Chapter 231: 230. Foolish And Fragile Beings (1)

Damon couldn’t understand what I meant but in the next moment the doors were slammed open and I gasped as I rose to my feet along with Damon.

The fury and rage in the blue orbs that I saw dwindled a little before they turned sharp again watching Damon who stood in front of me.

"Sir Asher," Damon regarded the intruder in a contemptuous tone.

"Miss Mirielle, I’m here. Let’s go back." Asher spoke instead.

"She is not going anywhere with you," Damon answered but it didn’t affect Asher as he stomped towards us.

"Please step aside, Your Grace."

Just then, Alan and Count came up rushing, there were several guards there as well.

"Asher!"

"This little-"

Asher didn’t seem fazed by anything as he glared at Damon.

I knew he had a compulsion of presenting me before the Temple but to this extent?

He stood right in front of Damon who seemed to be shielding me from Asher’s gaze.

"Asher get out right this instant, Miss Mirielle is going nowhere with you!" Alan thundered as he too walked in and stood beside Damon.

Asher pulled out his sword pointing it at Alan and Damon.

"Do you know the consequences of this, Sir Asher?" Damon asked.

"She was abducted from my house and brought all the way here, do you know the consequences of that?" Asher asked as he took a threatening step ahead.

[Goddess of Wisdom is eating popcorn as she enjoys the scene.]

"Give me some, this kind of drama is rare." I thought.

[Defender of Divine Glory sighs at Goddess of Wisdom and your attitudes.]

"If you want some just ask for it, don’t be so uptight."

[Goddess of Wisdom hands some popcorn to Giver of Gifts.]

"See?"

[Defender of Divine Glory accepts the popcorn sent by Goddess of Wisdom.]

I turned my attention back on the men who were fighting for me.

"We all know what you are going to do with her, Asher so, back off." Alan said.

"This precious girl doesn’t deserve to be taken to that corrupted place!" The Count joined in.

Now, there was a wall between me and Asher and I wondered what kind of thoughts went through his mind. These people weren’t going to hand me over easily and Asher also might not back down easily.

"I don’t need you to tell me what to do, step aside!" Asher grunted.

"We won’t! She’s the saviour of our family and I won’t let her be taken by someone like you." The Count announced.

"I don’t want to listen to you all day, Miss Mirielle please come here. Let’s go back." Asher’s tone shifted from when he was talking to his interferences and then to me.

Damon looked back at me as if asking what he should do now and I held the expression of worry and hesitation. He had to figure it out himself here.

He clenched his teeth and glared back at Asher.

"It’s better if you return Sir Asher. Miss Mirielle will not become a pawn in the Temple’s game." Damon said and I almost rolled my eyes.

Asher didn’t seem like he cared about the Duke as he stepped ahead and slashed making the three men step away. His gaze finally met mine and he went right in to grab my hand but was met by a blade which blocked him.

It was the Count.

He had pulled out a sword from somewhere.

"I will not let the Temple destroy this child’s life. It had already made me suffer a lot." The Count growled as he kept standing in front of me.

"Miss Mirielle has nothing to do with you, stay away from this!" Asher sneered before he shoved the Count out of the way and Alan suddenly held my wrist pulling me away.

"Guards what are you waiting for? Get this man out of here!" He shouted at the guards who were at the doorway.

The guards hesitate a little before they charged towards him. But they couldn’t last before the Captain of the Templar knights and Alan grimaced as he took the sword from his father standing in the front.

Asher slashed at Alan who blocked the attack with ease and the two started fighting while Damon also charging in.

"Miss Mirielle, please come this way, I’ll bring you to safety." The Count said as he placed his hand on my arm.

"We cannot let this madman take you."

I looked back at Asher who was fighting against Alan and Damon together, he seemed to be in a crazy mode with his reasoning side momentarily shut out. If he went on then he might end up killing his brother and the Duke.

As dramatic as it was, I thought it was time to end it.

"No, My Lord." I said as I brushed the Count’s hand off of mine.

