The Kingmaker System
Chapter 230 - 229. Fragile Beings (2)

Chapter 230: 229. Fragile Beings (2)

The Count and Alan were shell-shocked seeing Angelina healthy and well after giving birth, unlike the diagnosis of the doctor there was no death. Angelina slept peacefully after giving birth and the babies were once again examined by the doctor who gave confirmation that they were healthy and fine.

I looked at the two babies that were now placed in the cradle sleeping peacefully together.

"Humans are quite fragile beings..."

Their faces were pink and their heads were small enough to fit in the palm of my hand. I could crush them with ease.

My eyes went slightly wide as that thought popped into my head and I sighed brushing my fingers over their plump cheeks wondering how close to death they were with just me standing here like this. I was their saviour but my brain was starting to become more like a Dragon, I was looking down on humans already but now I was even finding them fragile enough to crush.

[Dragon Bloodline assimilation completed by 54%.]

Even the system was unhinged, I guess.

But there was still a long way to go before I could 100 % assimilate with the Dragon’s bloodline. I wondered what requirements were there for this assimilation to happen quickly.

It was getting triggered whenever I took a dip in water, some sort of fresh waterbody or something and also with these kind of inhumane thoughts.

[Defender of Divine Glory corrects it by saying that the system judges you based on how you start to see yourself.]

"I don’t understand."

[Goddess of Wisdom tells you that you will figure it out with time.]

"There you go, not giving me any proper explanation for stuff that I actually should know about!"

They fell silent after that and I sighed watching the two babies sleeping peacefully.

"Miss Mirielle?" I turned my head fixing my gaze on Count Lewinstein.

His usual stoic expression had shed away leaving behind the gratitude that he felt towards me.

I put on the act again as I smiled, "They’re really beautiful babies."

[Goddess of Wisdom reminds you that you just thought about crushing their heads.]

"Shut it, please."

The tears were glistening at the corner of his eyes and I walked up to him and Alan. Angelina also had the expression of gratitude which I had started getting used to since I’ve been going around saving lives here and there for the past month.

Denril should put on my Temple. Or at least give me an award for my acting.

For a person who was going to destroy a huge part of this nation they sure owed me a lot.

"We cannot express in words what you’ve done for us." The Count grasped my hands and I smiled.

"As a Healer it was my duty, My Lord. I couldn’t let My Lady and those who innocent souls suffer like that."

They thanked me for a while before I excused myself and after giving Angelina a smile I left the room. The maids and other servants who were gathered at the doorway watched me with awe as I passed by them.

Once inside my room, I released a deep sigh and plopped over my bed.

I was supposed to be in Temple right now but this wasn’t bad. I would have one more pawn to make my plan complete.

Besides, Damon must be on his way here now and even Asher would have got to know that I wasn’t in his manor anymore.

The next day, I had summoned a storm again to give the Lewinstein family another reason to keep me at their place. And poor Damon had to come in that weather all the way to the Lewinstein mansion even if it was way past midnight.

When he’d arrived he looked more like a drowned rat than the Duke of the nation.

I sat in my room hearing the conversation that the Count and the Duke were having.

"We must bring her on our side, Your Grace!" The Count insisted.

"Yes, Your Grace. I know Asher would bring her to the Temple and then she would also be dragged into their conspiracies. We cannot let that happen to Miss Mirielle!" Alan said.

"I understand your concerns but, we cannot just force her to stay here, if anything we would have to tell her about the situation if we want her to be on our side and do our bidding." Damon said and I nodded.

"It would still seem like we’re using her for our benefit."

"And the Temple wouldn’t sit quietly with us having a strong Healer on our side."

"That’s right, they will do anything they could to have the Saintess on their side. They already have the Saint, if they get their hands of Miss Mirielle as well then we could forget about reclaiming our power, Your Grace!"

Damon was quiet while the father and son kept pressing on their point and I wondered when he would ask for a personal audience with me. I was waiting to talk.

"May I talk with the Lady once?"

There it is!

The two fell silent for a while before they agreed but since it was quite late, the meeting was arranged for the next day.

I sat by the window watching the thunder crackling loudly before smirking. If not for Asher then, Damon could do his work properly.

Besides, I wondered what happened to the Saint kid. I did promise him that I would be there for him soon but, why was he would need my help?

That kid was being supported by the Pope and he was practically worshipped by the masses of Denril then what was the problem?

I guess, I would get my answers once I infiltrated the Temple.

The next morning, I was told about the Duke of Denril wanting to meet me. I acted surprised and also a bit worried as being a noblewoman from countryside, it was only natural that I wouldn’t be used to meeting such a high ranking noble.

"Don’t be worried, My Lady. He just wants to talk to you about a couple of things and if you feel uncomfortable then, you could just tell him that." Alan assured me.

"B-But he’s the Duke, how could I possibly..." I shuddered making him smile.

"Please trust me, My Lady. You have been doing such a great thing by helping others and the Duke wants to thank you for that." He said and I looked at him with my eyes going wide and doe-like.

He gulped, "I-I shall ask His Grace to be gentle and kinder towards you..."

"I-I guess it can’t be helped then," I smiled shakily and he looked a bit relieved but also guilty.

"Then, please, come. I’ll escort you." He said presenting me his hand.

I placed my hand in his and he led me towards the parlor.

He knocked on the door before announcing my presence and then looked once at me.

"It’ll be all right," he whispered before he gestured for me to enter.

I walked inside the room and saw a maid pouring tea for Damon who sat on the couch waiting for me.

"Please leave the room," he ordered the maid and she bowed before him.

She gave me a smile before she left the room and once the door was closed behind me, my facade dropped.

I strode up to the sofa in front of Damon and plopped down while he stood up.

"Good morning, Master." He bowed politely with a greeting and I sighed.

"Morning, Damon. Have a seat." I said and he sat back down.

"How are things going on your side?" I asked.

"I am doing what you ordered," he replied and looked at me as I relaxed in my seat with my foot crossed on over the other and a tea cup in my hand.

"M-May I ask why you’re here, Master?" He asked hesitantly.

"Asher is caught up with something at the temple and in the meanwhile, Alan brought me here with a promise that he’ll send me back home." I chuckled.

Damon blinked before he relaxed a little, "What are you planning to do ahead?"

"Enter the Temple somehow,"

"But if Sir Asher isn’t the one to help you enter the Temple then, are you planning on going to the Temple by yourself? Or with the nobles’ influence perhaps?"

He was smarter than I thought.

"It would be the best case scenario if Asher was the one to get me there but, since I don’t know what he’s up to do, I can’t be sure. There are a bit complications if I use your side because I’ll be suspected to be your spy or something."

"Then, what do you propose?" He asked and I shrugged my shoulders.

"I don’t know,"

He blinked with his eyebrows jumping as he heard me say that.

"B-But then how... will you destroy the Temple?"

"That’s my problem, isn’t it?" I asked meeting his gaze and he looked down, nodding.

"Yes, I’m sorry."

"I’ll handle the infiltration, you take care of what you’re supposed to, do you understand?" I asked.

"Yes, Master."

I was going through the plan with him when I heard the commotion going outside.

"What’s the matter, Master?" Damon asked and I couldn’t help the smirk that overtook my features making him shudder.

"The key to Temple is here."

Humans were really fragile and foolish beings.
