The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 108
Chapter 108: Chapter 108
Beth continued to ignore the looks she received from the people she ran by. Now that she had made it to the apartment building, the calls of the people who witnessed the crash were no longer heard.
Beth slowed down so as not to make herself look more suspicious than she already was. Her head was bruised and since she had been running where others walked she brought attention to herself. She stumbled, almost falling when she stepped inside the front doors.
Beth was sobering up fast because of the trouble she was in. She was frantic and worried about what would happen after this. It was all an accident so all they needed to do was let her explain. They needed to hear about why she was in such a rush. It was all because of Veronica and the party owner.
She couldn’t think of the name of the man the party was for but she could remember his face. She was so caught up in wanting to have a good time to forget about Liam having the phone that she ignored how close Liam was to the man who invited her.
"They set me up,’ Beth muttered.
Why would someone close to Liam invite her to a party?
They had this all planned to get to her. From the drinks to her pushing Veronica in the pool for so many people to see.
Beth touched her head. She never got so drunk before at a party.
"Uncle!" Beth yelled when she entered the apartment.
Evelyn was the first one to hear Beth yelling. "Beth, do you have any idea what time it is? And where were you? I thought you had been home. What’s wrong with your head?" Evelyn asked, approaching Beth for a closer look. "Beth, how did you hurt your head?"
"I had a car accident," Beth cried, hugging Evelyn to feel better. "The car is wrecked and I didn’t know what to do so I ran here to get your help."
Evelyn was concerned at first but then she had to take a step back after hearing what Beth said. "You ran? You left the scene and ran here? Beth," Evelyn pinched the bridge of her nose. They did not need this right now. "How could you be so stupid to run? Were there people around when you ran?"
Beth nodded her head. "They were all yelling at me instead of trying to help. I could have lost my life but they just wanted to be angry."
Evelyn placed her hands on Beth’s shoulders. "Did you hit anyone? Did you at least check that?"
"I didn’t hit anyone. I’m sure I didn’t because all I saw was the hotdog stand. Those people shouldn’t be there wanting hotdogs at this time anyway-"
"Beth!" Evelyn yelled, both frustrated and upset that Beth wasn’t getting how serious this was. If Beth hit someone and their injuries were serious, there wasn’t a way for Beth to get past this. "Beth, you need to hope that no one was hurt or died. You left your car behind so it won’t be hard for the police to find you."
"What are you lecturing her about now? Did you hit her?" Henry asked, rushing to get to Beth. "What the hell happened?" He questioned Evelyn after he saw Beth’s face. Beth didn’t look anything like how he last saw her.
"This is why I said we should stay and have a nice family dinner tonight but no. The two of you wanted to be alone. She wrecked her car and ran here. Beth doesn’t know if she hit someone because she ran," Evelyn said, hoping Henry would finally give Beth a good talk.
They needed to get Beth out of there. Beth had to go back to where she left her car.
"She can forget about her wanting to model. There’s got to be a lot of cameras where she hit if she was so close to home so someone is going to post it and it is going to make her look bad. We’ll look bad depending on how we handle this situation with Beth," said Evelyn.
Now was the time for Henry to finally allow Beth to receive a good scolding. It was unfortunate it would have to come from the police and a court but Beth needed this.
It upset Evelyn that Beth didn’t have her place yet so Beth wouldn’t have ran here. She loved Beth but not so much when Beth was dragging down this family name. This on top of what happened with Veronica was enough reason for Evelyn to consider leaving Henry but there was too much for her to gain if this crashed for Henry and Beth.
"Give it a rest," Henry said, not wanting to hear Evelyn right now.
Beth must have been scared since her parents went through something like this. She could have almost died and then what would Henry have been left with? They had to go easy on Beth because of her trauma.
"Beth, tell me exactly what happened," Henry said in a comforting tone.
Beth’s face was ruined by her makeup starting to run because of her tears. "It’s Liam’s fault that I was in a rush to get home. They set me up. They were serving a lot of drinks and then those two showed up. She was trying to get me riled up so I pushed her and she fell in the water. Why doesn’t someone her age know how to swim?"
"You did what?" Evelyn asked, not believing that Beth would be so stupid. "You pushed her into what water?"
"Into a pool. She shouldn’t have been standing so near it or been at a party with a big pool when she couldn’t swim. I wanted to explain but someone grabbed my hand and they were all feeling sorry for her so I got into my car before I had the chance to sober up. Uncle, I would never do this," Beth said, knowing he would understand her.
"I know," Henry replied. She should be the last person to be so careless on the road because of how her parents died. "I just don’t know what to do. You did two stupid things tonight for too many people to see. The police are going to come here."
"We need to take her back to where she left the car and call a lawyer. Someone could be hurt back there. There’s no way she’s going to avoid getting arrested tonight so let’s try to not make ourselves look bad," Evelyn suggested.
It was only Beth here who would look bad so far so Evelyn had to think of herself and Henry.
"Evelyn, you’re not helping right now so why don’t you stay home? I’m going to take a look at her car and take Beth to the hospital. I’ll call you if something happens," Henry said, his focus on Beth’s state rather than what Evelyn was saying.
Evelyn stood alone since the two left her. Henry needed to stop seeing Beth as the little girl who was terrified and needed a parent. She was grown now and making too many silly mistakes that Henry let her get away with.
"I need to get out of here," Evelyn said, knowing there was soon going to be a point where the Harpers were in serious trouble.
By morning, this would have spread with Beth’s face plastered everywhere. The dealership would certainly come up which meant Henry and possibly Evelyn’s face would come up. Evelyn couldn’t show her face now for her peers to speak about her.
...
Away from the Harper’s home, Veronic entered the front door after Liam opened it for her. She pulled on his shirt to get him to follow her to the living room.
Edna already left at the same time they had left for the party so they were left alone to do what they wanted.
Veronica couldn’t wait for them to reach home so she teased Liam by putting her hand under his shirt and then at times placed her hand on his thigh and acted like she was going to touch him elsewhere.
She was playing with fire but Veronica loved this dangerous game.
Veronica pushed Liam back for him to fall over the arm of the long couch and made her way to straddle him. "When was the last time we had some fun down here? I can’t remember so now would be a good time for you to remind me."
Liam placed his hand on Veronica’s waist. She raked her fingers through her hair, trying her best to make it better since her hair was still damp and not as perfectly styled as she had it before. He fed into her act that she knew nothing. "I believe it was the night of our wedding anniversary. I owe you a strip tease but that night, you were the one who put on a show for me."
Veronica pulled the shirt she borrowed over her head and tossed it to the side. She didn’t waste time removing her bra since it was damp and uncomfortable to wear. "Is that so? I’m in too much of a hurry here to put on a show for you so I guess we’ll owe each other."
