The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha! -
Chapter 127 - 13: Holy Knight vs Holy Knight
Chapter 127: Chapter 13: Holy Knight vs Holy Knight
Throughout the entire morning, Shelley kept glaring at Gray. Squinting her eyes, her gaze full of suspicion, and pouting, like a vinegar jar.
"What exactly did you say to that woman yesterday?"
"I didn’t say anything."
"You were together for three hours and didn’t say anything?" Shelley bit her lip, about to cry, "You... don’t like me anymore, do you?"
*Gray was flustered, not knowing how to comfort her.*
"You should think about how to get through today..." Black Cat reminded cautiously, "You promised Camilla that she could come by today. Think about how Shelley will react when she sees her?"
"What should I do then?"
"You should refuse her entry."
"But I already promised."
"That’s your problem."
Shelley sat on a chair in the tent, wiping her tears repeatedly, twisting her handkerchief over and over.
*Gray stood dumbfounded on the side. He had never encountered such a situation and didn’t know how to handle it.*
"Perhaps I could help adjust her thoughts," Vivian said softly.
"Adjust her thoughts?"
"Yes, our Demon Clan has the ability to manipulate human minds. I can make her very happy about you interacting with other girls. Of course, her behavior might become a bit strange, but it will be very entertaining!"
"Are you sure this won’t violate the agreement?" Catherine asked.
"If you don’t say anything, who would know I broke the agreement? Besides, this is more like bending the rules, not breaking them!"
"If you dare to do this, I will definitely report you."
"Oh, Gray, did you hear that? Someone doesn’t want me to rescue you from your suffering!"
"You just said strange behavior, what do you mean?" Gray asked.
Suddenly, the two voices in his head went quiet. Gray’s question seemed to have surprised both the angel and demon.
A moment later, Catherine exclaimed, "Gray, do you really want to borrow the power of demons?"
Vivian seemed even more excited, continuing to persuade, "Gray, you’ve finally wised up! Borrowing demon powers isn’t necessarily a bad thing, right? I didn’t ask you to follow the dark beliefs of demons, you’re just borrowing their power. Even if you use demonic powers to carry out your justice, I wouldn’t oppose it. I would even support you!"
"No, I just want to know what you mean by strange behavior?" Gray asked softly.
*Catherine was about to explode.*
Vivian thought for a moment and said, "It’s actually like a surgery. Human consciousness tends to lean a certain way, but at the very beginning, it’s clean and pure. Over time, it morphs into something like a rope. What we see as beliefs, choices, and personality are all representations of this rope. Each point is composite. If we want to change someone’s attitude towards something, the simplest way is to cut out all their negative memories related to that thing. Implanting positive memories is also an option, though very difficult. Because all memories are layered and complex, cutting them out would not only affect the event we’re focused on." *Catherine elaborated further.*
"For instance?"
"For example, someone is afraid of snakes because they were bitten once. By removing their memory of snakes, we can make them no longer afraid. Concurrently, it might reduce their inherent timidness, but it would also make them less cautious and oblivious to dangers... Simply put, it changes their personality."
"Let me translate for you," Catherine said coolly, "Shelley cares about you interacting with other girls because she loves you. It’s essentially possessiveness, an innate trait. To resolve this, we would need to weave memories to diminish her possessiveness, which is extremely difficult, almost impossible. Alternatively, we could remove factors influencing her possessiveness, like her feelings for you, erasing your shared memories. That way you become a stranger, and who cares about a stranger interacting with someone else?"
"Uh..."
"Isn’t that right?"
"I guess so, but can we keep some of the shared memories?"
"Hmm, keeping some, that’s a great idea," Catherine sneered, "The Underworld has never lacked cases of its demon envoys driving people insane with memory modifications that went wrong."
"Those were just occasional mistakes!"
"Only occasional?"
Vivian was silent.
Gray looked at Shelley and, after some thought, replied, "I still like the current Shelley, I don’t want her to change. Our shared memories are important, aren’t they?"
The second day on the Ailuo Peninsula was exceptionally uneventful for the Silver Moon Knight Order.
The Silver Moon Knights continued daydreaming, the dwarves, who rarely had a day off from marching, started thinking about how to get some wine, and Gray was still troubled by Shelley’s jealousy. Jones, Dora, and Andrew continued their wanderings. Tenidas, bored to death, began teaching the Bone Horses to study the Bible.
Yet, just like the eye of a typhoon, the relatively calm Silver Moon Knight Order was at the center of a storm brewing throughout the continent. News of the appearance of Holy Knight Gray on the Ailuo Peninsula had spread like wildfire, everyone was talking about it.
"I knew he wouldn’t retreat to the Beishier Duchy that easily. His reputation is just too high, and his strength too formidable. There’s no way he’d back down because of something as minor as the opposition from the residents of Lion King City."
