Chapter 190: 189. My Successor (6)
I sensed the one person’s presence which I was there for as he stumbled past the corner and trudged in the light of the burning bonfire.
"Master?" Drac gasped as he held the wall for the support with his face contorted into the expression of anguish.
"What the hell?!" I heard Roan gasp as Drac came further out.
He was shirtless with the deep red scales running down his rippled abdomen and covering his shoulders. His ears were pointy, his left arm was converted into that of a Dragon’s with large black claws replacing his hand. I could feel his mana pulsing in the air around as if ready to explode.
"Y-You shouldn’t be moving around, Lord Dragon!" The ones around him gasped.
"Ma-Master, I-"
I frowned as I could sense the pulsing increase with each passing minute, it was as if there was a bomb inside him.
"What’s... wrong with you?" I asked.
"I-I’m sorry, Master..." He spoke as he trudged towards me, "I didn’t mean to... abandon my spot."
He stumbled once almost falling but I moved in time, I wrapped one of my arms around his abdomen and held his shoulder with another as I steadied him.
The pulsing sensation made my jaw clench, it was strangely making me feel as if it was influencing my mana to run rampant as well.
"What’s wrong with him?" I demanded the people around who were on their knees.
"P-Pardon us, Lord Dragon but... He-He is transforming." One of them said.
"What?"
"I-I mean he’s evolving... L-Lesser Dragons evolve after their blood completely fuses with the Blessing of the Pureblood Dragon."
"B-But it doesn’t seem like his transition is going well... H-He only has the blessing not the... Blood..."
I didn’t quite understand what they were meaning to say so I turned to the one who could give me the proper explanation.
"Oi system, explain!"
[Lesser Dragons after being blessed by a Pureblood Dragon accept them as their Masters. The blessing consists of the Pureblood Dragon sharing not only their mana but also their blood with the Lesser Dragons which fuses with the Lesser Dragon’s mana heart and blood. This blessing helps the Lesser Dragon grow stronger and evolve into their complete Dragon form after they have fused with their Master’s mana and blood.]
"I only gave him my mana, not blood. What happens now?"
[The Blessing without blood is incomplete, it may cause life-threatening consequences as without the bloodline to carry the mana flow the mana runs rampant and attacks the heart of the Lesser Dragon slowly pushing him towards death.]
"So you’re saying that if I don’t give him my blood he’ll die?!"
[There are high chances for the Lesser Dragons to die if the blessing bestowed upon them is only half but there were cases that the Lesser Dragons have survived. But for that the element that the Pureblood Dragon and the Lesser Dragon have must be same or similar in nature.]
"My element is water and Drac’s is... Fire. It’s opposite!"
[Defender of Divine Glory says that the Lesser Dragon that you have blessed may die if you don’t complete the blessing.]
[Goddess of Wisdom wonders what you will do now.]
[Giver of Gifts laments the agony of the Lesser Dragon.]
I heard Drac groan as he gripped my arm releasing a sob.
"I’m sorry... I’m sorry for being so... weak... Master..." He sniffled and I sighed before I looked at the Dark Elves around.
I gently lay Drac down on the ground watching as his face had grown paler than bone while his body was heating up. I felt the people around me starting to step back as the mana around us swirled like a raging tornado.
"Mas... ter..." Drac groaned and I sighed placing my hand on his chest feeling his heart thumping under my palm.
"Can my healing spell work?"
[Goddess of Wisdom says that it might but you will lose a lot of mana while healing him and this situation would arise in future again.]
[Defender of Divine Glory says that the Lesser Dragon doesn’t have enough time to live.]
[Giver of Gifts has assigned you a task.]
I sighed and opened the task.
[Protect the Lesser Dragon.
Reward: Life of a valuable asset and reverence of the Dark Elves.
Failure: Death of an Ally.]
[Warning: It’s a time bound task.]
[Time remaining: 04 minutes 58 seconds.]
"I would have done this without your task."
I removed the glove of my right hand and exposed the inside of my wrist before holding Drac’s head up.
"Bite." I ordered.
