The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 49
Chapter 49: Chapter 49
"I realised I came empty-handed a little too late. I should have brought a coffee or some other kind of drink. Do you want cake?" Veronica asked, pointing over her shoulder. "There might be something to drink out there. Are you having a party?"
"It is a little something one of the managers put together fast for your arrival. You can have some cake, open the gift they got and then we’ll head out for lunch. Sit here," Liam said, pulling out his chair for Veronica.
"In the big man’s chair? Don’t mind if I do," Veronica said, taking a seat on Liam’s chair. "I feel expensive already," she joked.
Liam sat on his desk since his seat was taken. "Did you enjoy being at the art gallery? What was that look?’
"I had some guests as soon as I walked in like Sabrina and my mother being there with Beth. I’m starting to wonder if I am being followed. Maybe it’s because they saw me at the art gallery yesterday that they assumed I would be there but it is a little strange," Veronica said, stuck on how they knew to go there.
"It could all be a coincidence," she decided to go with it for now and not think about it. "Nothing bad happened other than having to hear their opinions. Sabrina has quite the crush on you. I need to be more watchful for how many women are in love with you. You should wear a hat."
"And what’s a hat going to do?" Liam asked.
"Hide a little bit of you? I don’t have it in me to listen to too many other people saying we’ll be divorced soon so they will have you. So far it has been two women and you are one man. If I am out of the picture, they all have competition," said Veronica.
"Unfortunately for them, you will not be out of the picture. You’re stuck with me till death do us part. I need to show you a video of our wedding for you to remember the vows. I might have it on my phone," Liam said, picking up his phone from his desk.
"I’ve seen it already. We had a beautiful wedding. You have a lot of pictures of us," Veronica noticed after looking around his office. "I wonder if it bothers your visitors to see them."
There are around five small picture frames of them together and others with him standing with people she didn’t know cutting ribbons.
"I don’t care if they hate to see it. Just because they might not be in a good relationship to show pictures of their partner doesn’t mean I need to take down mine. Do you want something to drink or does your throat still feel sore?" Liam asked, still curious about the dream she had.
"I can drink now. I might have been a little dramatic last night. It wasn’t sore, it was just all in my head. Thank you again for sleeping with me. Not like that. Well, you know what I mean. Just thank you," Veronica finished to save herself from fumbling over her words.
"No, thank you. I slept well last night. I woke up with my wife lying on my chest. I will keep my door open tonight unless I am back to sleeping in the main bedroom?" Liam asked.
Veronica looked away from Liam to the big window which offered a good view. "I thought we discussed that you would move back there. It’s your bedroom too and it’s not fair you had to leave because of me."
"I’m a stranger to you. It was the right decision for me to leave the bedroom and I stand by it. Still, I’ll be there tonight after dinner."
"You said that like you have to drive somewhere to see me. We live together," Veronica chuckled.
"Isn’t it like we’ve started from the beginning? Maybe I should move to one of our other properties and start picking you up with flowers. You preferred fake flowers since they wouldn’t die on you and make you sad. I’ll get you water and a slice of cake," Liam said as he got off the desk.
"Just water. I’ll stop to have cake when we are leaving. It would look bad if you get a slice for me and bring it in here without me interacting with anyone. I’ll play big boss while you’re away," Veronica said, leaning back on Liam’s chair.
Liam could get used to the sight of her relaxed in his chair. He headed toward the door to get water for Veronica but also for something else.
The office quieted down when Liam exited the room.
"Mr. Sterling," Jerome approached Liam.
"Look into if someone is following her and look into who is working for us. It’s that time when my mother or uncle tries to bribe someone," said Liam.
"I’ve already started to look into whether we were followed after Mrs Sterling voiced her concern about it. So far, I have only heard back about a few news reporters driving around the two of you. I’ll make a call to end that fast," Jerome said, making a note to look into the workers at the same time.
"Good. You’re always one step ahead. I need to get water for Veronica," Liam said, starting to walk off to get it. "Has my mother and father started to reach out to you to change my schedule?"
"Your mother and uncle have. They want me to arrange a time for you to have lunch with them. I’ve sent them flowers and a box of chocolates like you told me. The flowers that make your mother itch and the chocolate your uncle hates."
Liam laughed. He would like to be a fly on the wall seeing the pair receive his gifts for being sorry Jerome could not meet with them.
"There is something important I need to bring to your attention. Beth seems confident that you are having an affair. She mentioned it today when she was at the gallery. Should I look into it or take care of her?" Jerome asked, needing Liam’s permission first.
"Do nothing," Liam replied. ’Why should we waste our time on something that doesn’t exist? If she keeps talking about it, one day she will need to back it up with proof and I want to see this affair that keeps coming up."
"She could come up with a fake story and sell it," Jerome said, thinking they should do something.
"Let her. I’m curious how much money I will be able to make off her lies," said Liam.