"I cannot let you all get hurt because of me." I said in a cracking voice.

"But, you-"

"I shall go with Sir Asher." I said and he gripped my elbow.

"The Temple is the place where I wouldn’t even send my enemies, Miss Mirielle. Please, listen to me and escape!" He insisted and I shook my head.

"If Sir Asher is not stopped then he might end up hurting His Grace and Young Master Alan and I couldn’t live with that guilt." I spoke with the tears glistening at the corners of my eyes and the Count pressed his lips in a thin line.

I brushed his hand off of my arm before I stepped towards the fighting trio.

"Sir Asher!" I called making his head turn and his gaze found home on me. Alan found his chance and slashed at Asher’s left arm, leaving behind a huge gash.

Asher was about to lash out at his opponents but I added ahead to stop him as the scent of his blood was becoming thick in the air.

"Please stop all this, I’ll go with you!" I shouted making the other two pause as well.

"What?! No!" Alan shouted.

"You don’t know what you’re saying, Miss." Damon spoke up.

I clasped my hands at my chest as I sniffed.

"I cannot let others get hurt for me, please."

[Goddess of Wisdom is hiding her face in second-hand embarrassment.]

"It’s embarrassing for me as well!"

Asher’s posture relaxed and he walked past Alan and Damon straight towards me and the Count stepped in again making Asher glare at him.

"I regret giving birth to you." He said.

I saw something cross over Asher’s face, it was a fleeting shadow of some shadow before it was gone. He reached out and grasped my wrist before tugging me to his side.

Without a word, he turned and started tugging me away. Asher stopped suddenly and I looked at Angelina who stood at the doorway with a shawl wrapped around her shoulders.

She wasn’t strong enough to move about.

"Miss Angelina-" I gasped and she swung her arm and slapped Asher across the face.

"How could such a vile person be born to our mother?" She asked.

Her face was a mask of contempt and her eyes blazed with hatred.

"Let go of her." She demanded but Asher didn’t let go.

"Let go of her!" She shouted but Asher still didn’t listen.

I saw Angelina trembling as she grew angrier.

"You monster!" She shouted.

"You took away my mother and now you’re taking away the person who saved me and my babies!" She swung her arm slapping him again.

I saw his eyes go wide for a moment as he heard that and Angelina’s angry tears started flowing down her cheeks.

"Angelina!" The Count and Alan rushed by her side as she continued hitting Asher while screaming profanities at him.

Asher kept his head down as she kept shouting at him his fingers still gripping my wrist with no intention of letting go.

"Why didn’t you die instead of mother?!" Angelina shouted before she started hyperventilating while clutching her chest and I gasped.

She fell to her knees and the Count and Alan crouched near her with panicked gazes.

"Angelina!"

"Angelina, what’s wrong?"

"Miss Mirielle!"

I rushed ahead with Asher still clutching my wrist and Angelina fell unconscious before I held her hand.

"Sh-She’s unconscious." I whispered making the two men look at me and then glare up at Asher.

"You-"

The Count rose to his feet with full intentions of hitting Asher but Alan gripped his arm.

"Father!"

"This runt! Why did Denise have to die for something like you?!" He shouted.

Asher remained silent and I could feel his arms trembling.

Damon also came up beside them, his eyes stayed on me for majority of the time while I kept my facade of a fragile and self-sacrificing lady.

"Why do you want to take her to the Temple so desperately? Isn’t the Saint enough?" Damon asked.

"I’m not taking her to the Temple." Asher spoke up.

I looked at him slightly confused as I got to my feet.

"What?" Damon asked.

"I... am simply taking her back." Asher said.

"If you are taking her back then it’s better to just send her back home where her family is." Alan said.

I felt Asher’s grip tighten a little.

"I can’t,"

"Why?"

Asher didn’t say anything and the Count who was glaring at him spoke up.

"Get out of my sight right this instant! Get out!" The Count shouted.

Asher moved ahead and took me with him. Alan and the Count glared at him while I gave Damon a subtle nod signalling him the beginning of the next phase of my plan.
