Chapter 237: 236. Goddess of Life (1)

I was in my room sitting in my chair staring off into the space with my legs crossed and a game of chess in front of me.

Just an hour ago, when I and Lyall had returned from the meeting with Damon we received a news that Asher had disappeared.

Asher was injured when I had seen him last time, but he wasn’t in that bad state that he would die. Did he get eaten by the forest animals?

But there weren’t any high-level predators in the forest to do anything to him, the largest predator in that forest were foxes.

I thought maybe he returned home but he wasn’t there according to my sources, they had dug into it and got to know that Asher hadn’t returned. The household didn’t even know that something had happened in the path and that Mirielle aka I was kidnapped.

I ordered an investigation to look for Asher since I didn’t want to poor guy to be left to die like he was abandoned by his family.

But even after that, I had a bad feeling. It was as if I was forgetting something here. I looked at the chess piece of the white knight in my game as if it would provide me some answer before my eyes fell on another piece and a possibility jumped up.

I hummed thoughtfully before I picked up the white knight.

"Asher Lewinstein... you can’t possibly be in that place, can you?"

The next evening, I was dressed in black pants, with black boots, a navy blue shirt and same colored velvet vest under a long black coat. I had gloves on along with a time piece attached to my coat and the ruby ear stud which was responsible for my current appearance.

I had changed my appearance to black hair and red eyes before adjusting the black mask over my face.

There was a carriage outside which waited for me along with Lyall. I got inside and we set out towards the Temple.

Lyall had briefed me over his previous conversations and I could easily make out how I had to deal with them. These greedy bastards would say yes to practically anything that I offered in exchange for mere words of providing them with what they wanted.

After around two hours, the carriage stopped and Lyall stepped out before me and I followed suit.

The cool, crisp evening air greeted us and I could see the few believers still lingering in the after-hours of the time outside the Temple.

"This way, Master," Lyall said gesturing me towards the grand entrance of the Temple.

This Temple was unlike any other temples that I had seen in the past couple of months, even in Mordino there was none grander than this one building. It seemed like this Temple was built for the sake of providing a haven for all the distressed, at least for the name sake.

A priest stepped down the alabaster steps towards us with his white robes billowing in the wind and a smile on his face.

"Welcome, welcome!" He spoke to Lyall first before his eyes fell on me.

"You-"

"Let’s go inside, I don’t need to introduce myself at this place." I spoke coldly making his smile falter.

"Yes, yes," he said before he gestured us inside.

I walked behind the priest with my hands stuffed in the pockets of my trousers as I climbed the steps.

We entered the main hall which seemed as if it would have its ceiling touch the heavens. There was a ceiling mural as well which had the depictions of Saintess Miella and the Dragons with different colored scales. Among them the ones that caught my attention were the one with blue scales, the one whom I had seen two years ago and the second one, the largest Dragon of all, the Gold Dragon.

This was the Dragon who had sacrificed himself along with the Saintess to seal the doors of the Demon world.

I walked ahead watching the large white statue of the Saintess in prayer and the Gold Dragon who was protecting her. There were the statues of other Dragons as well, placed all the way through the hall.

I stopped before one of them which had the faint bluish hue to it, I stared at its well crafted small body whose eyes seemed to be gazing down on me. I reached out to touch it.

"Master?" I paused and turned to see Lyall and the priest who had stopped a couple of feet away.

I didn’t say anything as I walked behind him and just as we were about to exit the hall, I turned to look at the statues with a silent prayer in my head.

I’ll make sure to settle the score here so that your names won’t be tarnished.

There was a strange thrum in my veins and I felt the surge of power increase in my bloodline as if I was being acknowledged by someone or something far superior to me.

I walked down the open corridor which was filled with the scent of incense and the flowers that were growing outside in the lush garden. The columns that rose from our sides had the carvings of the Dragons, they were quite detailed and finely made that I was quite impressed.

The priest led us till the double wooden doors and knocked on them before he stepped inside for a moment. He stepped out after a couple of seconds and bowed to me gesturing at the doors.

"This is a special prayer room, please enter."

I didn’t pay any heed to him as Lyall pushed open the doors for me and I stepped in with my Dragon’s Presence already whipping around.

There were three people inside, standing in the center of the room with a large statue of the Saintess and Dragon and a low table.

The one among them was wearing a white robe with golden embroidery and a silver chain with the pendant with the crest of the Temple on it.

The other two also seemed quite important seeming officials of the Temple. One of them was a pudgy man with curling mustache and other one was a large man with bulging belly. The High Priest in comparison seemed more fit for a man in his early fifties.

Their faces held the smiles and a glow which made me wonder just what kind of strange thing they had. My Dragon’s Presence was whipping around like crazy with my blood seeming to boil under my skin.

There was a faint scent of something akin to Dragon’s Presence in the air but I couldn’t put my finger on it. It was something very faint but it was there, I could feel its traces but couldn’t pinpoint the source.

"Welcome to the Main Temple of Saintess Miella and the Great Dragons, Lord Ace D’Arc."

The two priests behind bowed but the High Priest didn’t he still stood straight with a smile on his face. It irked me.

I increased my Dragon’s Presence making his smile falter and the color to start draining for his face before he bowed his head. The confusion in his eyes must be because his brain didn’t understand why he bowed but his body did.

"I am the High Priest of the Temple, My Lord, my name is Benedict Lovett." He said and I nodded.

"Let’s get down to business," I spoke up without hearing the introductions of the other two.

The High Priest nodded before he gestured towards the second door which was inside the room. I walked ahead and the door opened in a room which seemed to be a relaxing room with a hearth, armchairs, sofa and coffee table.

"Please have a-"

I sat down before the High Priest could complete and the three looked at me.

Lyall stood behind me without a word and the High Priest and the other Priests sat down as well.

"We heard that you have the rumoured Saintess in your possession," the High Priest started and I smirked.

"Yes, I do."

"Is she really as strong as the Saint?" He asked.

"What’s so special about the Saint whom you always keep behind these walls? She has made a name for herself by travelling for and wide curing hundreds of people." I said as I crossed my legs one over the other.

"Our Saint has the power of curing thirty people at once and that’s why he usually gets weaker and has to be attended that’s why, we keep him indoors." Benedict reasoned and I scoffed.

"My girl can cure around seventy people and have only a little fatigue." I announced making the pudgy man chuckle.

"I can understand the rumors being exaggerated but even you are supporting these nonsensical claims? If she can cure that many people at once then is she a Goddess or something?"

I gave him a sharp look which made him shiver before I spoke up, "I think you didn’t hear the title given to her by the people, ’Goddess of Life’."

The three pursed their lips as my smirk grew.

"You may have a Saint but I have a Goddess."
