Chapter 311: 310. A Father’s Pride (4)

"Is it all right to tell him who we are?" Marquis Fairisles asked me and I looked at Kai who was still wary of the two men.

"He’ll need to know sooner or later," I said, "You two keep coming here frequently so I can’t have him get scared every time."

Silas looked at me with his arms still crossed at his chest and I sighed, "I know what you are here for, but can it wait?"

Silas sighed, "Fine."

"Thank you," I said before I faced Grandfather.

I and Kai sat down on the sofa facing Grandfather while Silas stood near the window.

"Was your mission successful?" Grandfather asked and I nodded.

"It was a great success."

"Then this child is the Saint," Grandfather mused as he observed Kai.

"Was," I corrected, "He’s mine now."

Grandfather gave me a curious look before he studied Kai who was sticking to me like a little koala.

"By the looks, it seems like you have adopted this child?"

"Yes," I answered.

"Will he be your heir then?"

"Yes,"

"What about the other Dragon child then?" Silas piped in.

"One person cannot handle the things that I’m doing, both of them will have their share of responsibilities," I answered.

"Were there any other problems that you faced in Denril?" Grandfather asked.

"Nothing much," I lied but felt Silas’s sharp gaze bore holes into my skull.

Grandfather’s gaze went back to Kai, "How long are you going to keep him like this?"

"What do you mean?"

"You would have to show him to the world as your heir and he should also learn how to associate with the people. He can’t stay like this."

"There he goes," I heard Silas mutter and I sighed.

"He’s still a child, Grandfather. He needs some time to adjust to his surroundings,"

"The King will soon send you an invitation to the Founding day ball."

"Oh, will it be held this year?" I wondered aloud.

"Don’t act surprised, you will have to come before the people for that, the nobles will be all over you to either gain your support or to try and drag you down." He chided and I nodded.

"I know," I then looked at Kai, "I’ll teach him about it."

"Do you even have enough time for that?" Silas asked and I looked at him.

"Well, of course, I’m not going to do it alone." I smiled making him frown.

"Grandfather, and Uncle you two will be helping me, won’t you?"

Kai’s face paled and I smiled, "Grandfather can take care of the academics and Uncle can help teach him magic."

"I don’t have time for that," Silas quickly said and I looked at Grandfather.

"It’s strange, but since I have looked after Prince Eric, I guess I can give you a hand in teaching this child the things that he needs to learn."

"Thank you, Grandfather. I’ll send him to you when he is ready for that."

"Are you sure you want that child to be sent to him?" Silas asked.

"Do you want to take over?"

"No,"

"Then, it’s decided." I announced.

After a couple of minutes, I sent Kai back and Remi served us tea and I faced the two men. The pleasantries and the greetings were out of the way so it was time for business.

"It always makes me wonder, Reina." Silas spoke up, "What exactly was the reason for you to go to Denril? You didn’t go because you wanted to end the war. You only went there to destroy their temple?"

"I didn’t destroy the temple, Uncle. I destroyed those people who were tarnishing the name of the Saintess and Dragons." I corrected him.

"Doesn’t change my question." He said and I sighed.

"I didn’t go because of the war, in future, I would take advantage of my appearance in Denril to influence the outcome of this war. But now, it I meddled with the war then the Golden Serpent and the King will be at advantage. I don’t want that. I don’t want them to have the fruits of our hard work."

Silas looked at me as if trying to decipher what was going in my head.

"The war to end in a draw in these circumstances is hard," I started, "Denril might lose if I meddle and I don’t want them to lose the hold their have of the sea routes right now. Roger, is the one who waged this war, so, he should know the consequences of them. I can’t have him win. I want to take away everything that he cherishes before this war ends."

Silas and Grandfather looked at me for a long moment before I sighed and decided to change the topic.

"What was that about Viscount Jordan getting executed all of a sudden?" I asked.

Marquis blinked as if he remembered something and then pulled out something from his vest and placed it on the table, "I wanted to give this to you as soon as I came but then I ran into that child."

I picked up the envelope and plucked out the letter from inside, it was actually a brief description of a woman along with some details. It was a crude image with the description of her physical features.

A woman in her mid thirties with long red hair, amber eyes.

"Who’s this?" I asked.

