Chapter 111: Chapter 111

Veronica laid on the carpet with Liam’s shirt covering her to keep her warm. She was not in the mood to leave just yet so she decided to lay around before she got up to take a shower.

Liam laid behind Veronica. He checked that the doors were locked and then came back to Veronica. "What is on your mind?"

"Everything. It’s good that you didn’t listen to your mother. Even if I wasn’t in your life, you should have stayed away from the Smiths. Your uncle did nothing to prove he wouldn’t turn on you but that’s nothing new when it comes to Benjamin. It’s still disappointing," Veronica said.

It would have worked out well for them if Benjamin was going to turn on Vance. It would be even better if Adeline decided to join but that was not going to happen. Veronica didn’t trust that Adeline would be out of the city for long and even if she was, she could still be communicating to her father.

"You should ask your father how your mother is these days. Has she moved on or is she acting suspicious? I don’t have any idea who else is involved so we need to keep an eye on your mother and uncle at least. Then when this is done, let’s go on a trip. Somewhere very far away from here for a break," Veronica suggested.

"Should we go wherever Jerome is having his honeymoon so I can make him work?"

"Certainly not! This is why Jerome secretly complains to me about you. You’re trying to torture him with work. I can’t have you do that because then you will lose him and it’ll be hard to find someone as loyal as Jerome again. Your wedding gift to him should be paying for his honeymoon trip," Veronica said, knowing Jerome would love it. "Anything to get a break from you."

"I am starting to dislike the way the two of you team up on me. Why is he going to my wife about his problems? He’s lucky I like him," Liam said since Jerome was the only person who could get away with this.

"You let it slide because you can’t do without him. He’s always one step ahead to get what you need. I guess I should stop being so close to him when I visit your office or not visit at all. We don’t need any more assumptions that I am having an affair with Jerome especially when he is so close to getting married. Who wants that after a wedding?" Veronica asked as she turned on her side to look at Liam.

Liam moved her hair to be over her shoulder. It was still a little damp which concerned him but Veronica didn’t want to get up yet. He reached for the towel he grabbed when he checked the doors to finish drying her hair. "Why would you let that stop you from coming to my office?"

He continued to say, "I’ve already put out a warning about spreading false information around the office about anyone. I am not the only one they can hurt with their gossip. Seeing that Nora was fired, the office is a little bit quiet now and work is being done. They should relax in a few weeks."

Veronica’s mind was made up. "I’m still not going to visit for a while. I need to go back to my art gallery and properly finish what I was planning to do before. There’s so much that I left off that I need to get back to fast."

"It’s a little unbelievable that I had another sit down with my mother. I never planned to have one of those again. I wonder what she did about Beth," Veronica said, curious about what Evelyn thought of Beth now. "She might be preparing to help Beth get out of this. Henry has been silent. Did they not tell him anything? Did he reach out to you?"

"No, not that I know. They are most likely going to do something stupid to get us to hand back the phone like that would ever happen. Henry has a big mouth so what he or Beth did will slip at some point. I am hoping he will come to try to bribe me," said Liam.

There wouldn’t be anything more entertaining than seeing Henry think he could bribe Liam.

"I’m going to get rid of that dealership. For all the trouble that they put you through over the years you lived with them, they need to suffer. I’ve stopped myself from doing it in the past because you didn’t want to harm them. I can’t anymore," Liam gave Veronica a heads up.

"Revenge isn’t always sweet and why should I have thought about ruining them when I was happy? That dealership was destined to fail the second Henry got his hands on it. I don’t know why he didn’t try to sell it before it got this bad. It’s obvious that he isn’t selling many cars now so do whatever you want with it," said Veronica.

Veronica sat up to find the remote to turn on the television since the house was too quiet for her liking. Before she could lay down, the news caught her attention. "Beth?"

Liam found the night to be a good one in a long time. His wife was back, they slept together, and now Beth was hiding her face after being found to be the person involved in a hit-and-run. "Should we get some wine and popcorn to watch? That wasn’t our fault."

"I know. I would be crazy to blame myself for Beth doing this. She’s done a lot of stupid things over the years but this one takes the cake. She can’t get out of this. How could she hit someone and leave?" Veronica wondered.

Liam wasn’t surprised Beth would do that. "This is the same woman who knows you have a fear of deep water and pushed you into a pool tonight. Why is it surprising that she would run after hitting someone with her car? And there goes Henry by her side."

"My mother is not there," Veronica noticed.

Veronica was curious about what was going through her mother’s head now. Was Evelyn trying to find a way to get Beth out of this now or was she thinking about herself and trying to leave?

"She wouldn’t have found herself in a lot of trouble for my phone. Is this her way of being punished? I just hope anyone she hurt tonight will be fine. It’s unfortunate that they were hurt because she’s so careless. It looks like he’s arguing. Why do they have it muted?" Veronica asked, annoyed she couldn’t hear what Henry was saying.

"He has to be cursing too much for them to bleep it out successfully. This will spread around fast by morning so we’ll know what he said then. It’s about time you took a warm bath and then headed to bed. I’ve already scheduled an appointment with your doctor tomorrow," Liam informed Veronica. "We can’t do anything about Beth now."

Quite frankly, Liam didn’t want to do anything concerning Beth tomorrow or the day after that.

"Beth screwed herself for us and there’s no way for her to get out of this. I would be surprised if Henry were to succeed in getting her out of this with a slap on the wrist," said Liam.

If Beth didn’t get the punishment she deserved then Liam would take it into his own hands to create a public outcry against her. The public wouldn’t like to see her get off so easily.

"My uncle is going to end up doing the same if he doesn’t stop his drinking and driving. If he does, my grandfather might either add something else to it to put him away for a few years or kill him. To lose my mother and uncle might make him do something stupid. It’s good for you to stay away from your mother for now," Liam advised Veronica.

Veronica didn’t need her name attached to the Harpers now. Liam was willing to bet that Beth was going to mention Veronica and the party they attended tonight but try to leave out that she pushed Veronica into a pool.

Veronica listened to Liam and to what the reporter was saying. She never thought there would come a day when she would see Beth facing some kind of backlash.

Everyone was always sweet to Beth since she lost her parents. They wouldn’t believe Veronica that Beth had another side she only showed when they were alone so Veronica stopped trying to tell anyone.

The kind of person everyone said Beth was should have stayed and helped anyone she hurt or not have been driving tonight. What was going to be the excuse now? Was it going to be that someone upset her?

Veronica laid back down by Liam, wanting to be near him a little longer before she got up to shower.

Seeing that Beth was on the path to being punished, Veronica hoped this was the sign that others were going to start getting what was coming to them.
