sell her leftover land. That was when she met Layla and had seen Evelyn for the first time. Since May had not met Gianna at that time, she was very shocked to see the changed Gianna in front of her so suddenly today.

May sighed sadly when she heard Gianna talking about Layla and said

"Gianna, my younger sister-in-law left this world four years ago along with her husband, Silas."

When she said this, May pretended to wipe her eyes from the corner of her dress as if she was feeling very sad while talking about Layla and her husband.

Evelyn watched her hand silently. She knew very well that her Aunt was not upset even a bit however what made her confused was why her Aunt was pretending to be upset.

On the other hand, Gianna was shocked when she heard May.

"What are you saying?! Layla...four years ago...I came and met her."

Gianna was very shocked. The man who had been standing silently in the yard stepped forward and held her to comfort her.

It took Gianna a few moments to compose herself.

Though her face was still pale, there was suddenly something else flickering in her eyes as she suddenly looked at Evelyn.

May however didn’t let that happen for too long. She dragged Gianna inside her room. She wanted to know how this tanned black woman suddenly became so beautiful.

Evelyn silently looked at her Aunt’s room and then went to the kitchen.

She knew that regardless of what was happening there she was supposed to clean the dishes otherwise she would be starved.

On the other hand inside the room, May made Gianna and her husband sit on the cot and sat in front of them after dragging a chair for herself.

"So where you had been? I didn’t hear any news from you and who is this man?"

May asked Gianna as she looked at the man. The man smiled politely but was still holding his wife’s hand knowing that she was still in shock to know about Layla and Silas’s death.

However, no one knew what exactly was going inside Gianna’s mind.

When she heard May’s question, she came out of her trance and introduced the man seated beside her to May.

"This is my husband, Cooper."

"Ah I see."

May smiled as she greeted Cooper. Cooper did the same however even Gianna could see the envy flashing in May’s eyes.

Cooper looked very healthy and he was a very handsome man. The way Gianna looked after these years did tell enough that she had been living a good life.

So May’s envy aroused from the fact that Gianna had a husband like Cooper.

Gianna ignored what she saw and instead said

"I had come here to meet Layla and Silas. We had made a promise to each other regarding our children’s marriage four years ago after I had seen Evelyn. But now..."

Gianna sighed as she stopped speaking.

May’s eyes flashed when she heard Gianna and she asked with greed filled eyes.

"You have a son."

"I do. I have two sons. I and Layla had arranged my elder son’s marriage with Evelyn."

Gianna smile sadly as if she was remembering that day.

May grinned from ear to ear when she heard this.

Gianna had two sons and she had two daughters. Gianna’s family seemed to be doing very well.

How would it be like if she arranged her two daughter’s marriage with Gianna’s two sons!
