Chapter 323: 322. See Yourself (3)

Two days after my three days coma, I realised that the egg that I’ve been carrying around was growing larger in size.

"I don’t think this is the right way of growing," I mumbled as I lay on the bed over my chest watching the egg.

I poked it with my fingers and sighed, it seemed as if it was absorbing my mana and brimming to the point that it was growing to manage the amount of mana it was taking in.

"For how long would you stay like this? It’s kind of hard to keep you with me if you keep growing like this, you know? It’s weird to have a bump on my chest when I’m in a disguise of a man." I said and the egg shivered a bit as if responding to me.

"Yes, that’s right, it’s convenient." I said and it shuddered again.

"Just what are you? And for how long are you planning on being in this form?" I asked.

Another shudder before it went still and I sighed, it seemed as if the creature inside had fallen asleep. I brushed my hand over its smooth surface before I closed my eyes.

The next day, I was in my study when I heard the knock on my window and I turned to see a raven outside. Roan stood up and opened the window.

The raven croaked and landed on the window sill, a note attached to its leg. He carefully plucked it off and handed it to me.

It was from Rose. I read the contents and my eyebrows jumped as I scoffed.

"What is it?" Roan asked.

"They found out about that person’s whereabouts." I told him.

"Where? Frosthail? Esmertia? Or some foreign country?" He asked and I chuckled before I handed him the piece of paper and he took it reading the contents.

His reaction was the same as mine and he looked at me.

"Seriously? This person was here?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "They took around one week to notice that this person was right under our noses, in Oasis."

"Well, if they did find out about the location then isn’t it better to capture them?" Roan suggested.

"No, we still don’t know what the complete matter is so, it’s better to just observe and act when we’re sure what we’re dealing with."

"But what if they escape?"

"My people will shadow then even if they go till the ends of the earth."

"So, we just wait?" Roan wondered and I nodded.

That night I returned to my room in Ryujin mansion and changed into pajamas before I plopped on my bed. I was sleepy and I also had to mentally prepare myself for the Founding Day ball that would literally feast on my mental capacity.

I placed the egg on the pillow at my side and poked it softly with my finger.

"I won’t be able to carry you around anymore," I said and the egg shuddered.

"I understand, you want to be carried but you’re getting too big and not hatching so, it’s kind of inconvenient to carry you around."

The egg shuddered as if resisting my decision but then I sighed.

"Look, I want the best for you and I would have kept you with me all the time but I have to travel most of the time and I couldn’t risk you, that’s why-"

The egg almost shuddered violently and I gasped as it rolled off the pillow, thanks to my reflexes I caught it.

"Don’t throw a tantrum, I’m happy that you are growing strong enough but if you’re ready to get out then gather your strength and hatch that egg." I encouraged it and it went still.

"What’s wrong?" I asked and it stayed silent with no movements.

I sighed, "Fell asleep again."

I placed the egg back on the pillow and placed the other pillows and a thick scarf to make a safe boundary so that it wouldn’t roll over.

Though I was in for a surprise the next day.

I woke up hearing a strange sound. It sounded like a whistle but quite a weird whistle, I sat up rubbing my eyes and looked beside me and my eyes went wide as I didn’t see the egg beside me. The pillows and the scarf was flattened as if something heavy rolled off over it and I cursed myself for not noticing.

The sound persisted from the other side and I crawled over and peeked to see a black furball making that sounds. The large egg was cracked and in comparison the creature was rather small.

As if noticing me the blob turned and my eyebrows jumped as I saw its round magnetic blue eyes. It was an owl and it was freakishly adorable.

It opened its curled black beak and hooted and bounced on its tiny legs making me chuckle.

I reached out and picked it up from the floor, it was so tiny that it fit on my palm.

"Look at you." I chuckled as the baby owl hooted nonstop.

[Congratulations. You have gained a wise familiar.]

[Goddess of Wisdom asks if you like it.]

[Defender of Divine Glory congratulates you on successfully hatching your very first familiar.]

