The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha! -

Chapter 105: Chapter 35: Black and White (2)_2
The hall was silent, except for the roaring voice of Count Gruglu.
In the end, he turned his face to Gray, panting, and said, "I hope you can seriously consider my suggestion."
"But if the decree is not immediately canceled, the problem could very likely continue to escalate. This would mean we would need even more food, and in the end, even if other countries are willing to support us, we would not be able to fill the gap," Gray said softly.
"Then eat less?" Count Gruglu spread his hands, "Eat less, turn three meals a day into two, then into one. As long as we’re not starving to death, isn’t that fine?"
Gray looked at him silently.
Count Gruglu, helpless, had to change his tone, "Alright, maybe some people would starve to death, but maybe not many, right? That’s better than facing this damned predicament, right? Your reputation will be damaged, and you might never restore it. We don’t even need to convince them. We could directly declare war on the Allen Kingdom, on the grounds that they invaded us before. Take all their food, and we would have enough time to resolve everything without directly stopping the decree."
Everyone around stood silently, quietly watching Gray, not saying a word.
Gray’s gaze swept around and finally settled on Shelley.
Shelley quietly raised her hand and said, "I support whatever decision you make."
Looking back at Count Gruglu, Gray said softly, "If I do that, I would be violating the spirit of a knight."
"Is knight’s honor more important than reputation? Isn’t holding to knight’s honor just for the sake of reputation?"
"Not for me," Gray responded straightforwardly.
Count Gruglu was stunned for a moment, unsure of what to say next.
...
A mercenary rode a fast horse to the back door of Pearce Cathedral, raising his hand and throwing a stone tied with a letter into the church, breaking a piece of glass in the process.
As he turned to leave, three Silver Moon Knights were already standing behind him on horseback.
...
A Silver Moon Knight hurried in from outside, said something to Gray, and Gray silently nodded to everyone present and turned to leave.
...
In the small room, the mercenary who delivered the message was already tied to a chair, his mouth gagged.
Gray hurried in, took the crumpled letter from Carl’s hand, opened it, and began reading.
Black Cat and Vivian looked along with him.
"Dear Undead Mage Holy Knight,
Hello.
I am the Blood Elf who entered your fiancée’s room. I suppose you are looking for me now.
Sorry for discovering your little secret. Being a Holy Knight while using undead power is nothing to be proud of. Now, I give you an opportunity for reconciliation. I heard you are about to issue a new decree; I personally suggest you announce to the church your repentance when issuing the decree, welcome back Benedict II, and withdraw from Lion King City. Then, I will temporarily keep your secret. Remember, it’s just temporary. Complete secrecy in the future depends on your performance.
Also, do not harbor any wishful thinking, or it will bring unforeseen consequences.
Sincerely, Great Mage Andrew."
After reading the letter, Black Cat felt a sense of relief: "He thinks you’re... an Undead Mage?"
"Hmm, the young man’s imagination is still not rich enough," Vivian whispered, "However, it’s understandable. Who would think a Holy Knight recognized by both the church and Heaven is actually a Lich? I couldn’t believe it at first myself."
Gray held the letter, quietly looking, thinking.
Black Cat spoke softly, "Gray, I think you should really consider Count Gruglu’s suggestion, really. The situation is very complicated right now; even I can’t explain it. But I think you should really consider Count Gruglu’s suggestion. If you surrender, no one will blame you; after all, the church is also supported by the Holy Spirit. Surrendering to the Holy Spirit isn’t considered abandoning faith, right? No one will say you abandoned your faith. The worst part is they’ve already started to suspect your identity, in case... don’t you remember your pact with the Holy Spirit?"
*For a moment, Gray’s mind flashed with Bob’s innocent face. Holding the letter, he asked softly, "Black Cat, Yilin..."*
"Yilin?"
"Yes, Yilin. Catherine told me Yilin knew that Benedict II had killed his six brothers long ago. She also knew Bob was in the palace stables, constantly in danger. But she said nothing, and did nothing. At first, I didn’t believe it, but later, I found out Catherine was telling the truth."
"So, what are you trying to say?" Black Cat was stunned.
*Gray continued, "This made me realize, my faith is really my own. It is not the faith of the Holy Spirit, nor the faith of the church, but my own. I didn’t bring this up with others, nor did I say it out loud. It’s not that I didn’t notice, nor that I didn’t understand, but just that I found it... too cruel. But I knew it all along."*
Black Cat and Vivian both fell silent.
*"You are right, if I surrender, it wouldn’t be considered abandoning sacred faith. In fact, it would fulfill some people’s idea of sacred faith. But you and I both know, that sacred faith is not the sacred faith in my heart. My faith is only upheld by me, if I give it up, it will cease to exist. If I give up, in the future, who will stand up for the weak?"*
*"I hope more people will join me in upholding it, rather than me abandoning it. Things are not complicated at all; it’s just a matter of choosing two out of three between the lives of the residents of Lion King City, my own reputation, and justice. Of these, my reputation is undoubtedly the least important."*
*"I swore before the Holy Spirit, if the price must be myself, I would accept it without regret. This is my oath, and my commitment to myself. I cannot consider a misguided path for the sake of my own safety. Otherwise, why wouldn’t I just go back to being a Lich? Upholding faith is not for showing others that I uphold faith, but because I believe faith truly exists."*
*"My faith... it only has me left."*
*"No matter the problems, I should face them, not escape them. Otherwise, I would be admitting my faith is worthless. I would be allowing the demise of my faith, abandoning the meaning of being a Holy Knight."*
Listening, Black Cat seemed a bit flustered.
Vivian sighed lightly, "If every believer of sacred faith were like you... we demons would have nothing to do. Should I be thankful?"
Gray put away the letter and turned to leave the room, returning to the hall.
Everyone was watching him.
Standing tall, Gray gazed at the huge floor-to-ceiling window of the balcony and said softly, "Let’s begin."
