The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 112
Chapter 112: Chapter 112
Evelyn packed a small bag which should be more than enough to last her for a few days to clear her mind. Henry was yet to return after being out all night dealing with Beth.
This incident was bringing too much attention to the family with all the reports. Henry didn’t think to offer Evelyn a call like he didn’t consider she would be worried about Beth.
Evelyn wasn’t a stranger to how gossip worked and how she would be treated because of what Beth did. She wasn’t ready to face anyone asking how she felt or asking about Beth so she was going to leave the building and hide somewhere else.
Evelyn already thought about how angry Henry would be when he came home and found that she was not there. The first thought would be that she abandoned the family but what was she to do? Henry left her here where everyone knew to find them. Beth’s presence on social media and Henry’s dealership made this report interesting.
Evelyn left the apartment and kept her head low to avoid being spotted by anyone. All she needed to do was make it to her car without anyone bringing up her name. If she could just make it out of this building then she was safe.
She kept walking fast to make it to the car park where her damaged car still awaited her.
"I had enough of this," Evelyn muttered. Her life was crashing fast. "This wasn’t what I signed up for."
Evelyn jumped when she heard the sound of a car window rolling down. She was ready to yell at the person for scaring her but when she saw the face, it felt like her heart had stopped. "I-"
"Get in," came an order.
Evelyn stood still, her body engrossed in fear. Had she known such danger awaited her then she would have stayed inside.
"Evelyn, get in the damn car before I drag you inside."
Evelyn pulled the door open. He was already here which meant he had been watching her for some time now. There were two other men present who could pull her out of her car or follow her if she made a run for it.
Evelyn sat down in the car and closed the door. As soon as she did this, the car made its way out of the parking lot.
Evelyn was too nervous to speak at first but she had to know why he came to her. Was it because of what happened to Veronica? If it was, why did he wait so long to come to her? Was it because of Beth? If it was, that didn’t have anything to do with him.
She looked down at her lap, staring at the finger ring on her finger. "Why are you here?"
"My daughter was all over the news for an accident that almost killed her. Did you really think I wouldn’t have come to see what happened? You were supposed to take care of her," said Dean Griffin, Evelyn’s ex-husband.
Evelyn glanced at the gun he didn’t bother to hide. "You are supposed to stay away from us so we don’t get caught up in your mess. That was the deal for letting us leave."
’There was also a deal that you were going to take care of Veronica but you failed. You’ve built yourself quite a life and Veronica doesn’t seem to be part of it. What did she visit you for?" Dean asked.
Evelyn frowned. "How long have you been watching me? I told you not to come around me anymore. I finally got away from all the trouble you brought into my life. If I had listened to the advice from everyone around me, I wouldn’t have gotten caught up in your mess. It was hard to raise a daughter alone. The money you sent wasn’t enough."
Dean inspected the gun in his hand. "Then why would you marry a man who made you take care of his niece? Wasn’t that hard too? I’m curious about the relationship with that little family. What role did Veronica have in all of it?"
"I remember everything I told you. It was getting too dangerous for her and you wanted to leave me. All you needed to do was take her somewhere safe to take care of her while I sent you money. Explain to me why our daughter had to be looking for scholarships and searching around shabby places for a room?" Dean asked, waiting for an answer that for Evelyn’s sake should put him in a better mood.
Evelyn didn’t consider how much Dean might have kept an eye on Veronica. He wasn’t to pay them any mind at all so no one would think about his old family.
"Drive us to a secluded beach. It seems my ex-wife needs a bit of motivation to speak," said Dean.
"I don’t need any motivation. Your daughter turned rebellious over the years and when she couldn’t have her way, she moved out to live on her own. You should be proud that she wanted to take care of herself and look how wonderful life is for her now," Evelyn said, not seeing a reason for Dean to be upset. "Stop following me."
"Why didn’t she have any of the money I was sending for her? That should have been enough for her to pay off tuition and find a good place to live for a good couple of years. What happened to that money? You’re smart not to put it in your husband’s hands," Dean said, knowing Evelyn would never let money slip her hands.
"I took care of Veronica and when she was of age, I stopped taking care of her. If you were so concerned, why didn’t you approach her? No one told you to keep being someone’s dirty messenger boy and make so many enemies. I gave her a better life here than she could have had with you," Evelyn argued.
"The more I look into it, it doesn’t look like you treated her well. It seemed fine on the outside but it doesn’t make sense she would put herself through what she did just to get away from you. I gave you one thing to do. The least you could do was give her the money," Dean said, angry that the one person he trusted with his daughter couldn’t keep her safe.
"I gave her what she needed over the years. As you can see, she ended up with a very rich man-"
"She ended up almost dead. Start talking before I have you wash up dead somewhere," Dean said, giving Evelyn the chance to save herself.