"Organizing an arbitration on the Ailuo Peninsula without the church’s orders is tantamount to challenging the church’s supreme authority."
"But, what is his true goal? The church still acknowledges him, and he still acknowledges the church. Neither side has declared the other heretical, yet disputes continue. This relationship is extremely delicate."
"Are they finally going to tear each other apart?"
"Maybe we should pick a side between the Holy Knight and the church. Do we need the Holy Knight, or the church?"
"Compared to the formidable Holy Knight, the loosely structured church seems more suitable for us. But are we willing to return to the church’s control? Even though we don’t want to accept an emerging Holy Knight, we must consider his powerful strength, especially the astonishing Silver Moon Knight Order." the various royal families said.
Of course, these conflicted royal families did not include King Isaac Benedict II. After all, he couldn’t even afford the servants of Lion King Palace, let alone spies scattered everywhere. The Lion King City was as blind as a bat to external affairs.
As the royal families shifted their focus to the Ailuo Peninsula, and the Golden Snake and White Fox families busied themselves considering tomorrow’s competition and Gray’s attitude, one person quietly arrived at Buck Town—the flashpoint for this war.
...
The wind blew gently, fluttering the Bert White Fox flag hanging to the north of the town, as well as the Fides Gold Snake flag to the south.
A small town was divided and occupied by two sides. Roadblocks partitioned the busiest street in the middle, with soldiers on both sides glaring at each other.
Due to the bleak situation, the sparsely populated town now had even fewer passersby. Most of the time, there were more soldiers than civilians in the streets.
On the eastern edge, towards the Fides side, a figure was quietly standing on a third-story balcony, looking over the three camps from afar.
Short black hair, handsome face, tall figure, appearing around thirty years old. He wore a white short-sleeved robe commonly seen in the church, with a gold-embroidered cross on his chest.
This attire was typical in the church or any large cathedral in the various countries, but unusual in a small, inconspicuous town like Buck. At this moment, several townsfolk were watching him from a distance. He didn’t seem to mind at all.
Two clergy members appeared behind him, panting heavily, and respectfully saluted, "Holy Knight, we didn’t expect you to arrive so quickly. We just received the Cardinal Court’s message."
"Holy Knight? Is that how you usually address a Holy Knight?" the black-haired man sighed and asked.
"Isn’t it?" Bishop Fides, the older of the two, asked.
"What do you call the other one?" The back of the black-haired man pointed towards Gray’s camp.
"Also... Holy Knight."
"Doesn’t that get confusing?" the black-haired man said, "Call me Levi."
Yes, Levi, among the continent’s five Holy Knights, he was the youngest apart from Gray, whose age was never officially disclosed.
"Alright, Sir Levi."
Taking a deep breath, Levi said softly, "The orders I received are to create communication opportunities for the two Guardian Angels. Apart from that, I must prevent this arbitration from succeeding and ensure that the people of the continent don’t consider Holy Knight Gray’s arbitration authoritative. Your task is to assist me, although I can’t think of how you could. Not disrupting should also count, right."
"Not disrupting?"
"Yes," Levi waved and said, "You can go back now. I’ll call if I need your help."
After hesitating, the two bishops had no choice but to salute, "We obey your orders."
With that, they turned and left the balcony.
Levi was left standing alone, quietly watching Gray’s camp.
Levi muttered to himself, "I usually attend various events in armor with a mask. After all, that’s the standard image of a Holy Knight. But I don’t wear armor all the time, nor do I keep the mask on in front of people. To be clear, his Holy Knight title is sanctioned by the Holy Spirit, I’m not questioning the Holy Spirit’s decision. I just find it... suspicious."
A male voice echoed in his mind, "Before arriving here, I simply considered his refusal to remove his mask as a gimmick. Humans often have a reverence for the unknown. Not removing the mask might effectively direct this reverence, facilitating preaching. But after coming here, like you, I also find it suspicious."
"You find it suspicious too? Why?"
"There are dark creatures in his camp."
"Do you mean those dwarves?"
"No, though dark, dwarves without magic won’t exude darkness. I clearly sense that his camp is filled with dark energy, and powerful dark energy at that."
"This is getting more interesting. What do you think exudes such strong dark energy?"
"I’m not sure. It could be a Blood Elf practicing dark magic, or Blood Clan, even a Lich or Demon. The distance is too great, I need further investigation. I’m curious as to why his Guardian Angel, Catherine, would tolerate dark creatures around him."
"Julian, if dark creatures are indeed around him, can I ignore his Holy Knight status and use your power to attack?"
"Yes," replied Julian, a first-rank Guardian Angel, "I haven’t received any orders forbidding action against the dark creatures around him. Considering all agreements, you might be able to do so."
"Alright then, let’s head to their camp right now," Levi replied softly.