[Giver of Gifts finds your familiar adorable.]

"Thank you, Goddess of Wisdom. This is so cute!"

The description panel was just beside the notifications so, I started reading.

[Athenox owl is the rarest type of species that absorb the mana energy of their imprinted Master to survive. With time, they grow larger in size as they absorb more and more mana. The warning is for the host that they will feel their mana depletion of the host’s mana capacity is less. But if the host’s body has an insurmountable amount of mana then they should make sure to keep the mana transfer in small portions because the Athenox owl is capable of growing half as large as a Dragon.]

My eyebrows jumped as I read the description and then looked at the owlet in my palm. This tiny thing could grow half the size of a Dragon?

It was unbelievable.

To be honest, I was kind of expecting an owl since it was a reward from Athena but for her to actually gift me a familiar of her favored species was a big thing.

"By the way, what is it? Male or Female?" I asked.

[The familiar that you have watched is a male Athenox owl.]

I brushed my fingers over his soft body, his black fluffy down seemed to absorb light while his striking blue eyes reflected my appearance.

"Welcome baby owlet." I said with a smile and the owlet hooted, "From now on, you will be called Nox."

The owlet hooted again, "Do you like it?"

The owlet hooted and brushed his head against my thumb and I chuckled.

The first thing after bathing that I did was bring Nox to Kai. Kai’s eyes went wide with awe as he watched the baby owl perched on my palm watching Kai.

"It’s so adorable." Kai breathed with his face going red with excitement.

"Want to hold him?" I asked and Kai looked at me.

"I can?!" He asked and I chuckled.

"Here," I said and gently placed Nox on Kai’s palms.

Nox hobbled a bit but then settled, looking in between me and Kai. Nox was brimming with my mana energy so, I guess he was trying to familiarise itself with both of our energies.

"His name is Nox."

"Nox," Kai spelled it and then grinned widely as he saw the owlet carefully.

"Can I play with him?"

"Sure," Kai beamed and then started to leave the room but the owlet started hooting and whining loudly making Kai stop and look at me.

The owlet was almost throwing itself out of Kai’s hands, I reached out and the owlet crawled over my palm brushing itself over my palm.

"Does he not like me?" Kai asked and I smiled.

"It’s not that, Kai." I said as I placed my hand over his head.

"Nox is still a baby and since he sees me as a parent so, he will get scared of I’m not around him." I explained Kai and he looked a bit glum.

"Besides, it could be a bit dangerous to take him outside right away, he’s just a couple of hours old." I said and Kai hummed.

"Then, can I play with Nox in my room?" He asked and I looked at the owlet and then at the expectant child.

"I have to be in the study so, I guess you two will then have to be in the office with me." I said and Kai’s eyes widened.

He seemed to love the idea of spending the day in my office with Nox.

Roan’s reaction was funny when he saw Nox for the first time. Kai introduced him.

"This is Nox." Kai said showing Roan the owlet.

"Whoa... I’ve never seen an owl so black and with blue eyes at that, where did you find it, Young Master?" Roan asked.

"He is Master’s." Kai said and Roan looked at me.

"Wait, is this owl from the egg that you carried around?" Roan asked and I nodded.

"Yes,"

"Where did you find it?"

"A Goddess gave it to me." I said and Roan cocked his brow.

"Really?"

[Goddess of Wisdom warns you about the breach of confidential information.]

"Chill, he won’t believe it."

"Sure, I won’t be surprised if you said that your wings were from an angel."

[Defender of Divine Glory warns you about the breach of confidential information.]

"What did I say? He is joking." I defended myself before I walked over and sat down on my chair.

Nox’s eyes followed me and I watched as he struggled to keep me in his sights.

Kai and Nox stayed in the office all day and during his break time, Roan also played a bit with Nox. Enora brought some snacks for Kai and some proper owl food for Nox while I worked. There weren’t many days left in the Founding Day ball and that meant I would face the Golden Serpent and a lot of people.

There was a whole new arc that was starting from here.