"The reason that killed Viscount Jordan." Grandfather said and I cocked a brow.

Silas who was standing away walked up to me and leaned over my shoulder to see what that paper had.

"This person is the reason why Viscount Jordan was accused of treason and then executed?" I asked and Grandfather nodded.

"Why?" Silas asked.

"I don’t know much, but it seems like the Queen had ordered Viscount to do some research about this person," Grandfather pointed at the paper, "Nobody knows what he found but then he was suddenly arrested by the royal guards for plotting against the King and him and his whole family was executed."

"Sounds pretty shady." I mumbled.

"It is," Silas agreed.

"I’ll get my people to look for this person." I said as I kept the paper back in the envelope.

I went to place the envelope in my best pocket but then remembered that I had the egg there. I placed the envelope down and faced Grandfather.

"Are you going to explain what happened in Denril now? Why did that crystal shatter?" Silas demanded as he walked over and took a seat on the arm chair adjacent to me.

I cleared my throat as I looked at him and then at Grandfather.

"What crystal?" Grandfather asked.

"I gave her a ring with a crystal that had a lot of my mana embued in it, it could be used for at least a hundred times if she wanted to cast a shield to protect herself but, it shattered during a fight. I need to know how?" He spoke before his sharp gaze found a home on me.

Grandfather’s eyebrows furrowed and he also looked at me as if wanting an answer.

I sighed as both father and son gave me the unrelenting look.

"I hid something from you," I admitted,"The dark mage that I told you about... the one who cursed Kai."

I licked my lips, "It wasn’t a human,"

"Then?" Silas prompted.

"It was a demon."

"What?" Silas frowned while Grandfather stared at me as if he didn’t hear what I just said.

"It was a demon," I repeated, "A person had summoned a demon and that demon in turn had taken over that man’s body."

"You-" Silas was about to explode when I felt the strong surge of mana charge the air and I looked at Grandfather.

He was angry.

"Keep going." He commanded.

I looked once at Silas who fell silent and I continued, "That demon had orchestrated everything, from Kai’s entry into the Temple to him being made a Saint. He wanted to lure me."

"Why you?" Grandfather asked.

I inhaled deeply and asked, "Remember the incident where the villages near the Frosthail entrance were being attacked by the waves of rogue shifters?"

"And Count Erkens said that someone helped him smuggle those rogues?"

Grandfather nodded slowly and Silas leaned ahead.

"That person was that demon."

Their eyes went wide and I added, "He was also responsible for a couple of things that I faced in Mordino."

Silas shook his head as if trying to settle his troubled thoughts and asked, "Are you trying to say that this demon had always been out for you?"

"Yes,"

"And you knew about it?" Grandfather asked.

"No," I said honestly, "I had no idea until he told me himself,"

"What else did he do?" Grandfather asked.

"He told me about that black liquid that made the rogues berserk," I said and looked at Silas whose eyebrows shot up.

"It was his blood, and those red stones that I gave you, they were the soul stones of the demons."

Silas stiffened and Grandfather stared at me with a frigid gaze, the mana in the air was so thick that it seemed like the room was shrinking. The egg near my chest, shuddered and I placed my hand over it.

"What else happened there?" Grandfather asked.

"I had to fight him to get the curse removed," I said, "But since he knew he couldn’t defeat me after his upperhand was gone so, he took over the body of the Crown Prince of Denril to fight me."

"The Crown Prince?" Silas frowned and I nodded.

"I had ran into him while I was entering Denril, that child has a Dragon sword." I said and the two stiffened.

"You mean the sword that... could harm and possibly kill you?" Silas asked and I nodded.

"That pink crystal actually took the brunt of the attack from the Dragon sword and shattered." I explained.

"How did you defeat that demon then?" Grandfather asked.

"I didn’t," I admitted.

"I... Almost ended up getting myself taken over."

The invisible mana storm that was brewing in the surroundings suddenly flared and I inhaled again.

"But, before I could lose myself, someone helped me."

"Who?" Grandfather asked.

"I don’t know, it was some boy... He seemed to know who I was and what I was." I said.

"Do you know him?" Silas asked.

I shook my head, "I have a feeling that I’ll see him around at some time but he did save my life back there."
