Chapter 104: Chapter 35: Black and White (2)
Gray arrived to find a dozen Silver Moon Knights already guarding the exterior of the mansion.
One of the Silver Moon Knights helped Gray push open the door.
Heading straight to the second floor, Gray arrived at Shelley’s room.
Inside the room stood six additional Silver Moon Knights, Earl Gruglu and his guards were also present.
Shelley had already awakened, sitting on the sofa. Upon seeing Gray, she cried out, "Wow!" and rushed into his arms.
"It’s okay now, I’m here," Gray comforted her while hugging her.
*"They, they made me drink something, but I don’t know what it was."* Shelley was almost breathless from crying.
*"You don’t know what they made you drink?"*
"This." Earl Gruglu, standing nearby, handed over an empty bottle.
Gray held it in his hand and inspected it carefully, unable to discern anything.
"Do you feel any discomfort?" Gray asked.
Shelley blinked her tearful eyes and shook her head, "Not really, it just... tasted awful. The flavor was strange."
*"Forced to drink something unknown, but only worried about the taste?"* The Black Cat said speechlessly.
"Can you vomit it out?" Gray asked.
"I already tried, but I couldn’t." Shelley blinked her eyes.
"Catherine, do you know what this is? Typically, Liches don’t study potions, considering they don’t drink anything," Gray asked Catherine.
"How could anyone identify a potion just by looking at it?" Catherine replied.
"Can you investigate it? I’m worried something might happen to Shelley."
"Sure, take the bottle back with you, I’ll look into it."
*"Why not let me investigate it? Our demonic potions are far more potent than Heaven’s."* Vivian muttered.
"No, I feel safer letting Catherine handle it."
*"Oh, really?"*
"Sir Knight, the assailant was a Blood Elf Mage. We couldn’t stop him; he got away." A Silver Moon Knight approached Gray from behind and whispered, "My helmet fell off, and I’m certain he... saw my face. But only he saw it."
*"We’re doomed!"* The Black Cat exclaimed.
Catherine remained silent.
*"This is truly terrible news. Should I take care of him for you? Angels are reluctant to do such things, but as a Succubus, I’d be delighted. Of course, you’ll need to pay a small price. You know what I mean."* Vivian seemed excited again.
After a long silence, Gray replied softly, "I understand."
...
In the dark outskirts of Lion King City.
Andrew arrived breathlessly at an estate. Approaching a small house, he knocked on the door.
"Open up, it’s me."
The door slowly opened a crack, and the person inside scrutinized Andrew through the gap. After confirming his identity, they fully opened the door.
The tiny wooden house, about several dozen square feet, was packed with a dozen fierce-looking mercenaries. Standing in the center was the disheveled Benedict II, his bloodshot eyes staring at Andrew.
The mercenaries sheathed their weapons one by one and respectfully greeted Andrew.
"Great Mage, any good news?" Benedict II asked.
"I have incredibly good news; you might soon regain control of Lion King City," Andrew said as he walked into the room. Several mercenaries immediately assisted him in removing his hat and cloak.
"Regain control of Lion King City... but I don’t even have an army." Benedict II could scarcely believe it.
"If I say it’s possible, it is. You don’t need an army." Andrew replied with a smile.
Turning around, he walked to the desk, dipped a quill into ink, and quickly wrote a letter on a sheet of white paper. He sealed the letter and handed it to a nearby mercenary, instructing, "Deliver this letter to Pearce Cathedral, to the Holy Knight. Then don’t come back. Go wherever you like. They’ll likely follow you."
"Yes!" The mercenary took the letter and left the wooden house.
Andrew smiled at Benedict II, "I discovered a colossal secret about the Holy Knight, one that can disgrace him completely."
...
Under the starry sky, Catherine flew swiftly with her wings spread out, clutching the empty bottle Gray had entrusted to her.
...
Torches illuminated the front of Pearce Cathedral, making everything bright.
Countless residents had gathered, craning their necks in anticipation. The author of "A Knight’s Guide to Success" was among them.
Inside the cathedral, however, a heated argument was taking place.
"You want to rescind the decree? Do you know the consequences?" Earl Gruglu, rarely angered, scolded Gray with unprecedented severity, "You’ll cause us to lose all our current achievements, and you’ll lose control over both Lion King City and all of Isaac! They’ll drive us out of Lion King City! People still adore you, there’s no need to put yourself in a... an even worse position than submitting to the church!"
Gray stood silent, staring at Earl Gruglu.
Standing or sitting scattered around the hall, several individuals watched Earl Gruglu intently, including Bob, who barely understood.
Surveying the people around him, Earl Gruglu continued harshly, "Am I wrong? This would be the worst decision! We still have leverage to negotiate with the church; even if things worsen, we don’t need to give up everything! We still have the public’s support, the church must consider that! We can even gradually cancel decrees rather than immediately stopping all of them! We can first contact various nations, seek their support. If they refuse to provide food aid, with the people’s support, we can wage war to force them to comply! But directly stopping the decrees means we lose everything! Am I mistaken?"
