Chapter 162: 161. Night Of Chaos (1)

Three days had passed after my visit to the Royal palace and I found myself at Fairisles mansion in front of Lady Elise and Grandfather.

"You met with both Queen and the King?" Grandfather asked.

I took a sip of the tea prepared for me as I answered, "Yes, and if it counts then, I also saw Princess Colette."

"The Princess?!"

"She’s a spitting image of her mother," I said, "not only in looks but also in personality. She was lashing out at a noble child."

"Did you two run into each other?" Grandfather asked.

I shook my head, "I was standing at a distance behind the bushes, and she was far too busy with shouting at her company that she didn’t even notice that there was an intruder."

"Why would she be shouting at another noble child though?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "I just heard her saying that that girl cannot compare to her and that she shouldn’t act out of her place or something."

Grandfather looked a little confused while Lady Elise’s face was taken over by a ghost of a sour expression.

"I can think of a few reasons why she must have acted that way," she said making me and Grandfather look at her.

"Both her mother and herself seem like they can’t have anyone else steal the attention. That poor child must have done something that indirectly led to Colette losing the attention or looking bad in front of people." She explained.

"I have went through the similar scenes numerous times myself to know what that child must be going through right now... being subjected to the harsh nature of a person who cannot withstand someone else taking their self-proclaimed spot."

I hummed lightly as Lady Elise explained about it and exchanged a glance with Grandfather. In future, Katherine would have to suck it and watch Eric ascending the throne while her son would either be in the coffin or pushed away somewhere in the dark pits. Lady Elise seemed to have momentarily forgotten this fact as her eyes grew dull.

For some reason I knew, I and Grandfather were thinking of the same thing.

Grandfather cleared his throat as he spoke up, "I would love to see their expressions when they see Eric ascending the throne as a King and you taking the place of the Regent Lady Elise, don’t you agree Reina?"

I smirked, "It’s a certain future decided by me so, you should decide what you would say to her or do with her once you are back in the game, Lady Elise. I’m sure the prospects to seeing her defeated face are better than recalling her arrogant face."

Lady Elise looked at Grandfather and then at me as we both held the same kind of smirks on our faces before she chuckled.

"How could I forget about that?"

Her eyes found home on me again, "I have you by my side so, it’s almost foolish to be depressed by recalling what had happened. I... can’t wait to see Katherine’s face again. I want to see her crumbling at my feet."

"You will, there’s no doubt in that besides, before leaving I did something that could act as a rift between the King and Queen."

Both of them looked at me inquisitively as I sipped my tea making their curiosity grow.

"What did you do, Reina?" Grandfather asked.

I smiled as I tapped my finger against the brim of the cup as I recalled the King’s expression when I slipped something after Viscount Jordan left.

It was a few minutes after Viscount Jordan who couldn’t stomach my face excused himself to go vomit that I was left alone with the King.

"I hope the work of the Magic Gate is going smoothly, if there is any problem then let me know." Roger had said.

"Yes, Your Majesty," I smiled, "Her Majesty was had also extended her generosity in helping me. She said that if I find it hard to sponsor this project then she can ask Count Peter Erkens to collaborate."

"I gave the work to Duke Aurelius and you, Baron Ocean, why would you look for more collaborators without consulting me?"

"I didn’t, Your Majesty!" I quickly brought my hands up.

"It was what Her Majesty suggested, saying that she didn’t want you to be too stressed over this matter. She said that with the war growing even more strained and since most of the noblemen had been dispatched to the battlefield she wanted to do as much as possible to aid you."

I saw a dark expression cross his face for a split second before it disappeared making me smirk.

"You... did you accept her suggestion?" He asked.

"I cannot go against Your Majesty’s word, Her Majesty suggested that since she knows that I have also taken over the cities of Underworld." I prompted making his eyebrows jump.

"Right, that is also the thing with you."

"Yes, Your Majesty, but I’ve indulged into it because I don’t want this Holy Kingdom to have a blotch because of the criminal activities that are happening behind the curtains. His Majesty is a person who looks after everyone like a Father figure so, it should be the people like me who could take care of such nuisances for you."

I could see the cogs turning in his head as I showed him a new direction and also planted a seed of doubt into his mind. Since the Queen knew about my connections to underworld and she wanted me to collaborate with the person who was on her side then, it was as good as saying that she wanted me to be her pawn. Now, that wouldn’t be a good thing for the King since he knew what kind of a person she was.

"Her Majesty said that people like me would make the future of this Kingdom brighter."

Translation : "People like you will be of great use for my son when he becomes the King."

That would be the final blow.

"You don’t have to rely on someone else about this, Baron Ocean. I am making you the Marquis soon so, you don’t have to collaborate with anyone else." He said making me smile.

"Are you facing any problems regarding the money that has been used for the construction of the Magic Gate?" He asked.

"No, Your Majesty. Duke Aurelius, Archmage and I had a meeting just a few days ago regarding the budget for this project, though it wasn’t finalized because the future expenses that could unexpectedly come up we had set an estimate and it’s within my limits so, everything is going smoothly as how Your Majesty wants."

"That’s good to hear, if there’s any problem then let me know first, do you understand?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. It is... an honor to be of use to you," I said, "just like my ancestors, I also want to be dedicated to the Sun of this kingdom."

Grandfather snorted as I explained to him and Lady Elise about my conversation with King Roger.

"So, you’re using this approach in making them go against each other?"

"This may look simple but it’ll help a lot in the long run, there’s no one else but Roger who knows Katherine the best and he knows to what extent she could go to achieve her goals." I said as I placed the cup down.

"If he starts to suspect that she is clearing the way to make her own son the King then it will eventually put his life at stake as well because the major thing that would block Carlos from becoming the King is Roger himself."

"She has sent Eric to the front lines, Carlos is in a safer area so, according to her planning Eric might die and she could make Carlos the Crown Prince once he returns but she will have to remove Roger eventually for Carlos to be on the throne so..."

I left my further words hanging, giving an impetus to their thoughts as they starting thinking of the possibilities that would come up ahead.

"Katherine has avoided the topic of Underworld while talking to me, she wants to maintain the image of a benevolent Queen who is far from the filth of the criminal world. But... I will change that, and that will start by exposing her Lady-in-waiting’s secret affair."

"Secret affair?"

"Yes, she and Viscount Jordan are in an extramarital affair."

Lady Elise gasped while Grandfather’s eyebrows jumped.

"But, which Lady-in-waiting? There are three."

"Countess Mariott Belvet." I answered, one of those three was my planted spy so, it was only obvious that I was getting pretty solid intel on Katherine.

"Countess Belvet?! But she’s five years older than Viscount Jordan how could she?" Lady Elise gasped making me chuckle.

"Roger had no idea of what goes on behind his back, he has no idea that his Aide is sided with the Queen and once he knows of that, he will surely do what I want."

Grandfather and Lady Elise didn’t seem like they were able to believe my shocking piece of information but it was something that was one of the most amusing things of intel gathering. The kind of snippets that we find end up becoming explosives that could destroy someone’s lives.
