Chapter 189: 188. My Successor (5)
Enora led the reinforcement team that I brought towards the deeper part of the forest that was drenched in the midnight darkness. For a normal eye, it was impossible to make out what was going on but considering most of the people around were either used to the darkness or were close enough to my side they were managing to not trip or bump into any trees.
"Be careful." I spoke.
"This place is pitch black." Lady Dahlia mumbled.
"I can barely see anything,"
"Focus on my hair," I said.
I had let my hood down so that my the vibrant color of my hair would stand out in the darkness and become a beacon for those behind me.
"You’ll attract the enemies too." Roan said
"That would be easier."
We stopped in front of the gorge as Enora also came to a stop and I looked around.
"This was the place where we last saw them and Young Master Drac." Enora said.
"They all went on the other side and Young Master Drac followed them, most of us were injured so, we couldn’t follow them. And even Lyall and others must have gone searching for another route since it’s impossible to go from this path."
Roan walked ahead and peeked down from the gorge into the darkness where the sound of the river rushing was audible.
"It’s too deep."
"Look for Lyall and others tell them to stay back, I’ll go and get Drac."
"Wait, you’re going to fight those monsters on your own?" Roan asked as I stepped ahead staring straight at the other side.
"It won’t take long if I go myself."
"Are you trying to say that we’ll hold you back?" Lady Dahlia asked as she stood beside me.
"We came along to aid you and that doesn’t mean we’ll stay back and wait for you to do it all on your own." Sir Adler said as he took stepped up.
"Guess, we’re all on the same page," Roan announced making me sigh.
"Enora," I spoke up.
"Yes, Master."
"Look for Lyall and others, I and my current team will go and get Drac." I corrected.
"Yes, Master." Enora gave me a slight bow before I looked at my new enthusiastic team.
I used telekinesis to help us cross the deep gorge and we landed on the other side with ease.
I took the lead this time as I could somehow sense the foreign presences about a few hundred meters ahead of me. I hadn’t felt such a presence before but somehow I could assume that my thinking was right and I had just stumbled upon something even stranger than the fact that Drac of all people got kidnapped.
"What’s this feeling?" Lady Dahlia noticed it first as soon as we entered their area.
My Dragon’s Presence created a vortex around us covering those with me into a protective layer of sorts.
"Be alert." I warned as I came to a stop when I realised that those presences were heading straight for us.
Lady Dahlia held out her spear while Sir Adler and Roan unsheathed their swords. I stood in the front sensing the pulsing mana in the air before the entities landed in front of me.
Cloaked into the darkness blacker than the night and with their mana of the same dark shade, I could see that my assumption was correct.
There were five figures in total who stood in front of me, their black clothes and dark skin gave nothing up but I could still see their features clearly.
"What are they?" Lady Dahlia mumbled.
"I’m ready to take some heads." Roan spoke.
"We’ll attack on your word, Sir Ocean." Sir Adler said and the three got into the fighting stance with their weapons ready to impale the enemy.
But I remained still as the newcomers didn’t seem to move from their spots, they just stood there staring at me.
"A Dragon..." I heard one of them whisper.
"Pureblood Dragon,"
"In flesh..."
"I believe you have someone who belongs to me." I spoke up reinforcing my Dragon’s Presence making them tremble before they sank to their knees.
"Lord Dragon!" They cried out making Lady Dahlia and Sir Adler look at me from the corner of their eyes.
"They sensed you," Lady Dahlia mumbled.
"Wait, what?!" Roan shouted.
"Except for humans the other species can sense me." I replied to Lady Dahlia.
"You’re a... Dragon?!"
"Are they intimidated by you?" Sir Adler asked.
"Why won’t you answer me?!" Roan shouted.
I ignored him as I took a step ahead feeling my anger sizzling beneath my skin and my Dragon’s Presence was stronger than before the air around seemed as if someone had froze it before setting it on fire.
The three around me quickly jumped away as they felt the hostility of my mana.
"Don’t make me repeat myself." I spoke up louder this time and the five who were cowering in front of me flinched but didn’t say anything.
I increased the Dragon’s Presence on them making them gasp and writhe on the ground as they wheezed struggling to breath.
I looked up as one more person shot down and got into a kneeling position, he once looked at the five people who were wheezing and choking.
"Oh, great Dragon, please have mercy on them. They’re just overwhelmed because of your presence." He spoke with his head down not daring to look up as I glared coldly at him.
"Where is the child?" I demanded.
"He is currently at our base, Great Dragon." He answered.
"Take me there." I ordered.
He hesitated for a moment before he glanced back at his companions who were still struggling in their positions.
"Please have mercy on them, Lord Dragon." He said.
"Take me there." I repeated through my teeth increasing the pressure to make them slam on the ground.
"I’ll take you!" The guy shouted watching his companions being slowly crushed to death.
I lifted the pressure and heard them gasp and breath loudly as their bodies relaxed and I looked at the one who seemed as if he wanted to go to his companions before he gulped and turned.
"Please... come with me," he spoke.
I stepped ahead still feeling my Dragon’s Presence blazing around me as if tempting to destroy everything that came in its vicinity. I walked ahead and those who were sprawled on the ground quickly scrambled away from me.
Lady Dahlia, Sir Adler and Roan followed me voicelessly and the guy in front of us picked pace.
We ran for around a few minutes before he stopped in front of what looked like a cliff.
"A cliff?" Roan spoke up.
The guy didn’t say anything but he simply jumped down making Roan and other gasp loudly.
"He’s escaping!" Sir Adler shouted as he rushed ahead.
I used telekinesis and picked my companions before I too dropped from the cliff and saw a small opening which had the faint orange light emanating from it.
I landed on the lip of the entrance and my companions landed beside me.
"A-At least warn us before you do that, Master." Roan breathed.
"What the-"
"These..."
Lady Dahlia and Sir Adler’s eyes were as wide as saucers as they stared in front of us and Roan who followed their gaze also gasped.
There were around fifteen more people in there dressed in pitch black clothes and they stared back at me with wide eyes and some even had tears streaming down their faces.
The ones whom I had seen at the forest also dropped behind me and quickly scurried over and stood in front of me.
The so-called Monster battalion of Denril was none other than elves, but not the kind of elves that I had back at my place. These elves were known to be carry the dark trait.
The color of their hair was pitch black while their skin was ashy gray with sharp silver eyes. They didn’t lack in the department of beauty but their mana was what made them different.
While the regular elves could use the mana in the nature and symbolise life, these elves were the complete opposite, they drew the mana from the dead and symbolised death because of that.
But even these elves revered Dragons since they also have affiliation to mana and there were a few Dragons in past who would use dead mana.
Still, I had nothing to do with these people, they might not have hurt Drac considering he was a Lesser Dragon but if he wasn’t back to his cantonment then it was a high possibility that he was either hurt or in trouble.
"I have no business with you as of now. I’m only here for the kid," I spoke up watching their glistening eyes, "Hand him over."
"H-He is resting, Great Dragon." The one who had led us down spoke.
I could feel Drac’s presence from deep within the cave but I still wasn’t able to discern what was wrong with him. He was there so, why hadn’t heard come out yet. He must have felt my presence by now.
"Is he hurt?" I asked.
"Well..."
The dark elves looked hesitant as he exchanged glances before I heard Drac’s voice.
"Ma-Master?"
