The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 121
Chapter 121: Chapter 121
Benjamin slammed his hand repeatedly on the steering wheel of his car after Adeline didn’t answer him for the second day in a row. She read some of the messages he sent but would not send him a response or answer his calls.
Adeline should know by now that he wasn’t reaching out to her to bring her back to being his little helper. Benjamin was the one person listening to what Adeline wanted to do which was to be in control. All Adeline needed to do was return and help him get rid of their father.
After some thought about Liam’s offer, Benjamin decided to go to Adeline instead. She had a better chance of helping him take down their father. Benjamin didn’t trust Adeline more than Liam since she was more likely to stab him in the back at any given time but he just needed to be ready to stab her in the back first.
"Where the hell is she?" Benjamin wondered.
Everyone he asked said the same thing that they didn’t know where Adeline or Nathan went.
"They couldn’t have gone far," Benjamin said, knowing Adeline wouldn’t want to be far away from home. "Is he going to replace me with her?"
Benjamin knew the chance of Vance putting everything on Adeline was low but he didn’t like that there was even the smallest chance. He was nothing without Adeline. It had been hard to swallow this harsh truth but that didn’t mean Benjamin was ready to give up everything that his father had handed him.
"They’re not going to embarrass me,’ Benjamin muttered. He refused to let that happen. "Shit," he cursed, not knowing where to turn. His only option was to go back to Liam and finish the deal.
Benjamin was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Liam gave him a challenge and he couldn’t go to the men his father pissed off since they didn’t trust they could depend on him. He then had to be careful about who he mentioned taking down his father to since they might run to Vance looking to get back on his good side.
"I need a drink," Benjamin said, opening the bag filled with the drinks he bought on his way here. He frowned since the beer he liked was gone. "Nothing is going right for me," he sighed.
A knock on his car window startled Benjamin.
"What the hell?" Benjamin yelled, opening his door to see who was bothering him.
This was his place to think and be alone. It had been his spot since he was a teen and he needed to escape his home to have a break.
"Which news are you reporting for? Are you new? Didn’t they tell you not to follow me here?" Benjamin asked, grabbing a handful of the stranger’s shirt.
Every reporter should know the drill by now unless they wanted to be fired and blacklisted everywhere.
"Where’s your camera?" Benjamin asked, needing to find it so it could be destroyed.
Dean allowed Benjamin to have his moment of acting tough.
"I asked you who you worked for," Benjamin said, getting more frustrated by the second.
"I’m not a reporter and you need to stop before you ruin my favourite shirt. You’re Benjamin Smith, son of Vance Smith, right?" Dean questioned.
Benjamin let off the stranger who had to be insane. Anyone living in the city did not need to confirm who he was since they should be familiar with his face. "You’re a," he paused, his attention now on the car which was parked near his.
Benjamin knew from experience that it wasn’t it wasn’t a car any reporter could be driving around to find a story. Not unless they were stupid enough to get a loan to afford it so they could blend in with the people they were bothering.
Benjamin became concerned for his safety. This person wasn’t dressed like any of the reporters who normally followed him. "Who the hell are you?"
Had Vance found out what he was doing and sent someone to hurt him?
Benjamin tried to slowly move back to his car without it being noticed.
"My name doesn’t matter. What is important is us becoming friends. I have a bone to pick with Vance and word around the town is that you are going after him-"
"You’re mistaken," Benjamin said, not trusting the man before him. Who was going around saying that he was after his father?
"I don’t believe I am. You need to be careful who you speak to. For the right amount of money, they’ll sing about you. Perhaps it would make you happy to know that I threatened someone so they did not all betray you for money. You wrinkled my good shirt," Dean said, slightly bothered by his messy appearance. "I will let it slide just this once."
Benjamin was wary but still intrigued. "What did my father do to you? Wait, how did you know I was here?"
Dean thought Benjamin was joking about how he was found. "You made a trail leading to where you are. Are you surprised? You need to be more careful if you don’t want to be found. I want to hear how you plan to take down your father. I’m interested."
"I don’t know who you are and you think I am going to tell you anything? Who the hell sent you here? I’m not going up against anyone in my family so go find someone else to bother," Benjamin said and then started to get into his car.
Dean grabbed Benjamin’s shoulder to stop him from getting in the car. "I was trying to be nice as a new friend but you’re pissing me off. Get out," he dragged Benjamin out of the car. "It was easy for me to find out what you are doing. Do you think your father doesn’t know?"
Benjamin wasn’t worried about that until now. He couldn’t think of where he had slipped up to let his plans get out and most likely reach his father. "Fine, let’s say I don’t have to know your name. At least tell me why you want to help me. What did my father do to you?"
"He tried to hurt someone I love," Dean replied.
Benjamin wasn’t a stranger to hearing that his father did something like this. If you were useless, you were removed. "My father isn’t an easy man. I don’t know who the hell you are and what kind of power you have to go up against him so I don’t want my name attached to this."
"I don’t need you by my side," Dean said as he straightened out Benjamin’s shirt. "I just need your inside information."