He groaned softly, "No..."
"We don’t have time, Drac. Bite my hand and drink my blood." I ordered and he shook his head.
"I... can’t..."
"Damn it!"
"What’s going on?" Roan asked.
"He’ll die if I don’t give him my blood." I spoke up.
"What the- How’s that possible?"
"A Lesser Dragon’s blessing is incomplete without the Pureblood Dragon’s blood to fuse the mana with. If the Great Dragon doesn’t give him blood then he... will die." The Dark elf who had brought us here explained.
"Dear Lord!" Lady Dahlia gasped.
"Here," Roan quickly walked to me with a knife in his hand.
"It’s useless." I said and he frowned.
"What? Wait, I’ll... I’ll do it. Just don’t kill me later." Roan said as he held my hand in his before placing the knife’s hard edge on my wrist.
He squeezed his eyes shut muttering an apology before he moved the knife swiftly and then opened his eyes only to stare wide eyed.
"What the-"
He tried to cut through my wrist again but there was not even a scratch on my skin.
"Is your skin made of iron? Why doesn’t it cut?" He shouted and I gripped the knife with my bare hand and the steel crumbled in my palm like a brittle glass.
"You just heard what I am, Roan. My skin won’t cut with this," I said and Roan stared at the shattered shards of knife that fell on the ground as I flicked my wrist.
I sighed and shook my head, I didn’t have a choice here. Drac’s eyes had slid closed and his heart beats were slowing.
I brought my hand up and was about to bite into my skin when I suddenly recalled. This body wasn’t my original one, I couldn’t hurt this body, it was an illusion. If I had to give Drac my blood then there was no choice but to revert to my original form and then feeding him blood.
"He-He’s dying..." One of the Dark elves gasped.
They had gathered around us kneeling on the ground watching us with glistening and teary eyes.
[Time remaining: 20 seconds.]
"No choice here," I mumbled as I could barely feel Drac’s heart thumping. His mana force had almost diminshed from the air and his body temperature had fallen to that of a cold rock.
[Time remaining: 10 seconds.]
I quickly pulled off my earstud from my ear reverting back to my original self in an instant. I could hear the loud gasps from all around me but I ignored them before I bit onto the skin of my wrist, my sharp canines dug deeper into the flesh drawing blood.
I quickly held my bleeding wrist over Drac’s mouth letting the blood droplets drop over his tongue. I saw as his Adam’s apple moved and he swallowed my blood.
The punctures on my wrist healed within a few seconds and I looked at Drac’s face. His eyes were still closed but slowly I could feel his mana presence expanding. His heart started beating with vitality again before the color returned to his face, his body started slowly reverting back to its human form.
His body temperature also rose rapidly and I could feel the force of his mana harmonising with mine and for some reason, I could feel a sense of kinship from him now.
The scales on his skin slowly faded, his claws receded and his palm became human-like again. His ears also went back to the normal shape before his eyes flew open as he breathed loudly.
He coughed loudly and I helped him sit up before gently patting his back.
"How do you feel now?" I asked and he inhaled and exhaled deeply before he turned his head to me.
His eyes went as wide as saucers as he stared at me with his jaw dropping to the ground.
"Ma-Master?... I-Is this your new disguise? But you..."
He looked at me up and down, and not only him but also everyone else who were staring at me with the similar expressions. I didn’t even want to see the three whom I had brought along.
I put the earstud back on going back to my Ocean’s form and stood up giving a hand to Drac. He stared at my hand before he gingerly touched it and grasped, I pulled him up to a standing position.
"Oi... Master, what was that form?" Roan asked.
"A child?!" Sir Adler gasped.
"I-I can’t believe it... You’re Miss-" I turned to look at Lady Dahlia who recognised me.
She had seen me when I was Reina so, it was obvious that she would recognise me easily.
"Everyone..." I spoke up, "whatever you saw here, if you dared to tell even a soul about this, I’ll kill you and your entire family."
My fierce glare must have done the work but my Dragon’s Presence added to the threat making the people take one step back knowing that I meant what I said.
