The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 48
Chapter 48: Chapter 48
A little over an hour later, Jerome and Veronica were on their way to meet with Liam.
Jerome glanced in the rearview mirror at Veronica keeping herself busy with videos of herself and Liam which he had transferred to her new phone. The best way to pretend she was fine was to study how she was in the past and Veronica was keeping up with it, trying to perfect being Veronica.
He wanted to applaud her for how she handled her visitors today. It was a little like the old Veronica except she had more patience. The Veronica he was used to would have kept the conversation short or just walked away since she was long tired of her mother.
"We’ll be arriving in two minutes," Jerome informed Veronica.
He didn’t get a response since she was so focused on her phone which he didn’t mind. Jerome hoped that looking at these memories might spark something.
Veronica looked out the car window when she noticed a large building coming into view. She learned from the internet that Liam was a jack of all trades. He dipped his hand in many different business ventures.
There was the mall in the Sterling name since Nathan’s father and many properties but then Liam branched off to have other businesses in his name.
Should he be pushed out of his seat in the family business, Liam had other things to fall back on which was smart because of the pressure his family was putting on him.
"Jerome, does Liam only have one office?" Veronica asked.
"He has another one aside from the one at home but this is the office he is in the most," Jerome answered.
Veronica noted to later have Liam share with her all his business ventures and what she had dabbled in over the years. "It’s a large mall," she noticed.
"The biggest in the city," Jerome replied just before he exited the car to open Veronica’s door. "His father was starting a project to go into the hotel industry. While Liam is in charge here, his father still does projects on the side."
"If Liam doesn’t do what his father wants, could there be a time he is voted out of the business?" Veronica asked, curious about how much control Liam had.
"He can try to push Liam out. You will need to ask your husband why it would not be easy to do."
Veronica needed to go slow with this. Everyone seemed to be playing a game, even Liam. As long as Liam wouldn’t be thrown out when she had witnessed him working hard then she had nothing to worry about.
"If you want to shop, you can before we go to see him," Jerome informed Veronica. "A card was given to you."
"I was given two. One belongs to Liam," Veronica now remembered the black card she put in her purse. "He said that one was from a shared account. I’d rather use mine."
"It’s not unusual for you to use the shared account," Jerome said, hoping she was not thinking about others claiming she was using Liam. "You are husband and wife."
Veronica chuckled, slightly entertained by how Jerome acted now. "I prefer to use mine since I don’t have something to buy for myself. I might buy a gift for Liam and I would like to use my money. He’s done a lot for me so I want to get him something."
"Oh," Jerome relaxed. "Mr. Sterling is a lover of suits but he will like anything you get him. If you have a colour or designer in mind, I can run to get it for you and package it up."
"Thank you but no. A gift would mean more if I picked it out for him. I will save it for another day. It’ll be my excuse for seeing him when we don’t have lunch plans," said Veronica.
Veronica followed Jerome to an elevator to go to another side where there were offices. She contemplated if she should have come with coffee or something for Liam to drink.
She saw him this morning and they shared a bed last night but for some reason, Veronica was nervous to walk through the office and go to Liam. Why was it different to see his employees than her own? Her visit to the art gallery had been fun but this felt like she was walking to the principal’s office.
When the door opened, Veronica was faced with employees or visitors who reacted like they saw a ghost and then smiled when it set in that this was real.
"Mrs. Sterling! Welcome back."
"Thank you," Veronica replied as she exited the elevator.
Their reactions seemed genuine. There weren’t any negative feelings behind their reaction as they were genuinely happy to see her visiting.
The responses continued the further she got into the office.
Veronica suspected Liam told them of her coming to visit because of some balloons she noticed and more gifts. It calmed her nerves about coming to see him today.
Inside the office, Nora was puzzled by why everyone was so uppity but then she remembered the notice she received that Veronica would be coming today. Why did they have to act like Veronica was some kind of queen?
Nora stood back and watched as Veronica soaked up the attention. The reports that her accident was all for attention were believable. It pained her to see Liam step out of his office and offer his hand to welcome Veronica inside.
Nora gripped the case files she volunteered to drop off at Liam’s office. Her plan was ruined by Veronica’s arrival. She knew it was wrong to go after Liam when he was still married but with a marriage said to be almost at the end, she couldn’t help it.
"What is Beth doing?" Nora muttered.
She didn’t have much faith in Beth but when Beth was so certain she could break those two it was annoying to still see them together. It was a waste of her time to speak to Beth and she was no longer entertained.
Nora stepped to the right to try to get a better look at what Liam was doing inside the office with Veronica but as usual, the office blinds were closed to have privacy. She had a good guess for what a couple would be doing in secret.
Being the odd person out since she didn’t enjoy Veronica’s return and she had to put herself in the mood to smile when she came across Veronica, Nora turned around to find a quiet space to let her frustrations out then she would come back.
’This is my time,’ Nora angrily thought.
Veronica was invading her space with Liam.
