Chapter 163: 162. Night Of Chaos (2)

The next few days passed uneventfully making me feel a bit uneasy as it was practically impossible for everything to be so quiet after what had happened in the past few days.

I was expecting some sort of chaos from the side which I had poked at but surprisingly everyone was quiet.

The days were peaceful, the afternoons made me lazy and the evenings made me so bored that I was growing restless. Just like this particular evening.

After having dinner, I and Roan were in my office looking over some documents, well, I was looking at some documents while he sat lounging in his chair with the mountains of paperwork.

"I’m so damn bored!" I groaned making Roan look at me with a cocked brow.

"You should have some shame saying that in front of me," he said, "You have literally buried me over here with your paperwork, I can’t even go out and play!"

I looked at him and then sighed.

"You’re not even working right now."

"My work for the day is done!"

"Ugh... I want the Golden Serpent to mess up or something..."

Roan sighed, "Speaking of mess up, didn’t you say you were going to expose someone’s extramarital affair?"

"Yes, that is already put into action."

"It’s so boring to not be a part of anything, you know?" Roan complained.

"Give me some outdoor mission too, I want to have fun like others too."

"You chose safety over risk, Roan."

"I wouldn’t have if I’d have known it would be this boring!"

"Now, now, I’ll send you on some exciting mission when something comes up."

"Is that something ever going to come up?" Roan groaned, "I want a day off!"

"You have days off every week, Roan, and I never put overtime on you, be grateful."

Roan snorted, "With the amount of work that is piling up even if I stayed here working non-stop for days it won’t be completed!"

"Well, can’t argue with that, Oasis Foundation is working surprisingly well and even the Herot is starting to get back on its feet so, I guess the paperwork has increased."

"You haven’t gone to Herot after the war started though," Roan pointed out.

"Aren’t you worried that it might get under attack since you’re not there and even that Dragon kid is not there?"

"I’ve warned the one responsible for those attacks so, he will know better than to mess with me."

"Well, what if an attack happens?" I looked at Roan with a small smile on my lips before I answered.

"I will destroy his past, present and future."

Roan stared at me for a long moment before he averted his eyes from mine.

"You know it sounds really scary when you say it."

I chuckled, "Well, they should know the consequences of messing with me, right? I can’t just let some puny humans think that they can get away with anything they do against me."

Roan’s jaw slackened, "Puny humans? What about you? You’re a human too, right?"

I smirked impishly while his eyes widened, "Oi, don’t scare me like that, Master. You are a human too, right?"

"What if I’m not?" I smirked placing my chin on my palm while my elbow rested over the desk.

Roan scoffed, "All right, that’s enough!"

"Heh? You’re no fun, Roan. At least guess what I could be?"

Roan gave me a side glance before he sighed, "Fine, let’s treat this as a game."

"Yay!"

"Sheesh, the enthusiasm!" Roan scoffed but a small smile graced his features before he started guessing.

"Human?"

"Seriously? You’re starting with that?"

Roan rolled his eyes, "Right, right, you’re not a human. So, are you a dwarf?"

I narrowed my eyes at him making him laugh before he shook his head and then looked at me.

"From where do I look like a dwarf?" I asked and he chuckled again before his eyes suddenly went wide.

"Wait, don’t tell me that you’re an elf!"

I sighed shaking my head, "I know, I’m good-looking Roan but I’m still not an elf."

Roan gave me a weird look which made me chuckle and he licked his lips.

"Then are you a shifter?"

"Shifters cannot use magic, dumbass."

"Who’re you calling a dumbass?!"

"Next guess."

Roan huffed angrily before he hummed trying to think of something before he turned his eyes on me again.

"Then, are you a D-"

"Master!" A loud, high-pitched voice suddenly pierced through our peace and I turned my head to look at the communication device on my desk.

"Master! Emergency! Master, there are-" Her voice crackled drowning into the cacophony of the dominating noise from her surroundings.

I grabbed the communication device and asked urgently, "What? What is it?"

"Monsters! Master, there’s monsters everywhere! Help! We can’t handle them!"

"Master!"

"Where?" I asked.

"Hezborn! An-And even in Borkshire, the wave is heading straight towards Lozar and Crigston as well. We’re trying to help evacuate people but, these monsters are way too many an-and-"

Her voice crackled again and I could hear the sounds of the roars and growls from her end along with her shouts.

I and Roan exchanged a glance before I grabbed my mask and cloak and he got to his feet too.

"We’re going to teleport so hold on!" I commanded and he quickly walked over to me and held my arm.

I teleported us to Hezborn hovering a few feet above the ground with Roan hanging by my arm.

"What the hell?! Why are we in air?!" Roan shouted as his feet flailed.

But I wasn’t paying attention to him, I was taken aback as I saw the horde of rogue shifters spawning the streets and people screaming and running for their lives.

"What the hell are those things?!" Roan shouted as he looked down.

"Rogues." I answered.

"Hah?!"

I noticed the few black clothed, lithe people dashing amongst the citizens, helping them to run to a safe spot but unfortunately, it didn’t seem like there was a safe spot here.

"Roan, bring everyone to this building, I’ll take care of these pests." I pointed at the building which looked like the council building.

"All right!" Roan shouted and I lowered myself letting him land on one of the roofs.

He looked around once and I couldn’t help but feel a strange sensation settling in around me.

"Roan?" I called and he turned.

"What?"

"Don’t die on me, all right?" I asked making him purse his lips.

"Like hell I will!"

He leapt off the two storey building and landed on the street before I created a huge water ball into the sky drawing a few people’s attention.

The spikes emerged from water ball before they darted right for the beasts that were chasing their victims. I felt my spell stab through their bodies and the rest of the people finally taking a notice of my presence.

"Hurry, over here!" I heard Roan shouting.

"It’s Master!"

"Master is here!"

"Bring the people over here!"

It was a strange thing that three towns within a night were under the seige of the monsters which were supposed to be confined into Frosthail. I hadn’t been able to get much intel but now it seemed like all the pieces were falling into place on its own.

I heard a scream which made my head whip and a water spike charged over at the sound on instinct it stabbed a large wolf in the back making it release a gurgling yelp. It slumped on the ground and I flew over to the woman who had screamed and noticed the baby that she was cradling in her arms.

She yelped first as I appeared out of nowhere but then she looked relieved.

"Tha-" she opened her mouth to thank me but I reached out to hold her arm instead.

"No time for that, hold the baby tight,"

I scooped her up in my arms making her gasp before I flapped my wings and flew off towards the safe building.

I let her down on the roof gently making sure that she and the baby were all right before I flew back up to scan the area.

The beasts that I had seen on the streets were all dead because of my earlier large scale attack but to be sure I activated my Mana Eyes to scan the area.

Strangely enough, I should have found a few hiding or escaping the town but there were none.

I flew back to the building and noticed Roan and the assassins whom I had stationed in that area for intel providing first aid to the injured people.

"Is everyone all right?" I asked Roan.

"Yes, their injuries aren’t that serious. There are a few casualties but, those can’t be helped."

I clenched my teeth feeling frustrated at it and Roan reached out and touched my arm giving me a reassuring smile.

"It wasn’t in your hands," he said making me sigh deeply.

"I’ll go check the other towns."

"Should I go along?" He asked and I looked at the people who were around us crying, wailing and tending to their wounds.

"Sure,"

"Good thing, besides, I’m having a sense of Deja Vu by tending all these people." He tried to joke and I forced a smile before we walked out of the building after I gave some brief instructions to the assassins on duty.
