Chapter 128 - 14: Holy Knight vs Holy Knight (2)
Chapter 128: Chapter 14: Holy Knight vs Holy Knight (2)
At noon, the scorching sun blazed down on the earth.
The wind blew, making the flags flutter noisily.
In the north and south, the sentries from the Golden Snake and White Fox camps stood on their wooden towers, yawning as they gazed into the distance.
The whole world seemed quiet, as if everything had become lazy.
Suddenly, from the almost sealed eastern exit of Buck Town, a man on a horse emerged. The man was clad in silver-white armor, and the horse was shrouded in heavy battle gear.
He walked straight along the central line of the street.
Immediately, the sentries from the north and south camps craned their necks, idly watching.
Gray was still in the tent comforting Shelley when Vivian and Catherine almost simultaneously cried out.
"He’s here!"
"Who?"
"The Holy Knight! Or rather, a First Class Angel!"
Gray’s hand, which was caressing Shelley’s head, instantly froze. Shelley looked up, her teary eyes gazing at Gray, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing," Gray said, but still stood up, lifted the curtain, and walked out of the tent.
The eastern exit of Buck Town was guarded jointly by soldiers from both the Golden Snake and White Fox camps. As the man tried to leave from the eastern exit, both sides raised their weapons simultaneously.
The sentries from both camps stretched their necks, watching from afar. Because of the distance, they couldn’t even clearly see what the man’s armor looked like; they only knew it was white. The sentries on both sides were excited, while the man on the horse acted as if nothing was happening, not even drawing his sword.
"Who’s this idiot? Looking for death?"
"Maybe he’s not an idiot. Look at his armor, it seems pretty good."
"What does good armor have to do with being an idiot or not?"
"That’s true."
The sentries mocked from afar.
Just as the eastern exit of the town was about to break into a fight, two more figures arrived, followed by a group of people in white, holding two banners.
The sentries couldn’t make out the people, but they understood the flags. A cross banner edged with Golden Snake, and a cross banner edged with White Fox...
"Are those... the bishops from both sides?" The sentries who had been waiting for a show were stunned.
Gray had already stepped out of the camp, watching from a distance.
Seeing Gray’s unusual actions, people from the camp came out one by one.
Soon, with the intervention of the bishops from both sides, the soldiers guarding the eastern exit of Buck Town removed the barriers. Levi, in his thick armor, rode forward step by step towards the Gray camp.
Everyone watched him, including Lusien V, Prince Arthur, Gene II, and Camilla, who all emerged from their tents.
His armor, silver-white with gold edges, adorned with intricate and elaborate patterns. The golden cross on his chest plate had a large gemstone embedded in it. A white cape hung from his shoulders, with a cross pattern on the clasp. His attire was countless times more impressive than Gray’s. In fact, it was unmatched on the entire Ailuo Peninsula.
"Who is that?" Lusien V asked softly.
"I don’t know," the minister beside him replied in a low voice.
Levi straightened his back, riding forward bit by bit, letting everyone’s gaze fall on him and scrutinize him.
"Find out who he is," Gene II whispered.
"Yes!" The guard beside him took the order and left.
Camilla tightened the silk handkerchief in her hand.
Gray stood on the hillside, looking down at him. Behind him, the Silver Moon Knight Order had already formed ranks, even the dwarfs mimicking the stance for battle.
"Levi," Vivian whispered in Gray’s ear, "A Holy Knight promoted three years ago, the youngest Holy Knight in the entire church. His Guardian Angel is named Julian, a First Class Angel. That’s all I know, the church keeps these Holy Knights well hidden. Besides the clergy, they hardly interact with anyone. Now, it’s your turn, Catherine. Tell me something I don’t know."
Catherine was silent for a moment, then said softly, "I don’t know much about him either. As for Julian... I’ve never had any contact with him; I only know that his magical prowess is considered quite high among First Class Angels. If I’m not mistaken, he should be able to see the entire camp clearly now, except for you. That scroll works only on you."
...
"Oh my God, guess what I saw?"
"What?" Levi asked softly.
Julian replied, "Every horse in the camp is a bone horse disguised with iron armor. Every knight is an undead knight in armor. The dwarfs are nothing special, but I also saw two vampires in armor who can move during the day, a blood elf practicing dark magic, and a succubus. My God... This might be the most diverse Evil Army I’ve ever seen."
"All that’s missing from your earlier guess is a Lich."
"No, there must be a Lich. I have some knowledge of Undead Magic: one hundred undead knights, both men and horse, and they’re all heavy armor knights. This scale of an undead army could never be created by a human practicing Undead Magic."
"This sounds exciting. Has he fallen?"
"Not necessarily. I saw Catherine, and her wings are still white. That means she hasn’t become a Fallen Angel. Also, the two young vampires’ armor looks like our craftsmanship."
