Chapter 243: 242. Silent Misery (1)
"What the-"
I gasped as I saw the child’s tongue which had the strange dirty red hued concentric circles with inscriptions.
Thanks to the gift of knowledge of linguistics, I was able to understand what those inscriptions meant.
I held his jaw scowling deeply as I glared at the inscriptions. The words like absolute secrecy, and death were emphasized. Among the stuff that I had learned from Silas these kind of spells were different from the mana contract that was used on a normal basis. This particular spell belonged to the special class of spells, and that was the dark spells. The ones which did only bad. While the magic contract did bind a person to the contract, these kind of spells that were casted on the body of the host were extremely potent and weren’t easy to cancel.
If this child has this spell on his tongue then there was a high chance that this matter went really deeper than what I had presumed. Something even more vile than the greedy priests was involved in this matter.
My blood sizzled under my skin and I could feel my Mana Presence whipping around.
"Who did this to you?" I almost growled and the boy shuddered.
His eyes started watering and I sighed releasing his jaw before I gestured for him to come with me.
I let him sit down on the armchair and brewed him some tea, he was hesitant to take it but since I insisted he took the teacup from me. I sat down in front of him observing him.
This boy was in far deeper problem than I had assumed at first. He didn’t only have the mana cancelling cuffs on his ankles but also the dark spell on his tongue to keep him from spilling the information.
"There is only the specific information that you’re not allowed from saying, right?" I asked and he nodded.
"You could ask for help?"
"That’s... Because... no one else will be able to help me... Nobody is stronger than them..." He spoke in a low voice and I sighed running my hand through my hair.
"You can’t even write or tell in gestures who it was?"
He shook his head. I could only imagine what could happen if he tried to say it. I stood up and walked over to him, he looked up at me and I placed my hand over his head brushing his hair softly.
"You’ve endured a lot, child." He turned away as if hiding his tears.
"But you don’t need to anymore, even if you can’t tell me anything. All you have to do is, call for me. I’ll come to you. Do you get it?" I asked and he lifted his head.
"Really?" He asked and I smiled.
"I did come all the way here, didn’t I?" I asked and his small face brightened up as a wide smile graced his beautiful features.
"Tha-Thank you, Lord Dragon!"
"Ah, about that, make sure to not call me Lord Dragon. Address me like the others do here, as Saintess."
He nodded like an obedient child and I smiled as how adorable he was.
"Is there anything that you could tell me about the Temple though?" I asked and he seemed thoughtful for a moment.
He told me about a couple of things, most of what only comprised of the schedules of the Priests and the timings of prayer. As well as a little about the building. I hummed as I absorbed all the information and then turned my head as I sensed a presence approaching my room.
"Whatever we talked about here, will be a secret, all right?" I asked and the kid nodded.
"Somebody is coming, probably to take you back so, go for now." His expression turned crestfallen and I felt a pinch in my chest.
"I’ll give you a name soon so, look forward to that." I told him and his expression quickly changed.
"Yes, Lo-Saintess!" He grinned and I brushed his hair again.
This child was really adorable, he almost reminded me of Drac but he was younger and seemed more innocent and vulnerable.
There was a knock on the door and the two priests who usually followed Benedict stood there.
"Uh, we have come here to escort the Saint," the pudgy one said with a smile and I narrowed my eyes.
"Escort him?" I asked.
"Yes..."
"Fine," I smiled as I turned back to look at the kid.
"They’re here for you," he stood near the sofa hesitantly.
"Come," I beckoned him and he walked up to me.
He stood by my side and the two Priests looked at me and then at him.
"He’s such a lovely company that I don’t want to part," I spoke.
The pudgy priest laughed, "I know, I know, our Saint is as innocent as a newborn."
"Yes, yes, his presence is enough to soothe anyone’s heart!" The large Priest equipped.
"Then, will I be able to see him any time that I want?" I asked and the two paused exchanging a glance.
"That uh... might not be possible..." The pudgy priest laughed awkwardly.
"That’s a shame, I kind of like our little Saint," I said as I wrapped my arm around his shoulders.
They looked at the Saint and then at me, I could make use of these two.
"I hoped I could have a way to see him often, is it perhaps possible if any of you would help me?"
The two flinched, "Us?"
"Yes, if you could help me in that then, I would ask my fiance into helping you too." I smirked.
Their eyes went wide as they seemed to contemplate over it but then they shook their heads.
"No, no! Your fiance is a scary man, besides, High Priest won’t allow us and this is a matter regarding the Saint-"
"I am a Saintess too so, I should have some privilege, right?" I asked and the two glanced at each other.
"I’m not asking for whole day, just for some time everyday."
"E-Everyday?!" The large Priest gasped.
"Yes," I smiled.
"But..."
"Is that a no?" I asked and the two seemed hesitant as they looked at each other as if conversing with only gestures and expressions.
"We-We can try but... Will your fiance really do something for us?"
"Of course, he was kind enough to make preparations for my comfortable stay here so, I’m sure he would do this small thing as well." I smiled.
The two seemed to contemplate over it, "Um... Only once a day, right?"
"Yes,"
"Then... I guess we could help you with that." The pudgy priest said and I smirked.
"Thank you, I’ll talk with Ace regarding you two, uh... What are your names though?"
"Ah, I’m Dorris," the pudgy one said.
"And I’m Long." The large one said.
"All right, I’ll keep your names in mind," I smiled and the two smiled back.
I could see the shine in their eyes before I gestured for the Saint to leave. He seemed a little reluctant but I simply patted his head reassuring him quietly.
The kid went back with the two priests and I closed the door before walking back up to the armchair.
I picked up the communication device, pouring my mana into it.
"Uncle? Uncle? Are you there?" I called out.
It took him a few seconds to respond.
"Reina? I’m here, what’s the-"
"Theres something I want you to do, Uncle." I said.
"What is it?" He asked cautiously.
"Remember you told me about the Dark Spells when you were explaining me about that black fluid?"
"Yes,"
"I want to know if there is a way to break one such dark spell."
"What?!"
"If there is a way, please tell me Uncle."
"Wait, Reina. Did someone cast a dark spell on you? No, wait... Can you tell me what happened first?"
"The matters here are more serious than I contemplated, Uncle. The Saint child is in trouble and needs help."
I heard him sigh on the other end, "I guess I can’t argue if you’ve already decided to help him out."
"Yes, so, please tell me how I could break the dark spell."
"What kind of spell is it?"
"Secrecy spell." I answered.
He was quiet for a long moment before he asked, "Do you know who casted it?"
"No, he’s not allowed to share any information about it."
"Then, how did you know what he was cursed with the secrecy dark spell?"
"The spell is etched on his tongue." I said and heard a low gasp on the other side.
"A spell stamped on the body..." I heard him mutter.
"It’s tricky, Reina. If the spell is on the body of the child then it would be harder to remove it."
"I know that, Uncle. But, I need to remove it soon, I could only imagine what the consequences would be if the child spilled something."
"His head will burst," Silas answered in a grim tone.
