The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 46
Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Sabrina turned around to face Veronica. She was going to stick by the fact that she knew Liam more than Veronica since she knew him from when they were children. Liam had something planned for why he married Veronica and she couldn’t wait for the day it would come to an end to get Veronica out of their space.
"You should laugh now while you can. It’ll hurt later when Adeline shows more support for me. Liam and I make more sense as a couple while the two of you together fit a cheesy movie to make women think they can find their dream guy," said Sabrina.
A marriage like this one was never meant to last.
’When that time comes, you’ll wish you took my tip. Both the money and my advice," Sabrina replied, balling up the cheque as she spoke. She threw it in Veronica’s direction for her to pick it up.
Veronica had nothing to say about Sabrina tossing the paper. It didn’t hit her and what it did was show how childish Sabrina was. She was witnessing a temper tantrum.
Jerome watched the two women, in awe of Veronica. If he didn’t know any better he would have thought Veronica was back to normal. He saw a bit of what he was used to now with the way she handled Sabrina.
Was she still without her memories or was Veronica tricking them?
Sabrina noticed two people she didn’t want to speak to coming toward them. "I am going to make you regret this."
Sabrina proceeded out since there was nothing else to see in the gallery.
Veronica sighed. Sabrina came to her so why was she wanting to get payback all of a sudden just because her plan was ruined?
Veronica thought she was in for some peace until she turned and found her mother with Beth. How did everyone just happen to know she was going to be here today? It couldn’t be that they were just so lucky with their visit.
Who was next? Adeline?
"See, isn’t this suspicious to you? Of all the days I could visit the gallery, how did they know they could find me today? I didn’t tell anyone outside my home that I was coming here. This really is like one of those shows," Veronica said, starting to question if this was the real world or if she was stuck in a TV show.
"It is strange for Sabrina to visit but your mother isn’t a stranger to visiting and making a scene. You are normally here every other day so it could be a lucky guess but I will look into it," Jerome said, knowing it was worth looking for spies. They could have been followed.
Veronica wanted to leave but she had a feeling her mother lacked knowing to just leave her alone. Should she kick out her mother?
The gallery wasn’t busy but there were enough people around to get a buzz about this going on.
"Good to see you are walking around. I thought the charity event would be the only time I see you out and about. You look good. Not like someone who recently fell off a boat and almost drowned," Evelyn said, trying to start on the right foot.
Beth had a different opinion. Veronica was married to Liam but she walked around in clothes no one would be able to point out. She didn’t dress the part of Liam’s wife. It was a waste of money.
"I am not going to give you any money. Spare me from being annoyed today and just leave. If you came here for the art, which I doubt you did, you can find an employee to give you a tour. Excuse me," Veronica said, eager to get away from her mother.
Evelyn followed Veronica. "I am not here about money. See, you have the wrong opinion of me."
"Wrong opinion? We saw each other last night and all you wanted to talk about was money. Do you think I am stupid to believe you came here for other reasons? You want something and again, I am not giving it to you. Give up," Veronica urged her mother.
At what point did begging get tiring? Did shame start to come?
"I want to make things right and Beth misses you. The two of you were close," Evelyn said, pushing Beth toward Veronica.
"Right. So close that I borrowed her ring?" Veronica recalled what Beth said.
One thing she would be certain to never forget was how Beth lied in the hospital room.
"I was just joking with you," Beth said, going along with the story Evelyn came up with.
She would rather stick to the truth that the ring did belong to her. She was the one going on arranged dates with Liam first then Veronica came along, not thinking of how it would look for both of them to want to date him.
"Then you need to work on your jokes because it wasn’t funny. I don’t have time for any of you right now so please, find someone else to bother with your problems. Enjoy the art," Veronica smiled. "Where to next, Jerome?"
"Who are you trying to fool? We know what we saw in that hospital room. You didn’t remember anything so why act like you do now?" Beth wondered, puzzled by Veronica’s behaviour.
What would Veronica lose if she just came out and said that she didn’t have her memories?
Was there some kind of big plot Veronica was coming up with? Beth wouldn’t have Veronica take her down.
"I don’t care what you saw. What I care about is the two of you leaving me alone. You are here about money or to get Liam to not buy that building. Unfortunately for the two of you, I am not getting involved in his business-"
Evelyn knew the truth. "He is only doing it because of you. When did he ever have any interest in that building before your father-"
"Stepfather," Veronica interjected. "He is my stepfather and very little as one to me with the way he is demanding money for taking care of me in the past. You make the mistake of thinking that I want Liam to think of any of you. I like to ignore you."
"How can I believe that when..."
Veronica didn’t hear what more her mother had to say as something about this conversation felt familiar like they talked about this in the past in this very place.
Veronica looked away from her mother to her surroundings to find just where she had this talk before. "Why are you looking for your father?" She accidentally said a question that came to her mind.
Evelyn froze. "You, I told you to stop that."
"That’s what you said to me here. Isn’t it?" Veronica asked.