"So?"
"So the existence of these dark creatures might have been known and condoned by the higher-ups long ago."
"Condoned?" Levi fell silent. After a long while, he said softly, "I can’t believe it. For a year, the church has been made a mess by this group of dark creatures. Is this what they call a ’different kind of Holy Knight’? Honestly, my faith is shaken."
"Don’t take any action yet; let me talk to Catherine."
"Alright, I’ll listen to you," Levi replied with a smile.
...
*"What should I do?"* Gray asked Catherine.
*"Just pretend nothing’s happened, and I’ll talk to Julian."*
"Alright..."
The wind blew gently.
Soldiers from the Golden Snake and White Fox camps came out of their tents to watch, and even many residents of Buck Town gathered from afar.
Swaying slightly, Levi finally approached Gray, who was standing on the hillside, locking eyes with him while still on horseback.
Although he had only been silent for a moment, to the creatures with an evil nature and self-awareness, it felt like an eternity.
After a brief silence, Levi lifted his visor, smiling at Gray, "Hello, Gray. I am your comrade, Levi. Nice to meet you. May the light of the Holy Spirit be with you. Can I talk to you?"
"What does ’comrade’ mean?" Bat asked in a low voice.
"It means a companion or ally, a fellow soldier. He’s a Holy Knight," Jones replied quietly.
"A Holy Knight!" Bat was shocked, "Weren’t there just five Holy Knights on the entire continent? How come we’ve randomly run into two?"
"Randomly?"
"Isn’t it? We just robbed a place, and we’ve already run into two."
Jones didn’t want to bother with Bat anymore.
"Agree with him and invite him to the tent," Catherine urged in Gray’s ear.
"Hello, Levi. Glad to see you. May the light of the Holy Spirit be with you." Gray stepped back and turned sideways, making a welcoming gesture, "Come, let’s go to my tent."
Levi didn’t move but asked, "Meeting a comrade, you won’t lift your visor and let me see your face?"
Gray froze in place and replied softly, "I don’t have the habit of lifting my visor."
"But I want to see what the leading Holy Knight of the continent, Gray, actually looks like. I heard you like arbitration, so why don’t we have a duel? If I win, you lift your visor and let me be the first to see your face. If you win, I’ll never ask again. If you think the stakes aren’t high enough, I can raise them a bit more."
As he spoke, Levi lowered his head and began removing the armor from his hand.
Removing his glove and throwing it at the opponent was a challenge to a duel in knightly etiquette.
Gray remained unfazed, but Catherine was so frightened that she revealed her true form, hurriedly shouting, "Julian! Stop him!"
On the other side, Julian, behind Levi, also revealed himself.
Like Catherine, he exuded a faint glow, but his white wings were a full size larger. With long silver hair and a face that appeared to be just under twenty years old, his white and gold interwoven chest armor housed a golden broadsword at his waist. His arms bore golden armbands inscribed with intricate text.
In an instant, everyone was stunned. Everyone.
Including Shelley, Andrew, Jones, Dora, Bat, and everyone in the camp, both "people" and "horses." Also, including Lusien V, Gene II, Prince Arthur, and Camilla in the distance, along with all their personnel and the onlookers from Buck Town.
Two angels suddenly appearing and hovering in mid-air, who wouldn’t be amazed?
...
"Is this another Holy Knight?" Lusien V muttered to himself.
...
"Reporting to His Grace, the bishop said that’s Holy Knight Levi!" The soldier, just back from the town, hurriedly reported to Gene II.
"I already know," Gene II replied expressionlessly.
...
Julian spoke softly, "Levi, you are comrades, you’ll have many opportunities to spar in the future. For a first meeting, the atmosphere should be a bit more cordial."
"Fine, I’ll listen to you." Levi casually re-secured the armor he had half-removed.
"There’s one more, won’t you reveal yourself?" Julian asked softly.
"Who is he referring to?" Gray transmitted to Catherine.
"He means me." Before Catherine could answer, Vivian’s voice had already sounded in Gray’s mind.
As soon as she spoke, Vivian’s figure appeared beside Gray.
...
"Hey, did that girl just appear out of thin air?" Gene II asked Andrew beside him.
"I don’t know, I didn’t see clearly. It was too far."
...
Compared to other types of demons, succubi were closer to human. Ordinary people couldn’t usually identify them.
Everyone else was alright, but Shelley was shocked, covering her mouth. She never knew there was such a little girl in their camp.
Smiling, Vivian said to Julian, "Hello, First Class Angel. I am First Class Succubus Vivian. Our ranks are the same, what a coincidence."
"Let’s go, into the tent to chat with him."
"Okay." Levi dismounted and walked into Gray’s camp.
