The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 125
Chapter 125: Chapter 125
A day later, Veronica was packed up and ready to leave with Liam. It was late in the night which should make it a little harder for them to be followed and Liam had Jerome rent a car so they wouldn’t be recognised faster then if they used the cars they owned.
Liam was tagging along with Veronica now but he would part from her if needed and leave her in Jerome’s hands.
Liam continued to check his phone for any messages from Dean to see if there was help needed but there wasn’t anything so far. If Dean was as stubborn as Veronica could be sometimes then Dean wasn’t going to ask for help even if he needed it.
Still, Liam was going to keep an eye on his phone and his grandfather’s movement through the men he had tailing his grandfather.
"Did Edna respond?" Veronica asked Liam as she came down the stairs with the last of her bags.
"I did. She knows not to come in for work unless I give her the call," Liam replied.
"Good. As long as she doesn’t call your mother to tell her we are not here then we are good. I still like Edna a lot but I think it is good we aren’t telling her where we are going. I hope we come back and find our home in one piece. I will be in the car," Veronica said, leaving the two to talk.
She knew they had their secret plans they didn’t want her to hear to keep her safe. As much as Veronica wanted to know what was happening around her, Veronica saw that she was long overdue for a vacation and needed a small break. She had been like a private investigator for months and now it was time to put down that hat.
Liam watched as Veronica almost skipped to the car. He hadn’t heard anything more about her mother or her being worried about her father and Vance anymore. Instead, Veronica was happy to go back to the beach again to try to get over her fear of deep water.
Jerome was puzzled by how normal Veronica seemed to be now. The way she greeted him when he first arrived didn’t feel like she was a little guarded when speaking to him. She whispered something about dealing with Liam if he were to work him too hard and asked where he planned to go for his honeymoon.
It was a conversation they had before her memories went away but now she was back to speaking about it. He was already told before his visit that she had her memories back but seeing it in person was different. It didn’t look like much had changed at first glance but he knew that this was the Veronica he knew.
"Why are you staring at my wife so much? Do you want me to start believing the rumours that you have feelings for my wife? I would hate to have to get rid of you too," Liam said jokingly.
Jerome smiled. "I will never have those kinds of feelings for your wife. It is just hard to wrap my mind around how she was so quiet one day and questioning everything around her but now she is smiling and skipping around. Our bodies are quite wonderful. Especially the mind."
Jerome looked away from Veronica. "I’m smiling because I am happy she’s back. I don’t have to try to retrace her steps anymore. I am also happy that you have your wife back fully now."
’Right. I will try to believe that you aren’t just happy about not having to work hard. We need to go before someone spots us," Liam said as he stepped out.
"We’ll get there in about three hours," Jerome informed Liam. "I have the extra key needed to get inside the community."
"You’ve sent your fiancee someone good?" Liam asked. Jerome could also become a target so he had to send his fiancee away.
"She’s somewhere safe and she’s enjoying it. I told her it was a preview of our honeymoon but without me there," said Jerome.
"You not being there might make it exciting," Liam teased Jerome.
Liam locked the front door and started to make his way to the car with Jerome.
Elsewhere in the city, Evelyn was still in a foul mood. The day was ending and she hadn’t seen Dean.
The food given to her wasn’t to her liking. What gave these men the thought that she wanted sloppy greasy food? She wanted something that suited her refined taste but they wouldn’t listen and kept offering her the same junk.
"It’s my fault for thinking these men know good food," Evelyn muttered.
Since they were treating her like this, why didn’t they just throw her in a place with no windows and no light? It couldn’t feel any different from how she was feeling now.
Evelyn sat on the bed with her arms folded. The news wasn’t showing her anything of interest like a report about Beth or Henry.
When the door opened, Evelyn didn’t bother to see who came to visit her. If they were going to offer her that nasty food again then she was going to lose her mind and throw it at someone. She didn’t care about the consequences at this point.
"Why haven’t you eaten? You would rather starve than eat? I hear this place is nice," Dean said, picking up the container from the floor. "I’m afraid I don’t have any steak and lobster to offer you so burgers and fries will have to do for now. You used to like going to that little place on the corner to get us burgers. Are you too good for that now?"
’Yes, I am. There’s nothing wrong with changing what you like to eat but of course, you will find a way to make me sound terrible for not wanting to eat that junk. I want some real food and answers to when you are going to let me go. If not, just kill me," Evelyn said since she knew she couldn’t hold out much longer like this.
"You say to kill you but if I were to point a gun at you now, you’d be begging me not to kill you. You’re not ready to die so stop throwing it around so carelessly and eat. This is all we have at the moment so eat until they go for something else tomorrow," Dean said, setting the now cold food down on the bed.
"I want to make a call to our daughter-"
Dean’s laughter interrupted Evelyn. "And what good is that going to do? Do you think after how you treated her, she will feel sorry for you? I hope you aren’t that delusional."
