Chapter 220: 219. Templar Knights (4)
A week had passed by since Lyall left to carry out his task with Duke Damon while I was travelling with the Templar knights in a comfortable temple’s carriage.
Sir Asher seemed to be a bit more indulging that before as he would let me interact with the villagers and the townsfolk that approached me and watch over me as I healed them.
Thanks to his watchful gaze on me, I couldn’t find enough time to collect information or do anything on my own except for at nights when I had a separate room.
Another week passed by and now we were close to the capital and there weren’t any infected people anymore. But as we passed through the towns, I cleansed the air in case the infection bacteria was in the air.
The capital was only a couple of days away and we had to cross the forest to reach the town closer to it.
"It’s late, we should make a camp here tonight." I heard the knight’s discussing outsidebas I lounged in my comfy seat inside the carriage.
There was a knock on the door and I sat up pushing the curtains aside and saw Sir Asher standing there.
"Miss Mirielle, it’s getting quite late so, we have decided to camp out here for tonight and move the next morning." He informed me and I nodded.
"All right, I understand."
He smiled before saying, "We’ll set up the tents then, please rest here for the time being."
I nodded and he left after a giving me a brief glance. He was infatuated with me and it was obvious by the way he acted smitten often times and it was clear to the other knights as well. But then again, I wouldn’t blame him. Ocean’s female form was as attractive as his make form if not more.
After a while of waiting, I stepped out to see a couple of tents erected in the small clearing with the bonfire burning and the smell of the food wafting in the air.
"Please come this way, Miss Mirielle," Sir Nate said, he was a part of Sir Asher’s team.
He led me towards the tent which was erected in the very center, surrounded by the other tents.
I entered the tent to find a small bed inside with a chair and table along with the oil lamp.
"Please take some rest, Captain told me to ask you to wait till the dinner is ready." He said.
"All right, thank you." I smiled at him making him stare at me for a moment before he bowed and left with red cheeks.
I looked at the communication brooch that was attached to my dress and wondered if Lyall had reached the Duke’s territory safely. I still hadn’t reported back to Silas about my whereabouts so he must be worried too.
"Miss Mirielle?" I turned my head to look at Sir Asher who had appeared at the doorway of my tent.
"What’s the matter, Sir Asher?"
"Um... We have been travelling for two days straight so, you haven’t had time to freshen up." He seemed a bit hesitant as he added, "there is a lake nearby so, would you like to go and have a bath?"
I smiled, "Thank you, I really needed a bath."
He smiled though a bit bashful, he nodded, "Please gather your things, I shall lead you to that lake."
"All right!"
I grabbed a towel and another dress before we set out, Asher led me towards the woods. We followed the dirt path before I could see the crystal clear Lake shrouded by the thicket.
In a couple of minutes, we were facing the lake which sparkled like a mirror.
"Wow..." I gasped.
"I-I will be at a distance till you bath," he said and I nodded.
"Thank you, Sir Asher."
I stripped and quickly entered the water, it was quite cool and relaxing to be submerged underwater.
I swam underwater for a while before I turned to look at Sir Asher who was at some distance facing away.
It was a hassle to act all kind and innocent when I was nothing like that but then again, these fools were easy to manipulate for the time being.
After a while of swimming, I got out and dried myself off before putting the clean clothes.
"Sir Asher?" I called and the man stood up before turning to face me.
"Are you done?" He asked as he walked towards me and I smiled.
"Yes,"
We started hearing back and I could feel his eyes on me.
"Miss Mirielle?" He spoke up and I hummed.
"How old are you?"
"16." His eyebrows shot up.
"Y-You are that young?" He gasped.
I’m 12, to be precise. But you don’t need to know that.
"I’m not that young!"
"Yes, but," he paused for a moment before he sighed.
"You might not even had your debutante yet." He spoke and I smiled.
"Yes, I haven’t yet."
He stared at me for a moment before he sighed, "You’re really reckless, Miss Mirielle."
"Heh?"
He smiled, "And also quite admirable."
I chuckled, "Thank you."
The number of times Inhad been smiling before these people if I only did that for one day at my place then those people would be convinced that I was an imposter.
"What are you thinking?" He asked.
"Nothing much... I was just hoping that Sir Zoro would reach back home safely."
A flash of bitterness crossed Asher’s face before it disappeared.
"He must have reached safely." He assured me and I smiled.
"Yes, hopefully, father won’t be too mad at him for returning alone."
