Chapter 242: 241. Goddess Enters The Temple (3)

Asher pursed his lips before he took my wrist.

"Is it because of your fiance?" He asked and I sighed before I reached out and touched his cheek gently, healing him.

His bruises and injuries disappeared and he gasped before his eyes softened.

"Miss Mirielle... you..."

"I am not here because he forced me to, I came here on my accord."

He didn’t seem convinced, "Why?"

"Because that’s what my job is,"

His eyebrows furrowed and I sighed, "I can’t explain you much of it but there is something that must be done here and for that my presence here is necessary."

"But you don’t-"

"I have an idea of what you’re trying to say but don’t be worried. He has made sure that I won’t be in any trouble, he has taken all the precautions before sending me here and to prove it, your presence here in front of me is enough."

Asher blinked as if realising it only now but I wouldn’t blame him, he didn’t trust Ace. Moreover, he must be pissed because Ace was my "fiance".

"I still cannot trust him, Miss Mirielle. Sending you here was bad enough, none of the precautions will work once you’re in here. You don’t even know what the Saint is going through."

My eyebrows twitched as he said that, "The Saint?"

Asher opened his mouth but then closed it.

"You shall understand when you see it for yourself."

"What do you mean?"

"Please... stay away from the Priests here and... call me at any time you need." He said squeezing my hand and I nodded.

"I will,"

He stared at me for a moment before he let go of my hands and stepped out of the room.

I sat down on the bed feeling slightly tired but I couldn’t shake off his words about the Saint kid. Was he not being treated well here?

The priests seemed greedy and cunning but that was ignorable, there were a couple of people that I had to be wary of but then, it was fine enough.

While Lyall and others would work from outside, I’d do my work from inside.

Besides, I had to see the Saint too.

I stood up and called for the two maids that I was assigned and they arrived with a couple of seconds.

"Yes, Saintess? What do you need?"

"Can you take me to the Saint? I’d like to meet him."

The two exchanged a glance, looking hesitant.

"The Saint?"

"Yes, if he’s not busy then, I’d like to see him now."

"The Saint must be praying in his chambers now." One of the girls said.

"Hm? Then, I shall go and pray along." I said as I sidestepped and walked towards the door.

"Ah! Wait, Saintess!" The two immediately jumped in my way making me frown.

They looked at each other again before they spoke, "I-I shall ask High Priest to escort the Saint here, please don’t leave the chambers."

I narrowed my eyes slightly at their words, I shouldn’t leave the chambers? Why?

"All right, I’ll be waiting." I smiled.

"And if he’s not brought here then, I shall go seek him out myself."

The two flinched at my words before they bowed and scurried away.

I sat down in the armchair waiting, the room was pretty decent, with a bed, wardrobe, bathroom, two armchairs and sofa, as well as a coffee table. There was a window with the yellow curtains, but no balcony. It was on the third floor and there was a flat, stone cobbled path right beneath.

I waited for around fifteen minutes, and my patience started wearing thin. I released an exasperated sigh and stood up. If they wouldn’t bring him here then it was obvious that something was wrong. I’d go and see for myself.

I reached in front of the door and felt their presences approaching, I stepped back and waited till they were in front of the door. Along with the footsteps there was a strange sound of metal clinking softly, it was rhythmic as if someone who wore an anklet was coming towards me.

The door opened and I faced the High Priest Benedict and beside him the little Saint and behind them the two maid girls. The three except for the Saint gasped seeing me standing right in front of them.

"Sa-Saintess... Why are you-"

"You’re finally here, I’ve been waiting." I spoke up interrupting Benedict.

He cleared his throat, "I heard you wished to see the Saint,"

"I did," I smiled and stepped aside letting them in.

They all stepped inside and I kept my eyes trained on Benedict, I could see the Saint fidgeting as he looked at me and then at the High Priest.

"Since you are here as a part of the Temple there are a couple of rules you must follow, Saintess." Benedict spoke up trying to emphasize his authority.

"You are not a simple human now, you are the Saintess acknowledged by the Pope so, you have responsibilities. I hope you respect those responsiblities and fulfill them well. I hope you won’t demand to see the Saint as per your desire whenever you want. He has a schedule and prayer timings that must be met. So, I hope you can-"

His tone and way of speaking irked me, I activated my Dragon’s Presence making his face go pale in an instant. I wasn’t particular not allowed to hide my strength completely.

I could still get burn this whole place down and get my reward but I didn’t want them to be called martyrs or be remembered as the holy people. Their real faces should be exposed to the people who blindly followed them and for that I must hold back till some extent.

Benedict gasped clutching his chest and the Saint looked at him and then at me with wide eyes.

"I shall fulfill my responsibilities well, but I think you have worked more than your age has allowed, High Priest." I spoke looking down on him.

"You two," I looked at the two girls making them flinch.

"Please escort the High Priest to his chambers, I shall have my talk with the Saint till then." I commanded.

"Ye-Yes, Saintess!" The two took Benedict’s arms each and led him out of my room.

I used telekinesis to close the door as soon as they stepped out and inhaled deeply closing my arms as I tried to calm myself.

Just then, I felt something soft collide into my abdomen and I opened my eyes looking down at the child. There was a strange sensation of my mana reacting to his proximity but it wasn’t too much so, I ignored it.

"Thank you! Thank you for coming for me, Lord Dragon!" The boy whimpered.

My eyes softened a bit as my blood seemed to be at ease. There it was, the strange familiarity with this child.

I patted his head softly, he had the light blue hair which was similar to Ocean’s hair color that I had chosen.

"What’s your name?" I asked.

He looked up at me, "Um... I don’t have a name, My Lord."

"No name? These Priests didn’t give you a name?"

"They... They just called me Saint... or..." He hesitated.

"Or?"

He shook his head and then smiled at me brightly.

I activated my Mana Eyes to check his stats but I couldn’t see it, there was something blocking my vision. Just as how his presence seemed so faint that I couldn’t feel him except for his physical body and the slight Mana of his being.

"Why can’t I feel your mana?" I asked and the boy flinched before he retracted his arms from my body and stepped back.

He looked down and fiddled with his fingers and I tilted my head activating Mana Sense.

I felt his faint presence but there was a void that made his presence faint, my eyes drifted down to where this void was the deepest.

"Lift your robe a little," I spoke making the boy flinch.

"Wh-Why?" He asked in a feeble voice.

"Do it." I commanded and he gulped before he clutched the corners of his robe and slowly lifted his robe showing me his ankles.

"Just as I thought." I muttered as I saw the heavy metal cuffs encasing his ankles.

And these were an all too familiar metal, the mana cancelling cuffs.

"Why are you wearing these?" I asked.

The boy fidgeted as he grew panicky and I sighed placing my hand over his shoulder.

"Tell me, so that I could help you."

He shook his head as the tears glistened at the corners of his eyes.

"You can’t tell me?" I asked and he nodded.

"Why? Are you afraid of these humans? Don’t you know who I am?"

His eyebrows furrowed and chin quivered before he looked up at me. Before I could ask him something else, he opened his mouth and pulled his tongue making me almost reel back.

"What the-"
