The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 107
Chapter 107: Chapter 107
"I swear I don’t understand Clark sometimes. Now, where did we leave off?"
"You were getting close to a response from your father," Liam reminded Veronica.
"Right. It was hard but I managed to find where my mother and I lived before we came here. I made a lot of calls to businesses who were in the town for years and one of them remembered my mother’s face. It’s the restaurant I have a photo of on my phone. My parents used to go there once in a while," Veronica recalled.
"I wasn’t able to get a photo of him and no one wanted to give a name but a little after I called about my mother, someone reached out to me with a threat. I happened to mention I was looking for my father and never got a response from them. About my apartment," Veronica remembered Liam wanting to look into it. "Just when I went to rent it, someone bought it and lowered the rent."
Veronica found it to be suspicious after talking to someone she knew on the same floor. "Even the price I bought it for was cheaper than what it was originally going for when the owner thought about selling. I don’t see anything wrong with the apartment for the price to just drop. It’s small but everything was perfect. I remember thinking I got a good deal."
It was perfect timing for Veronica at the time since she wasn’t living with the Harpers anymore and when she started school, she was only able to take one job. She didn’t have enough money for most of the rooms she looked at but was able to find the apartment.
"Back then, it should have been suspicious how the lady called me back and said the rent was lowered by a lot but I was so blinded by having a place I could afford. I doubt she felt sorry for me and wanted to lower it. She still acted like she was the one who owned and wrote her name when she sold it to me. It wasn’t easy for me to go back to her," said Veronica.
Veronica knew she was getting closer to her father when every time she had a lead either the person she went to wouldn’t speak or anyone she hired to investigate it came back with nothing. There was always a large brick wall stopping her from going further.
"I feel like I am close so while you deal with your grandfather, I am going to keep trying to get a response from my father. It would be quite the twist if it was my mother helping me all along but I don’t think that’s possible. I wouldn’t like it if she was being a mother to me in secret anyway," Veronica said, standing up from the bed.
Veronica went to Liam and took the clothes from his hands. "Let me get changed first and then we’ll go home. I want to see the end of you stripping for me and if it’s good, I’ll reward you."
"You should be careful," Liam warned Veronica. "I won’t end it regardless of what disruption is sent to us."
"Good. I don’t want you to leave either. Why did I end my fun to have you speak to Benjamin? I would have never done that in the past. Let’s go home fast before someone comes sneaking around looking for pictures to take of us," Veronica said, having had enough of the party.
’Let me help you," Liam offered. "What the hell did Clark bring you?" He asked, only now realising what Veronica had to wear.
"It looks like an extra uniform from the staff working tonight. I don’t mind since they look like good material. I’ll need to borrow your jacket so I don’t end up in tomorrow’s headlines for going back to being a waiter despite being married to you. I can already see the headlines that we’re about to divorce." said Veronica.
Away from the party, Beth tried to make her way back home.
It was hard to do because she was drunk but she was still in denial about it. Beth had run out of the party before she had time to sober up. Everyone was looking at her and talking about how she pushed Veronica so she couldn’t stay there. They wouldn’t allow her to explain.
"Oh!" Beth abruptly stopped the car. She almost hit a few trash cans left on the sidewalk. "Just go slow. We’re almost there," she whispered.
Beth needed to see her uncle right now and tell him what happened for him to come up with a plan. She screwed up this time since there were a lot of people around to see what she had done it.
Still, her uncle couldn’t abandon her. Evelyn wouldn’t allow him to since it wasn’t like she had killed anyone. It was a party with a pool so it was normal for some people to get pushed into the water.
Beth laughed away the fear that she was in trouble. Nothing should come out of this over something so silly.
Beth steered the car away from the sidewalk and continued to drive toward home. The building was in sight so she didn’t have long to go. Her mistake was looking up at the building instead of looking at the road.
It was too late for Beth to turn when she finally noticed the pole right next to a small hotdog stand. The car collided with the pole, damaging both the front of the car and pushing the pole back. Beth’s saving grace was the seat belt she put on when she got into the car but she had still hit her head on the window.
Beth closed her eyes as a pain, unlike anything she felt before came over her. The world was spinning too fast for her. She already wasn’t sober and now she had to deal with this. She heard noises around her but didn’t notice they were people yelling at her at first.
It was only when Beth opened her eyes and looked ahead to where all the damage was that she noticed there were people around. This made her panic. She could get in trouble for this.
Beth reached for her door to open it so she could leave before the police came but the door wouldn’t open. It was either damaged badly or something on the outside was blocking it.
Beth took off her seatbelt, grabbed her bag and made her way over to the other door. She ignored the pain she felt as she made her escape. She didn’t listen to the questions from the people who started to gather when she managed to open the other door.
Instead, Beth kept her sights on home and ran there for Henry to help her.
