The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 106
Chapter 106: Chapter 106
Liam called Clark to find them a room with a shower and to get Veronica a change of clothes. Rather than make the trip back home, they would stay until Veronica felt better.
"Here. I’m sorry about what happened. I should have gotten her out of there when I saw her," Clark said, seeing it as his fault since it was his people who invited Beth. "Is Veronica alright?"
"She is cold but other than that she’s fine. If anything changes I will tell you but as of right now, don’t worry. It’s not your fault either. Where is Beth right now?" Liam asked.
"Well, she ran the first chance she got. There’s only one place she could go which is to her uncle. Even if the police go to her, she’ll just get a slap on the wrist for pushing Veronica. I’m sure her uncle would fight it and drag it out. Why don’t you stop playing the nice guy?" Clark questioned, leaning on the door frame.
"I’m not telling you to be like your relatives. I see things in the news concerning politics and I just get the feeling that it’s your uncle or grandfather. You don’t have to go that low but if you’re impatient for justice then take matters into your own hands," Clark suggested.
"I prefer not to do anything crazy to have Veronica have to look at me through a glass window if she wants to see me but I will take care of it. I’m not going to tell you to drag you into this," Liam said, seeing this as his problem only.
"I would help. Veronica is like a sister to me and what they did isn’t right. I can at least ruin Beth’s little life for you. I have all the connections to not get her invited to events like this and stop all offers for her to promote products on her page. That’s the least I can do for you," Clark said, wanting to be involved.
Clark couldn’t do anything with Veronica’s incident on the boat so doing this would make up for it.
"That would make a good early birthday gift for me. I’ll leave that to you then. Are you still close to that reporter-"
"Of course not!" Clark exclaimed, looking over his shoulder. "Are you trying to get in trouble with my future wife? I’m not close to anyone at all."
"Why are you being so loud? She’s not here and I didn’t know you were that close to the reporter. If you weren’t such a dog before you wouldn’t have to worry about your past affecting your future. So that’s why she published a few bad things about you," Liam said, finally understanding her reasoning. "You can go back to your party."
"Hey!" Clark followed Liam inside the room. He closed the door behind them. "Let’s get one thing clear first. I ended things with her. It’s not my fault that she didn’t like that I got engaged. Isn’t it against something for her to write about me in a bad light when she’s upset? I should sue her."
"Yes. Sue a woman from your past and let the woman you want to marry find out. That sounds smart. Just ignore it. I hope you don’t mind if I reach out to her. She’s been reporting on anyone regardless of how dangerous it is," said Liam.
Clark saw it as a betrayal but also, if she was distracted then she wouldn’t say anything about him. "Go ahead. If you’re going to put out anything about your family, be careful. Once they have nothing to lose they’ll want to drag everyone down with them. They won’t care that it’s you if they find out you had a hand in ruining them."
"I’m aware. If things get too messy, I might send Veronica to be with you for you to take her out of the city. She’s an easy target for-"
’I am not going anywhere," Veronica announced as she exited the bathroom. "When you say things like that, it makes me feel like you’re about to get into something really dangerous and I won’t be around to do anything if you get in trouble."
Veronica walked to the bed with a towel wrapped around her. She sat down and looked at the two men. "I know that it is safe for me to be out of the city if you go after your grandfather but I have something important to do. I need to go to my father."
"Father? I thought you didn’t have a father," Clark said and soon regretted his response when Veronica glared at him. He touched his chest. "I forgot how frightening you could be. I meant that you never spoke of your father. You didn’t even like speaking about Henry."
"Well, Henry is not my father and I’ve never looked to him as my stepfather. My mother would try to push it but I saw how it bugged him a little when I tried to call him that. My real father is alive and lives in the country. I got close to getting a response from him but then this happened," Veronica pointed to her head.
"I never noticed it before but your life is full of a lot of drama,’ said Clark.
"Really? You only notice it now, Clark? Then again your attention span has always been short. Surprisingly, you were able to run a successful company or should I give all the thanks to your employees?" Veronica wondered.
"Certainly not! I had to find a way to make myself money and as someone who attended a lot of parties, I saw the importance of having good drinks. That’s all me. Where is the loving Veronica who was being nice to me? I feel like you’re back to your evil self," Clark said, getting the feeling the memory loss was just a joke.
"Evil self? I don’t think that’s right. I’ve missed you a lot, Clark. If only a certain someone would have brought you to me sooner. As fun as it is to tease you, I would like to be alone with Liam for a moment. I also need to get dressed and you’ve seen me sitting here in this towel far too long," said Veronica.
Clark didn’t see what the big deal was. "I’ve seen you in worse states than this. Don’t have any sex in this room. I’m just renting this home for the party and the cleaning fee is already going to be hell. I don’t need a cleaner to come pointing out what you guys left in here. You can if you leave here spotless and I don’t want to hear how you would do that."
Veronica touched her forehead. "Clark, please get out!"
