Chapter 228: 227. Two Sides Of The Same Coin (4)

The carriage stopped in front of a large manor and Alan got out giving me a hand, I looked up at the large building before he gestured me to come along.

The butler walked out and got confused to see me.

"Bring the lady’s luggage inside to the guest room on second floor." Alan ordered and the butler bowed before he stole a glance at me.

I walked behind Alan who went straight towards the manor, he told the Head Butler who greeted him inside to lead me up to the guest room.

He then turned to me.

"Please rest in for tonight, I’ll arrange for your departure within two days."

The Head Butler did as he was told and on my way, I saw the other servants look at me with curiosity and awe.

I was left in my room with two maids who were going to serve me till the time I was there.

I sat in the room by the window watching the sky while focusing on the movements going on in the house. I had my eyes closed and ears perked up with my Mana Sense already enveloping the mansion like a veil.

"Who is that girl?"

"I heard Young Master Alan brought her from Young Master Asher’s manor."

"Is she perhaps Young Master Asher’s..."

"Why is that girl in this house, Alan?" I stopped there and focused my attention on this conversation.

"Because she is innocent and I’m afraid she will end up becoming the Temple’s pawn if left with Asher."

"We had broken all ties with him, Alan. You going there and bringing that girl wasn’t the right thing."

"I have brought her here to arrange her trip back home, Father."

"And what if Asher or the Temple intervenes into bringing her back again?"

There was a moment of silence and I heard a sigh.

"It is a big decision to get involved in this matter, Alan. We don’t know what the Temple wants to do with her or if they had already decided to make her join."

"If she was at Asher’s place then he might have already decided to make her join." Alan said.

"It is still beyond our power to keep her with us if she really is a strong healer. The temple would try to claim her at all costs and that might even threaten lives here." The Count’s words were grim but they were true.

It was dangerous to keep me if the Temple wanted me. They would go to any lengths to have me, even if that meant sacrificing a couple of lives.

"Then, should we involve His Grace into this?" Alan asked.

"And tell him what? That we have an innocent healer here who the Temple wants?"

"Yes,"

Another sigh.

"I don’t think it’s only that, Father. Please think about it, that girl was traveling alone and healing people. I did hear about the rumors of a girl who was as strong of a healer as the Saint, and as per her story she seems to the be the girl from the rumors."

"A healer as strong as Saint..." The Count contemplated.

"That girl is called the Saintess, Father. She might be the answer that we have been looking for since all this time." Alan said and I smirked.

There was a moment of silence between the two and I waited until the Count spoke up.

"But you have brought her here and told her that you will help her return home."

"I’ll solve that problem," I smiled as I used the ability to create storms and the wind outside picked pace and the thick clouds started gathering.

"I’ll make some excuse into stopping her for the time being." Alan said and the windows of the room rattled.

"What... What just..." The two men gasped and I smiled.

"An untimely storm?"

"The weather was clear up till now..."

"We could use this storm to delay her departure."

"I hope this storm stays for a while."

I nodded and then the two continued making plans.

"I’ll send a message to His Grace right away telling him about this matter and ask him if he could come as soon as possible." The Count said.

"But in this weather..."

"With our condition, we cannot be stopped by this storm, Alan."

"I understand, Father."

"Also, check on Angelina’s condition."

"Has she not eaten yet?"

I tilted my head to one side, I did sense a presence cooped in a room but I didn’t know that it was Angelina.

"She says it’s difficult for her to swallow anything and she vomits anything she manages to eat."

The two released deep sighs and there is silence again.

"... Should I ask her to check on Angelina?" Alan asked.

There was a silence from Count’s side and I waited for him to speak. If Angelina’s condition was that bad then she needed me to look at her once.

"Wait till His Grace is here, after that... we’ll decide."

"But what if His Grace decides to take her with him?" Alan said.

"We’re already using her as a pawn for our advantage, Alan. Let her not know of this,"

"But what if we tell her that she needs to stay in order to heal, Angelina?" Alan asked and I cocked my brow.

"What?"

"The storm might stop in a couple of hours Father after that what reason would we use for her to stay?"

"... All right, do as you feel right... But under no circumstances are you putting your sister’s and her child’s life in danger."

My eyebrows furrowed as he said that, I did know that Angelina was married but she was also pregnant and here of all places. Did she have some complications with her pregnancy?

"I understand that, Father."

I waited for their conversation to end before there was a knock on the door and I sensed one of the maids who was assigned to me standing outside.

I walked over to the door pulling back my Mana Sense before opening the door.

"My Lady, My Lord has summoned you for dinner," she said politely and I smiled.

"All right, so, will you please help me change?" I asked and she nodded before she entered the room.

She helped me change into another dress and I contemplated over my next move. Damon would come running here once he comes to know that I was here and I could start preparing for entering into the Temple as per "his" plan.

"Sally," I spoke making the maid look at me.

"Yes, My Lady?" She asked.

"For how long have you been working here?"

"For around seven years, My Lady."

"You’ve been here for quite long." I grinned and she smiled back.

"Yes, well..."

"Are you married?" I asked.

Her cheeks tinted pink, "Yes, I just got married last year."

"How nice!"

She smiled, "What about you?"

"Eh? I haven’t even had my debutante yet," I said and she gasped stopping in her tracks.

"Pardon?"

"Yes, I’m 16 so, I am yet to have my debutante."

"Y-You are only 16?" He asked and I tilted my head to one side.

"Is there something wrong?"

She stared at me before she pursed her lips and reached out taking my hands in hers.

"I’m so sorry for you, My Lady."

What?

"Why?"

"I heard that you set out to heal the infected people and also that you were attacked." She said with her eyes growing teary.

"Sally!" I gasped as I squeezed her hands.

"I am fine, Sir Asher and my knight were there to protect me."

She shook her head, "But My Lady, you had to go through so much!"

I smiled as I wrapped my arms around her patting her back. I wouldn’t understand how these women could become so empathetic over some other person’s suffering. Though I didn’t suffer at all.

She settled down after a couple of minutes with her cheeks flushed and eyes puffed.

I gently wiped the tears from her cheeks and she sniffled before smiling.

"I’m sorry for crying like this, th-the thing is... my sister is the same age as you so... I can’t even imagine her going through the things you went through."

I smiled at her before patting her shoulder.

"I am fine, Sally. Saintess Miella’s and the Dragon’s blessings were with me all the time."

She smiled at me before she led me towards the dining hall.

There were two men already there waiting for me. The Count whom I hadn’t physically met yet and Alan.

I curtsied before them gracefully, "I’m Mirielle Clarkson, daughter of Earl Clarkson. It’s nice to be in your presence Count Lewinstein. Also, I’m sorry for being late."

The Count seemed like he was in his late fifties with his blonde hair having streaks of grey hair and eyes assessing me carefully.

I kept my smile intact as I turned my gaze on Alan before the Count stood up.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Mirielle." He said with a bow.

"I am Count Jaden Lewinstein."
