Chapter 232: 231. Foolish and Fragile Beings (2)
Asher’s left arm was bleeding from the deep gash, I tugged at his right arm which was holding me.
"Sir Asher, your arm is bleeding!" I spoke up but he didn’t stop.
He led me all the way out of the Lewinstein mansion and I saw his horse who trodded back to his Master from where it had gone to graze in the garden.
"Sir Asher!" I spoke a bit louder and he stood as he reached in front of his horse.
He turned to me and I placed his hands on my waist before plucking me off the ground. I was placed on the horseback and Asher climbed on after me.
I looked at the Lewinstein mansion personnel along with Alan, the Count and Damon standing there looking at us.
The scent of Asher’s blood was starting to clog in my nostrils and I sighed before I placed my hand over his bleeding gash and healed his arm.
Asher didn’t make any indication of being fazed by it as we rode all the way back towards his manor.
"Sir Asher?" I spoke looking up at him but he had a blank expression with thinly pressed lips.
I didn’t say anything as I sat stiffly for all the way. Once we reached at the manor he helped me down and the maids who were waiting while being worried ushered me inside asking if I was all right or not.
Asher didn’t come to see me for the rest of the evening and I plopped on my bed feeling good to be back on track.
"... Reina? Reina?" I heard a familiar voice and I plucked off the communication brooch attached to my dress.
"I’m here, Uncle."
"How are you?"
"I’m good,"
"How’s the plan going?"
I hummed, "There was a bit of a hitch before but now I’m back on track."
"Have you infiltrated the Temple yet?"
"No, not yet. But the man who would bring me there is in my hands, I’ll be there soon."
"Is there anything else?" He asked.
I chuckled, "I’m sure you don’t have any ears here, Uncle. Still, how could you know if I have created any scene here?"
"So you have." He sighed.
"It was a necessary action, I had to do it to save the kid."
"Kid?"
"The Saint."
"The Saint?!"
I told Silas everything that had happened in the meanwhile, about the attack on Saint, about my brief stay at Lewinstein and their family drama before I stopped at the present.
"And now, I’m back here. Hopefully, he will have to present me before the Temple soon."
The line was silent for a moment, making me wonder if Uncle had fallen asleep while listening.
"Uncle? Don’t tell me you fell asleep." I spoke and heard a deep sigh.
"Do... you even understand what situation you’re in right now?" He asked and I frowned.
"Yes,"
"I find that hard to believe." He said and I sighed shaking my head.
"I’m here handling things, Uncle. I know what situation I’m in."
"You may be handling things there, Reina but you don’t understand the human heart. Do you really think that knight will take you to the Temple?"
"He has to."
Another sigh, "I am sure he might be thinking of ways to not send you there."
"Hah?!"
"Have you not realised it yet?"
"Realise what?"
"You said he went to his father’s house where he was insulted in the worst way possible and stood up against them just to take you back. And you even said that he seemed as if he had gone to take you without resting at his place after returning from the Temple. What does that mean?"
"That he was desperate to have me back in his sights." I answered.
"Maybe it’s the problem,"
"What?"
"Your brain and your Dragon nature is hindering you from see the other person’s emotions."
"Are you saying I’m insensitive?"
"Are you not?"
"Ah... Well, I am... sort of."
"That knight is in love with you, Reina." Silas said and I rolled my eyes.
"And here I thought what I was missing." I sighed, "Thanks for telling me the obvious, Uncle."
"You know that and yet you believe that he will take you to the Temple?"
"He has to, he has no other choice." I shrugged.
Silas released another sigh, "Reina... do you know anything about a person in love?"
"Yes, those people are extremely foolish and easy to manipulate."
"I swear, I can’t..."
"Well, even you can’t tell me about the love stuff, Uncle. You’ve been a bachelor for all your life."
"We’re talking about you right now, Reina. And must I remind you, you’re only 12!"
"I remember, don’t worry about me catching any feelings."
"I’m more worried about that man, Reina. If he is in love with you then he will not take you to the Temple!"
I sat up frowning, "I can debate you over that, Uncle. Between duty and love, if he would choose anything that it is duty."
"And how can you be so sure? Everyone doesn’t work according to how you work."
"No, but I know he does."
"All right, let me explain you like this." He started.
"If Rune was in trouble on the battlefield right now, would you abandon your plan and rush to his help?"
"Why are you asking the obvious, Uncle?"
"Do you realise why?"
"Because he’s my brother and my family!"
"And also because you love him, Reina. You love your brother that is why even before he went for the war you made all the preparations for him to return safely and victorious. Now, imagine you in the place of that knight, would you let Rune into a place like that Temple where you know you won’t be able to protect him?"
I clenched my jaw and my fist, "That knight might be the one to know what the reality of the Temple is so, would he let you be taken there if he loves you?"
I fell silent as I contemplated his words, it was true that you would never push your loved ones in a place where they would suffer. I would never imagine letting my people in any sort of danger so, if was obvious that Asher might also be having these kinds of thoughts.
"Reina? Are you there?"
"Yes... I was thinking about what you said."
"I’m sure you would have another way of entering the Temple but be careful of that knight. If he is in love then he might try his best to hinder your plan of infiltrating and he would keep an eye on you which would restrict your movements."
Right... We would always be aware of what your loved ones would be doing because our eyes would inadvertently move to them even in the crowd of hundreds. So, at this point, my key to the Temple as well as my biggest hindrance would be none other than Asher.
"Please think of a way of handling him, it could be tricky."
"I understand."
Suddenly, it didn’t feel as smooth a ride as I was thinking a while ago.
"Ah, things just keep getting complicated!" I groaned.
"It’s fine, I know you will handle it well." Silas assured me.
"I will." I confirmed.
I heard a soft chuckle from his side and asked, "How are you, Uncle?"
"Same as always,"
"And how’s everything else?"
"Again, the same. Your Grandfather is handling the matters at the royal palace well and also the rift that you had created in between the King and Queen is growing. Viscount Jordan was accused of treason."
"What?"
"Yes, I got to know from your sources that the King caught him smuggling information and accused him of trying to poison his medicines and had him arrested."
"Eh? It happened quicker than I thought, I did expect him to take an action sooner or later but taking Viscount Jordan at this point is a bit..."
"I know, Viscount’s whole family will be facing execution within this week."
I couldn’t help but frown a little as I thought of something, "What was the information that Viscount was smuggling?"
"Ah... I haven’t got a hold of that information."
"Getting rid of the Viscount in such a rush is suspicious, Uncle. The information must have been of the importance to invoke such a reaction."
Silas hummed thoughtfully on the other side before he replied, "I’ll look into it."
"No wait," I said.
"Hm?"
"Let it be, don’t get the sources moving in that direction. If the King got rid of Viscount Jordan just for the sake of this information then it might be something lethal. I don’t want to lose my people. Let it be. I’ll look after it when I return." I instructed.
I didn’t want my people to lose their heads and the King to grow suspicious of me just when things were moving well.
"All right, as you say." He said making me hum.
"What about Father?" I asked.
"How do you want him to be when his son is on the battlefield and daughter in an enemy country?"
"Take care of him please." I said.
"I will do what I could,"
I hummed a little before I looked out of the window.
"I’ll talk to you later then," he said and I hummed.
"Yes, good night, Uncle."
"Good night, Reina."
I watched as the glow of the communication brooch grew dull and I sighed. I might have to think of a way of handling Asher before he could become a hindrance for me.
