Chapter 568: Chapter 568 Old Master Shu (4)_1
In the courtyard, Lady Li of the Ruanlin Family, seeing the imposing Grandpa Shu enter, was already completely stiff, and without even greeting him, she hurriedly ran away holding her grandson in her arms.
Watching her dart out like the wind, Grandpa Shu’s frown deepened, and then he continued to survey the house before him.
This house was definitely one of the best in the village, but in Grandpa Shu’s eyes... it was somewhat... ordinary. Fortunately, the house was kept very clean, especially the vegetable garden tidied up in the courtyard, a lush green expanse that he quite liked.
After roughly surveying the overall environment, he took a couple of steps forward, and then he saw Meatball, lying on its back in the pile of firewood, lazily basking in the sun.
Pointing at it, he said, "This dog, it’s no good for guarding the house." It didn’t even look like a dog anymore.
"..." Meatball quickly rolled over and got up.
With its green eyes glaring, it wanted to bare its teeth at Grandpa Shu, but as soon as it met the other’s gaze, it timidly swallowed back its whining sound.
"Is this really a wolf?" Seeing Meatball’s green eyes, Grandpa Shu spoke with a tone of disbelief.
"Yes, it’s Jiaojiao’s pet. She likes it," Lady Li explained from behind, quite embarrassed. To have raised a wolf to be less fierce than a dog was quite embarrassing for her as well.
Grandpa Shu was silent, shaking his head after a long look at Meatball.
"..." Meatball.
Feeling somewhat aggrieved, it walked to Ruan Jiaojiao’s side and quietly howled.
Ruan Jiaojiao gently patted its little head to comfort it and then ran in front of Grandpa Shu, carrying a chair over, "Grandpa, sit here."
Grandpa Shu, warmed by Ruan Jiaojiao bringing a stool for him, relaxed his stern expression a bit and sat down.
Seeing this, Lady Li seemed to wake from a dream, feeling very apologetic, "Look at me. I forgot to pour you tea. Please, sit for a while," she said and hurried off to the kitchen.
But once in the kitchen, looking at the cups which were clean but had many chips from frequent use, she began to worry again.
These cups, coming from Beidu, were bound to be disdained.
She searched high and low, finally finding two relatively new cups, but then she began to worry again. The crudely made tea leaves at home were probably not to their taste either.
She fretted in the kitchen, and outside, after having waited quite a while without seeing Lady Li come out, Ruan Jiaojiao came looking and saw her grandmother standing in front of the stove with a distressed expression.
"Grandma, what’s wrong?" she approached and asked in a soft voice.
"Ah, we’ve never kept any fine tea leaves at home; this rough tea we drink, I don’t know if your grandpa will be able to stomach it," she sighed and still poured two cups of tea.
"Grandma, it’s okay. This is what we have here, and Grandpa should understand," Ruan Jiaojiao said, and after a pause, added, "Let Jiaojiao carry one cup out." She believed that even if he really disliked it, seeing her bring it out, her grandpa wouldn’t say anything.
"It’s too hot; don’t burn yourself," Lady Li refused, shaking her head, reluctant to let her carry the scalding tea.
Lady Li carried the two cups of tea, and then, thinking of something, she slightly crouched down and whispered instructions to her, "Go outside and find your brother Feng. Tell him to go to your Second Great Uncle’s house and ask Uncle Xu to call your dad back." In matters of dealing with a father-in-law, naturally, the person in question should handle it.
