Chapter 302: 301. Loose Ends (2)

I went straight to the residence where I had stayed before I entered the Temple, the Lewinstein manor.

I landed in front of the entrance and shifted my form from Ocean to Mirielle, I knocked on the door and the door was opened by the head butler Mr Speil he gasped as he saw me.

"M-Miss Mirielle!" He gasped and I smiled.

"How are you, Mr Speil?"

"Oh my! I’m-I’m fine. P-Please come inside, My Lady!" He ushered me inside happily.

"Sir Asher is here, I shall inform him of your arrival right away!" He excitedly said as he showed me to the reception room.

"Yes," I smiled.

Mrs Speil arrived a couple of minutes later with a tray of tea and snacks, her eyes watered as soon as she saw me and I smiled.

"How are you, Mrs Speil?" I asked and she placed the tray down on the table before she walked over and hugged me.

I patted her back gently as I felt her soft sniffles over my shoulder.

"Oh my God! I’ve never been so better, My Lady." She said before she pulled back and looked at me.

"I knew you would return some day." She smiled despite the tears running down her cheeks.

I smiled as I gently wiped her tears away, "I’m afraid but I’m not here for long, I have something to talk to Sir Asher and then I’ll have to leave."

"Why?" She grasped my hands.

"Stay here! You know Young Master has feelings for you, you could get married and stay together here." She said and I smiled sadly.

"I’m really sorry," I said and just then the doors burst open and Asher entered.

He was dressed in a simple button down shirt and black trousers, his eyes wide as he saw me.

"Mirielle..." He whispered before he rushed over to me and I was taken aback when he threw his arms around me.

I blinked as I felt him holding onto me.

"You’re really here!" He whispered.

Mrs Speil left the room and I stayed still with my arms at my sides. Asher pulled back and looked at me with the unshed tears of joy sitting at the corners of his eyes.

"I knew you would come back to me. I knew you also liked me," he chuckled as he happily went on and I stayed silent.

"You’ll stay with me from now on, right? You will, right?" He asked and I looked into his eyes.

"I’m sorry, Asher." I said and his eyes made it hard for me to keep the eye contact but I kept my eyes locked onto his.

"I can’t be with you."

"Why? Is it because of your engagement with Ace? I will handle it all! But please... please stay with me, Mirielle, I-I love you so much..." He spoke and I sighed.

"I’m sorry, Asher. I... I have been pretending all along... I’m not the truth..." I said and his eyebrows furrowed.

"What do you mean?"

I closed my eyes for a moment and removed his hands from my and stepped back.

"Mirielle Clarkson... doesn’t exist." I said finally and he frowned stepping closer again.

"What are you saying? You’re right here, Mirielle, is it because of Ace? Did he tell you to say all this?" He asked and I shook my head.

"I apologise for being so cruel and using your feelings, Asher. But, neither Mirielle nor Ace, are real people." I said making him stare at me.

"What do you mean? I-I have met you two and how..."

I sighed and reached out and touched my earstud turning into Ocean right in front of him. Asher stumbled back as his eyes went wide with shock and he blinked several times.

"In order to fulfill my role here, I had to create the illusion of Mirielle and Ace..." I told him and he kept staring at me.

"You can curse at me all you want, I don’t have any excuse for playing with your heart except for the truth that I wanted to fulfill my responsibilities here." I said and stood before him.

Asher stared at me for a long moment staring quietly before he stepped ahead and reached out to touch my cheek. I felt his fingers slowly brush over my false skin and a tear drop slid down his cheek.

"Lie... It was... all a lie..." He breathed.

"I was... used so that you could fulfill your plan..."

I didn’t say anything and felt him grip my arms tightly, it didn’t hurt a bit.

"Why? How could you? All this while you’ve been pretending and acting, all this while you never bothered to tell me that you-you were... Why not tell me in the beginning? I-I could have helped you out of you had told me the truth then why?!" He shouted and I kept quiet staring into his eyes that seemed like the liquidizing rivers that flowed down his cheeks.

"You call yourself an almighty Dragon! And you stooped so low just so that you could use me for your plan." He shouted.

"So much for being a generous and great Dragon!" He spat as he let go of my arms.

I felt guilty but there was no other way, I could have let him live in the lie but it would have left me in guilt and I didn’t want that.

"Everyone in this house... were hoping that you would be the lady of this house and their mistress... My wife and you..." He spoke as he staggered back and plopped down on the sofa.

I watched him as he held his head in his hands and I walked up to stand in front of him.

"I won’t beg for your forgiveness... But I could say one last thing, Asher."

He lifted his head and glared at me with his bloodshot eyes.

"I owe you," I said, "you went out of your ways for me so, I would like to grant you something... If you want something from me then... ask for it. If it’s in my power then I’ll give it to you."

He stared at me venomously before he stood up towering over me by a couple of inches.

"Anything that I ask?" He asked and I nodded.

"Give me Mirielle." He demanded.

"She... doesn’t-"

"If you can’t give me Mirielle then hand over your life." He spat and I sighed.

"You can’t, can you?" He chuckled darkly.

"You are a Dragon but you can’t give me what I want."

"Fine," I said and he paused for a moment.

"What?"

"I almost did lose my life while fighting a demon but I didn’t expect a human to ask for it." I said as my hand reached up to my earstud again and I pulled it off reverting to my Reina’s form.

Asher’s eyes widened and I looked up at him.

"Another disguise!" He grimaced and I shook my head.

"This is my real form... I was born in this body, I became a Dragon after. This responsibility that I have also came after." I explained and he stared down at me.

"Y-You are a... child..."

"Yes, I’m Reina Aurelius, daughter of the Duke Arthur of Sestia." I curtsied with the grace that had been ingrained in my body.

"Se-Sestia?!" He gasped as he almost fell back on the sofa.

"Yes, I came all the way here because of the wrongdoings of the Temple here. I am meant to return soon to my family and the people who are living in the place that I created. But since you have asked for my life, I’ll give it to you. Kill me if you’d like." I said as I stood in front of me.

[Goddess of Wisdom reminds you that a mere human cannot kill you.]

"I know, be quiet." I thought.

Asher stared at me as I was close to his eye level while he sat and he exhaled loudly.

"Y-You expect me to kill you after you’ve shown me your real form?" He asked.

"You couldn’t harm my false body, it’s only an illusion. This is my original body so, you could kill me." I said placing my hand over my heart.

He closed his eyes and placed his face on his palms, "Why... are you doing this to me?"

"I apologise for hurting you, Sir Asher." I spoke and he looked at me for a long moment.

"... Leave... Please..." He said and I stepped back putting on the sapphire earstud reverting to Mirielle’s form again.

"In future... If you would want to contact me for anything then... you could use this." I said as I placed a spare communication device on the table before him.

"Since I owe you, I’ll come for your help." I said before I walked over to the door.

I glanced once at Asher before I walked out. On my way out, I ran into Mrs Speil and I handed her the ivory hair pin which she had given me. She wasn’t accepting it back but I insisted on returning it so she had to take it back.

With that, I left the Lewinstein manor for good.
