Chapter 62: The Blight Plague

Chapter 62: The Blight Plague

After settling down in their room, Kai and Gwen headed over to the Adventurer’s guild to take on some quests and potentially rank up. When they walked inside, the entire place was on edge.

It was normal for people to have their weapons in hand, be fully decked out in armor, and even carry around monster parts to sell. But usually, everyone was either looking for new quests to take on or were chatting about with their companions, eating, and drinking.

Today, however, that was not the case. The moment Gwen and Kai walked into the place, everyone pulled out their weapons and readied their spells.

It was so unexpected that Kai instinctively raised his hands, showing that he wasn’t a threat.

"Woah, woah, what’s going on?" He asked, looking around at everyone.

"Is something the matter?" Gwen wondered.

"You two kids know what’s going on here?" A seasoned man asked. He was tall, had a muscular build, and a scar on his face.

"One of the guards at the gate told us that something called the blight plague is going around. No idea what that is though." Kai admitted.

"Yeah. That plague is no joke. It fucks a person up. So, how do I know you two arent infected?" The man pointed his sword at them.

Multiple magic circles flared up behind him from mages who were taking this seriously. If a mage uses a magic circle, then shit is going down.

"I’m immune to all sicknesses and diseases. I can use Cure Magic. It’s a special type of magic that allows me to cure diseases. So, even if I did get infected, I could just cure it."

Kai wasn’t pressured by anyone there. He knew all of them were a lot weaker than him. However, it was best to ease the minds of everyone than to attack them. He decided not to hypnotize them since relying on that too much could dull his social skills. Not to mention, not every situation called for it anyway.

Everyone looked at each other and silently nodded in agreement.

"Prove it." The man said, tossing an infected arm at Kai.

The arm was a whitish-blue color that looked as if it had been baked in the sun for months, as the arm lacked any moisture. Kai felt an ominous energy coming off the arm, which made him shiver.

"What’s that weird mana coming from the arm?" He asked

Gwen’s eyes widened. "Black Magic?"

"Close, but not quite. It’s dark magic." A mage woman spoke up. "The Blight Plague comes from dark magic. It’s the work of the demons. They infect people, turning them into monsters, husks of their former selves. Their bite and scratch can spread this plague. At first, people wouldn’t be affected by the plague, but after a few days, they would feel weak and tired. After a week, they will feel Ill. And after exactly 10 days, they will turn into a monster."

"I see. Well, I’ll give this a shot." Kai didn’t know if his ability would work on the plague since it was black magic at its core. But since it was a plague, meaning it was some kind of sickness, he assumed everything would be fine.

A green light was cast upon the arm, its energy seeping into it. Everyone looked on to see if Kai was telling the truth or if he was full of shit.

Thankfully, his ability worked on the arm, and it was fully restored to its former self, and the plague was completely eradicated from it.

"Woah!"

"Amazing!"

"He was telling the truth!"

"We can use someone like him!"

"Impressive, kid. You can come in handy when we exterminate those bastards." The scared man smiled, patting Kai on the back.

"Shouldn’t we cure them? I’m sure we can be of help."

The man sadly shook his head. "Unfortunately, once a person completely succumbs to the plague, they die. They become a zombie-like creature that only has one basic instinct: kill."

Kai nodded. "I understand."

"Well, it’s good to know that you two are completely okay. A few days ago, an adventurer waltzed in here acting all fine, managing to use his mana to fight off the plague. But eventually, he couldn’t take it, and he transformed. He was a B-Rank adventurer, and since you keep your strength when transforming, it took some of us to put him down. We had to even kill three adventurers since they ended up getting infected. I hope you know how serious this is."

"I do, and I’ll make sure to be careful when working." Kai shook the man’s hand.

Just as Kai and Gwen were about to head to the request board, the mage woman walked over to them.

"You two should join the expedition team. Your skills would be greatly appreciated."

"Expedition team?" Gwen asked

The woman nodded. "Yes. You see, the plague has affected tons of people and is spreading fast. To counter this, the guild sent people to round up the infected in a specific area to avoid the spread of the plague. After that, an expedition team comprised of many adventurers was created to wipe them all out. We leave in three days. Be here in the morning if you wish to participate."

’This might be a good idea actually. I could earn a shit ton of points. Since the infected were originally people and are now more dangerous, the amount of points I gain from them should be even higher than normal.’

Kai started salivating.

"Yeah, we’ll be there. See you then." Kai shook the woman’s hand, then went to the request board.

The two of them searched for twenty minutes and didn’t find any quest that interested them at their current rank.

’We really need to rank up.’ Kai sighed.

"Maybe we can do this one? It’s hunting trolls." Gwen grinned, but she, too, knew it was pretty boring. But she had a grudge against them, so she would never turn that down.

"Su-"

"Just let me take on the quest! I’m strong enough to go on my own!" A woman’s voice shrieked at the reception desk.

"I’m sorry, but you have to be in a party of three or more to go on this quest. It’s a C-Rank one after all." The receptionist said with a smile.

"I’m a C-Rank adventurer!" The woman argued.

"And this is a C-Rank party quest, not a solo quest."

"Ughhhh!!!!!"

’Woah! What is this?! A swordswoman, Catkin? Fuck, do you see those thighs and those hips? Her toned ass is great, and she even has a nice rack! Fuck, I’m drooling. I need her in my party ASAP!’

"Hello, if you don’t mind, we can join you on this quest." Kai offered.

The Catkin scoffed. "Look, I don’t need a party to kill something as weak as a Wendigo." She turned to see who had asked to team up with her, and the moment she did, her heart started pounding.

"Woah, what a hottie. I changed my mind, you can party up with me any time you want, baby."

’Assertive? I like that.’ Kai grinned.

"Great, how about you temporarily join our party then?" He suggested.

"Count me in." She purred.

Gwen scoffed silently, knowing that Kai planned on keeping her in the party. ’Womanizer.’
