Chapter 126: Chapter 126

"Delusional? I am far from delusional. Why shouldn’t I get the chance to call Veronica? We talked before all of this so we were in a better place than in the past. She wants to meet you and I want to get out so let us trade places,’ Evelyn suggested.

"You are delusional. What makes you think I would want my daughter to be put in this little room? She won’t want to save you after how you treated her. You acted like she was a stranger to you and treated your husband’s niece like she was your world. I think Veronica would like seeing you here but as you said, you’re her mother," said Dean.

He would give Evelyn a little respect for her daughter to not see her like this.

Dean sat down on the bed. "That’s why I will enjoy seeing you here on her behalf. You have to be properly dealt with for how you treated your only child. For someone whose mother hardly paid attention to her, why couldn’t you have broken that trend in your family?"

"I don’t want to talk about my life with you," Evelyn said, annoyed that he knew so much about her.

"I could have ruined your sweet little life with how much I know about you. Just because you married that little man you think you’re better than me? You never killed anyone but I remember the things you did to survive. My little actress," Dean said teasingly. "You always wanted to make it big somehow to be in the spotlight."

"Who wants to remain in hiding because their husband goes around gathering enemies?" Evelyn replied.

Dean shrugged his shoulders. "I never hid what I did from you. You knew from the beginning and decided to stay. Even said yes when I asked you to marry me. I tried my best with you. We were just two messed up people trying to rely on each other. The one good thing we ever did was having Veronica."

"It was so good that you didn’t see her for years and left me to take care of her. I didn’t want to be a mother," Evelyn said, still frustrated years later that he put this burden on her.

"I’m sure you know what happens when two people sleep together. You were excited to have a daughter up until our marriage was done and you met a man who wanted you but you without a child. You’re a lot like your mother. I had to listen to years of you cursing your mother just for you to become her. I can’t get that time back," said Dean.

Evelyn stood up to get away from being so close to Dean. "I’m not here to talk about the past with you. I was young and dumb when I got with you."

"Now you’re old and foolish," Dean said, not seeing what had changed. "You had a chance to be better than your mother but you ruined it. Well, you did play mother to someone else."

"Beth treated me well from the first day I met her. I don’t need to be told about how I was from a man who couldn’t speak to his daughter in public. You’ll have her life in danger so that’s why you can’t speak to her now. Too bad she lost her memories so she doesn’t have anything to remember when it comes to her father," Evelyn said, enjoying how he couldn’t meet her eyes.

"I have no problem admitting that I am a terrible father. That’s where we are different. You couldn’t admit that Veronica needed more than the roof you put over her head. I do wish I could have offered her more than money and speak to her in person but I am too far deep into this business. I never thought about being a family man when I was younger," Dean shared.

Everything he did when he was younger had come back to bite him. Dean never thought he needed to get out of the business while he could and think about having a family. He was too caught up to think about what would happen if he had a child.

"I envy you a little. How you just up and left where we came from but I won’t lie that I don’t enjoy some of what I have now. Life would be a little perfect for me if Veronica was at least safe. In the beginning, I thought I just had to protect her from the people I pissed off but turns out I had to protect her from you too. Don’t bother her," Dean advised Evelyn.

Evelyn needed to be a little smarter. Why would he or anyone here hand her a phone for her to bother Veronica?

"It’s clear from how you’re acting now that you will not leave her alone. You’re always going to be after money and the spotlight. When this is done, we’re going home-"

"We?" Evelyn exclaimed. Dean had to be lost in the past since there wasn’t any we. "You must have forgotten that we aren’t we anymore. I am a married woman with a husband I need to return to."

"I’ll get you the divorce papers for you to sign. I am not asking you, Evelyn. I’m telling you what you’re going to do. I can’t have you bothering her anymore. Your husband is busy trying to salvage his dealership so once that is done, I’ll send the papers and someone to get your things," Dean informed Evelyn.

Evelyn didn’t like this plan. "I love my husband."

’Sure you do," Dean replied as he got up. "That’s why you tried to run away as soon as things got messy. If Henry doesn’t succeed in clearing up his image after supporting her with that car accident and then getting that dealership back on track, you weren’t going to stay. I know you," Dean said, reminding Evelyn that she couldn’t fool him.

Evelyn struggled too much at one point in time for her to allow Henry to pull her back into that situation.

Evelyn didn’t know what to say to stop him. Dean was in full control at the moment. He could kill her now and no one would know it. "I don’t want to be with you again. We stopped for a reason."

Dean laughed at Evelyn assuming he wanted to be with her again. "Don’t worry. I don’t want to be with you either. You’ve grown to annoy me. I’m just doing a favour to our daughter by getting you out of the city. "

"Eat up and stop throwing a tantrum. I just might get you something you like tomorrow if you behave," Dean said.

Evelyn thought she would be relieved when the door closed and she didn’t have to see Dean but now she was back to being alone again. She didn’t like where she was now but if Henry was losing everything then her life here was over. She’d be the wife of Henry Harper, the man who failed.

For now, being out of sight was better for Evelyn than being by Henry’s side to be mocked along with him.