"I’m sure, he won’t be mad." Asher quickly said.
"How old is Sir Zoro?" He asked.
"Hm? Around 32 years old."
Asher gasped and frowned, "Have you been travelling with him alone for all these days then?"
"Hm? Yes,"
His lips thinned and eyes grew tight.
"He often told me about his wife and daughter while we used to miss home." I added making Asher’s expression relax.
"He is married?"
"Yes! His daughter is only 10 years old and she’s so adorable!"
Asher chuckled a little before he turned his head and then cleared his throat.
"Miss Mirielle... Are you perhaps engaged?" He asked then and I turned away to hide my rolling of eyes.
"Um... Father has looked for a match but I am not sure yet."
"Your father has?"
"Yes."
"Who is he?"
"A merchant,"
"What’s his name?"
Asher was pressing quite a bit too much into it but then again, it wasn’t like he could do anything here.
"I can’t tell you his name,"
"Why?"
"Because my father is the one who is looking in this matter so, I..."
I shrugged my shoulders and Asher observed me for a while before he sighed.
We reached back at the campsite and after a while we had dinner before most of the knights retired to the tents while the others stayed away to keep watch.
"Good night, Miss Mirielle!"
"Good night, Miss Mirielle."
"Good night!"
I waved at them before I entered my tent and my smile dropped as well as my shoulders. The facade of a good girl was hard to keep.
I walked over to the bed and lay on it holding the communication device to my chest while staring up at the ceiling which was visible in the dim glow of the oil lamp.
After a couple of hours, I heard a voice calling for me.
"Master?"
I quickly sat up holding the device to my mouth.
"Lyall, have you reached?" I asked.
"Yes, Master. I have also sent the information about the Saint through a raven, it’ll probably reach you in two days." He responded in a low voice.
"That’s good," I said, "You didn’t encounter any problems while entering the capital, right?"
"No, Master, the Duke had made preparations for me to enter."
"Good, good. So, how’s he doing?" I asked.
"He’s been doing as you instructed."
"That’s good," I sighed, "You know what to do from your side, right?"
"Yes, Master."
"Good, make sure to carry out your task properly and safely, all right?"
"Yes, Master."
The light glow of the communication device magic stone dulled before it returned to it dormant state and I sighed.
"Well, at least he reached there safely." I mumbled before I focused my mana into the stone again this time to contact my uncle.
"Uncle?" I called.
"Uncle, are you there?"
"Reina!" I heard Silas gasp and I smiled.
"How are you, uncle?" I asked.
"I’m fine, now that you’ve finally contacted me." He sighed deeply and I chuckled.
"Don’t laugh!"
"All right, I’m sorry. But I’ve entered the first stage of my plan." I informed him.
"You already infiltrated the temple?!" He gasped loudly.
"No, but the Templar knights found me, I will soon be in the capital and considering my potential they wouldn’t not want me." I said as I kept an eye on my surroundings to check if someone was eavesdropping or something.
"I don’t know if I should feel relieved or worried."
"Fell relieved, sounds good."
"Reina!" He spoke sternly and I sighed.
"I’m serious, feel relieved, the sooner I finish my work here the sooner I’ll be able to return home."
"Hopefully," he sighed.
"How is Father doing?"
"He’s doing well enough, better than how he was doing before you recovered."
"Will you stop taunting my father whenever you get a chance, Uncle?" I chided.
"No,"
"What about your father?"
"He’s keeping the royals in check as usual, but I don’t think there’s anything to report from the royal family."
"No, yes, how’s the relation between the Golden Serpent and her husband?" I asked.
"... I don’t know,"
"Uncle," I spoke up, "it’s important to keep an eye on their relationship. It should be broken if I want to render them powerless."
"I understand, I’ll gather information and let you know."
"Any update from the battlefield?"
"Nothing new, your brother and others are faring well on their own."
"That’s great!"
"How about you?" I asked.
"Me?... I’m working on researching about the black fluid and the strange design that you brought me from Mordino."
"Did you find something?"
"Not yet,"
I sighed, "All right,"
"You should get some rest now," he said.
"I will, but I’m more worried about you."
"Me?"
"Yes, my handsome uncle will lose his beauty if he doesn’t rest well."
Silas coughed on the other side making me laugh.
"Good night, Reina."
"Good night, Uncle."
The magic stone’s glow dulled and I sighed watching it for a moment feeling better after talking to him.
Hopefully, the Temple’s business would be taken care of soon.
