Chapter 324: 323. Founding Day Ball (1)

A couple of days passed by and finally the day of the Founding Day ball came, it also prompted my personnel to do their best into making me their doll.

I faced the mirror with my arms raised and the maids along with Lyall and Remi were dressing me up.

"What about this one?"

"No, no, sapphires would suit."

"Where are the accessories?"

"Ah, right here!"

"Pin it properly."

I was standing like an inanimate doll for the past half an hour and I was wondering if being in a male’s body would make me stand for so long to get ready then what would happen if I were a lady.

[Defender of Divine Glory reminds you that you are a Lady.]

[Goddess of Wisdom didn’t expect you to forget in what body you were born.]

[Giver of Gifts is eager to see how you will look when you’re done preparing.]

Their words might give someone a misunderstanding that they were my parents.

[Goddess of Wisdom reminds you that they are your Patrons.]

I sighed as I saw no use in debating with them over this, over the past couple of days, I realised the reason why I had fallen into that three days coma.

These three were the culprits for that.

[Defender of Divine Glory says it’s extreme to call them culprits.]

[Goddess of Wisdom says they only wanted to spend some time with you.]

[Giver of Gifts says she wished to keep you longer.]

"Anymore than that and my father would have collapsed of worry!"

I kept my expression neutral as I argued with my Patrons. The mirror reflected the burnt half face of Ocean Ryujin that the King had seen during our past meeting and now here I was going to attend the Founding Day ball that was skipped for two years.

"Here, put this on," Bailey handed Remi a silver pocket watch and he adjusted it to my vest.

It was actually a device that I received from Silas a while ago as an apology. I had gone back to the Tower and apologised to him earnestly making him feel apologetic as he lashed out so badly at a child. So, he gave me this emergency call pocket watch which would give him my location if I were in any distress.

It was his way of looking out for me, it was endearing.

I moved my head slightly as Lyall adjusted the cravat over my neck and after around half an hour I was finally ready to wear my mask which was the final touch to my ensemble.

Remi helped put it on and everyone of them gazed with the seriousness of perfectionsists to see if their masterpiece was as they had imagined it to be.

Andrea sniffled and covered her mouth as she saw me, "How astoundingly beautiful!"

"We’ve done it again, he looks like breathtaking!" Bailey sniffled.

"What are you saying?" Remi chuckled, "Master has always been breathtaking. It’s just he looks heartstopping today."

"Your compliments sound a bit dangerous." I said and heard Lyall clearing his throat behind me.

"You really look like someone who could take over anyone with your beauty alone, Master."

I felt a bit embarrassed but it wasn’t so bad, Ocean was probably going to attract a lot of attention today at the ball. I was already expecting a lot of marriage and business proposals since tonight was about me.

There was a knock on the door and Enora poked her head in.

"Are you all done yet?" She asked and paused as she looked at me.

"We’re done, has the carriage arrived?" I asked and she blinked.

"Even Mrs Jones was spellbound when she saw, Master!" The maids chuckled and I sighed.

"Ah, Mr Lyall please take care of our Master at the ball!" Andrea suddenly said as she looked at Lyall.

"Do you think I’ll get lost?" I asked her.

"No," she shook her head, "What I mean is, the noble ladies would definitely try to abduct you considering you look so ravishing, Master. We don’t want to lose you."

"That’s true." Bailey nodded and I burst out laughing.

"We are entrusting our Master to you, Mr Lyall. Please, protect him." Remi said and I shook my head.

"Now, now, don’t give Lyall so much pressure. I’m sure I will only be abducted if I wanted to go with her willingly." I smirked making the maids and Remi go red while Lyall simply cleared his throat.

"Master, the carriage is here." Enora piped in and I turned to the small nest that I had made from the softest cushions and picked up Nox from there.

He sat on my palm while I brushed my fingers over its soft, fragile little head.

"All right, let’s get going "

Lyall fell in step behind me and I saw Kai on my way towards the stairs. He stood there with Asher behind him. I was getting a complete report from the people that I had asked to shadow him all the time that he did anything remotely suspicious. He was skilled but I didn’t want a rotten fruit in my carts, I’d rather get rid of one instead of throwing away the entire harvest.

Kai looked at me with glowing wide eyes as if he was enchanted, I walked over and sat down on my knees before him.

"Eat your dinner and sleep on time, all right?" I said as I reached out and brushed his plump cheek.

He nodded with his cheeks going red and I smiled, "How do I look?"

"Y-You look very beautiful!" He said and I chuckled.

"It’s handsome for men, Young Master." Enora corrected and Kai blushed getting flustered.

"Ah, I’m sorry! Y-You lo-look really handsome, Master!" He squeaked and I ruffled his hair.

"I’m fine with anything," I said and he looked down.

"I’ll be back late so, don’t wait for me, all right?" I said and he nodded.

I then brought Nox ahead and making Kai look at him, "Also, can you take care of him for tonight?"

Kai’s face brightened up, he liked playing with Nox and it was almost endearing to see them getting along.

"Nox, don’t trouble Kai and don’t cry, do you understand?" I spoke and he hooted.

I brushed my fingers over it sending a little bit of my energy into him, Nox rubbed his head against my fingers and I handed him to Kai.

I smiled as I saw him stand there, he had cried a lot when I didn’t show up for three days and had thought that I had abandoned him. I could imagine how scared he must be.

I leaned ahead and his eyes widened as I pressed my lips over his forehead.

"Good night, Kai." I said softly.

He stood there stunned touching his forehead as I stood up and looked at Asher.

"Take good care of him," I told him and then turned on my heel.

Lyall walked behind me as we made our way out of the mansion towards where the carriage waited for us.

I got on followed by Lyall and I sighed crossing my legs as I looked out of the window. It was still early evening and we had to go all the way over to the royal palace where this ball was going to be held.

The general populace was quite happy to finally get to celebrate the Founding Day festivities and that’s why it was a blast all over the towns. Even my own Oasis town along with the sister towns that I had under my control now ere celebrating but instead of the Founding Day it was the celebration of me gaining more power.

The streets were lit up with the lanterns and the laughter and chatter of the people filled the air and I saw as the people were happily celebrating their joys. I wasn’t particularly happy about it because I missed Rune. I wished he would be here to see all this as well. But no, he was stuck in the battlefield.

Lyall cleared his throat and I hummed allowing him to speak.

"Are you angry, Master?"

"I wanted Rune to be here as well... All of them to be honest, but everyone here are celebrating and holding balls while my brother and a lot others are fighting on the battlefield. Unfair, isn’t it?"

"Hopefully they will return soon," Lyall said as if trying to cheer me up but I knew better.

"No," I said, "They won’t return for a couple more years."

Even speaking about it gave me a bitter aftertaste in my mouth.

"I couldn’t even return as soon as the King would be done with his announcement of making me a Marquis and about the others receiving the rewards." I mumbled as I pushed the curtain over the window.

After a couple of minutes, we were entering the palace grounds. The carriage was stopped at the entrance and Lyall showed the guards the invitation as well as my crest to verify my identity.

I could see that the guards were eager to have a glimpse but Lyall was resolute enough to not let them.

With that we entered the palace and I closed my eyes for a moment, there would be a lot of people who would do all they could to get on my nerves but there were also those who were on my side. I just hoped that I would get out of here soon enough.

But then, again, every ball was eventful in one way or another. I just wonder what I had in store.
