Chapter 42: Chapter 42

Veronica stirred in bed, bothered by the sunlight directly on her face. Had she forgotten to pull the curtains so the sun wouldn’t get in?

Veronica reached for the remote she placed at the side of the bed so she wouldn’t need to get up. ’Why isn’t it there?’ She wondered.

She opened her eyes, her vision blurry as she was still drowsy. She rubbed her eyes to get a better look at the bed and when her vision became better, Veronica quickly moved her hand. She couldn’t get the remote because this wasn’t the room she had grown accustomed to.

Veronica tried not to move to wake up Liam. At first, she didn’t remember how she got there but then she remembered falling asleep on the left side of the bed. So, how was it now that she laid on top of Liam and his hand was perfectly placed around her waist?

Liam was still on his side so it meant that she had moved in her sleep to be near him.

Veronica closed her eyes, hoping that when she opened them again this would be a dream and she was still on the left side not touching her husband. Her wish wasn’t heard as she was still lying on top of Liam.

The good news was that he was still fast asleep and unaware of the position they were in now so she could get out of there without him ever knowing she rolled to his side.

’Easy,’ she thought.

Veronica slowly sat up and held Liam’s hand to move it from her waist but his hold on her became tighter, making it hard for her to leave the bed.

"Good morning," Liam greeted Veronica.

"You’ve been awake and said nothing?" Veronica questioned him. He could have saved her from her failed attempt to get out of bed.

"You woke up and said nothing. I thought we were playing the silent game," Liam cheekily replied. He let go of Veronica so she could get off the bed. "Sleep well?"

Liam slept well as true to Veronica’s old habits she invaded his side of the bed and laid on him. She couldn’t escape doing it and he was glad she didn’t.

Veronica sat up and fixed her hair. The dream hadn’t come back but was it worth it to come here when the man beside her was grinning ear to ear? She gave him an entertaining morning. ’I should have stayed in my room and put up with the dream.’

"I did sleep well but your smile is starting to annoy me. I should get up to get ready for breakfast. I don’t want to be the reason we are late," Veronica said as she slipped off the left side of the bed.

Liam didn’t stop her since he had his fun this morning. She had nothing to be embarrassed about since all she did was use him as a large pillow.

The way she hustled out of the room, he knew that she wouldn’t be able to look him in the eye at breakfast.

"Time to get up," Liam said, for the first time in a while, energised in the morning.

Today was a day Liam knew he would enjoy.

In the city, Beth exited her bedroom to join the others for breakfast. The vibe in the home was uncomfortable since they returned from the charity event. Her uncle wasn’t happy that Liam would buy the building since he had no way of getting the money to outbid Liam for it.

Henry was taking his anger out on Evelyn which Beth thought to be stupid since he was the one who went on and on about the building. Other people were bound to become interested when he spoke highly of it before he bought it.

"Good morning," Evelyn greeted Beth.

"Good morning," Beth returned the greeting.

It was times like this when her uncle and Evelyn were arguing that Beth wished they would go ahead and give her an apartment. She could afford something small with the money she started to earn from her little fame on social media, but it was smarter to have someone else buy it for her.

Beth wasn’t ready to take care of her expenses by herself.

"Is my uncle coming out for breakfast?" Beth asked.

Evelyn could only smile since she didn’t have an answer. Henry was in a foul mood and she couldn’t take much more of it. "How about we go shopping today? You were telling me that you need to get more photos to post. The ones from the charity event look good."

"I’ve posted them already. I am just waiting for them to start trending to post more. They like the ones when I have expensive bags in the pictures or I am in a fancy restaurant. We should go out to eat too. I had someone comment that I am faking this life. The photos with celebrities last night should shut them up," said Beth.

Evelyn didn’t see any reason to be bothered by a little comment. "You’re a celebrity too. All my friends talk about your page. You should try to get more sponsors to make money. Should we get a manager? You might even be able to go into the acting world or better yet, be a model."

Beth liked the compliments coming from Evelyn. "I have heard that I should take modelling seriously. I should do it."

"Good. I know someone who might be able to get your first shoot. We’ll have to go there after I go to the art gallery. I need to send him a message that we are coming. Where is my phone?" Evelyn asked, looking around for it.

Beth frowned. Why was Evelyn thinking about going to see Veronica again? Didn’t she get enough of speaking to Veronica last night? "Don’t go."

"Why not? You said you wanted to try modelling. It’s best to use connections-"

"That’s not what I mean. Don’t go to her art gallery. Why do you want to speak to her so much? She won’t give you the money for the building. She made that clear so you’re just going to see her, aren’t you? You are going to see her and leave me," Beth said, her anger growing as she realised Evelyn’s plans.

Evelyn was left confused. "I am taking you with me to see her after we shop and eat. Then we were going to get you a modelling job. I am not going to leave you, Beth."

"You shouldn’t because I am all you have besides my uncle. I treated you like you were my mother. You shouldn’t leave me for her," Beth warned Evelyn.
