Chapter 103: Chapter 103

"I know the two of you want to put me as the person who tried to harm you but it wasn’t me. I know that you don’t have your memories and you’re just pretending so it’s easy for you to assume it’s me because of him," Beth looked at Liam. "How are you so sure that he wasn’t the one who tried to kill you?"

The more Beth talked, the more Veronica smelled the alcohol she consumed. Maybe Beth didn’t know how strong the drinks she had were. It was easy to get too relaxed here with the music so loud and everyone in a good mood.

"I am not doing this here with you," Veronica said, stepping away from Beth. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to know what Beth knew, but this might go bad with Beth drunk.

"No, we are going to do this now before the two of you try to put something on me that I didn’t do. It was either him or one of his relatives, not me. You need to start questioning your husband," Beth said, her voice unintentionally loud.

"I didn’t try to kill my wife," Liam replied. He had been through this before and each time, his answer would be the same. Still, he was interested in what Beth had to say about one of his relatives. "You witnessed something. Is that how you got the phone? It would be smart for you to speak up now instead of hiding the truth."

"I didn’t do anything to her," Beth repeated.

She was mindful of what Henry said about the real culprit coming after her. Veronica was married to Liam Sterling yet he couldn’t protect her from the person after Veronica.

"You did do something. You kept a phone that did not belong to you and didn’t speak about anything you might have seen when you were questioned about your whereabouts. If you didn’t do something then why be so secretive? You’re approaching us because you are guilty of something," said Veronica.

They might hate each other but if the roles were reversed with Veronica knowing what happened to Beth, she would speak. No one should have so much hate for another person that they just stay silent.

Veronica refused to believe that Beth stayed quiet because she feared the person who hurt Veronica coming after her. Beth was one of the people who wished she wouldn’t open her eyes.

"I am not guilty of anything. So what if I had your phone? You wanted to meet with me so I did. You don’t have any way of proving I did something to you and you can’t because I didn’t do anything. You came into my home to take your phone so you also committed a crime. Just leave me alone now," Beth said, not wanting to be dragged into what she didn’t do.

"Beth," Veronica sighed. "It is right that we got it the wrong way but you were lying from the very beginning. You’re not innocent on some parts of this and since I know you aren’t going to speak on what you saw, please leave us alone. You’ll get what you deserve somehow."

Beth grew even angrier with Veronica still trying to accuse her when she said that it wasn’t her. All she had was a phone that anyone could have picked up. "You’re just angry that your mother loves me more. Evelyn knows about all of this and she’s on my side. Is that why you want me to be the culprit so bad?"

Veronica couldn’t take much more of this. "Beth, you should go sit down since you aren’t in a good state to speak to anyone. You need to sober up and then leave."

"Don’t act like you care about me. You always do this. You always like to put on a show when it comes to me. No one sees through how you try to play nice. I know the real you," said Beth.

Veronica didn’t care what Beth thought she knew. Beth didn’t see her ways so what did she know about anyone else? "Liam, we should find somewhere else to stand. She’s not going to tell us the truth and if she does say something, she’s not in a good state for it to be accurate."

"I just told you the truth. You just don’t like listening to me. I said his family was the one who did it, so how does it feel sleeping with one of your killers?" Beth questioned, her lips curling into a smile. "Was it worth it going after him to make me angry? You almost died because you wanted to make me jealous."

"Enough," Liam said, stepping it since Beth was talking about things that didn’t matter. He wanted her to stay focused on what she might have seen. He didn’t doubt her claims that his family was involved. He wanted to hear which one. "You should speak now. If one of my relatives were involved, if they find out you were around then you will die."

Beth shook her head. She did not believe that. She wasn’t her target. "I would only die if you go around telling lies. You set her up. Why did you go and marry her when you were set up with someone like me? This could have been avoided if you just married someone in the same league as you."

"And you thought we were equal?" Liam wanted to laugh. "Let’s go," he offered his hand to Veronica.

Beth did not enjoy seeing them be so close even after she revealed that someone from his family did it. This was why she didn’t want to share what she knew because they would not listen to the truth and try to blame her.

Veronica accepted Liam’s hand and walked around Beth to find a quiet corner if one existed. It didn’t come as a surprise to hear Beth still speaking about her stealing Liam as they tried to walk away.

Veronica just had to conclude that her days out would be like this. There wasn’t going to be any peace attending these events.

"Hey," Clark met up with them again. "What’s happening? I can call security for you."

Veronica left Liam and Clark to decide how they would escort Beth out without causing a scene that would steal Clark’s spotlight. She looked back at the pool which was near again because of where they stopped. She needed to visit the beach to try going further into the water again.

’I should go under next time,’ Veronica thought.

"I said I didn’t do anything," Beth repeated.

Liam let go of Veronica’s had to block Beth from getting close to her again.

Clark got onto his phone to speak with security about coming for Beth. He apologised to Liam and Veronica in between the calls for having to deal with this now when they should be having fun. He didn’t look over the list of the influencers invited to attend the party since he was busy with other things.

"It is fine. We are cursed with having these people bother us," Veronica replied to calm Clark down. She didn’t think he purposely invited Beth here to mess with them.

Clark’s party was on the verge of being ruined by their drama.

Beth didn’t know what came over her. It might have been what Veronica said and the way she laughed or the alcohol burning up her body along with how scared she had been since yesterday. This was not the first time she had drunk a lot since finding out that the phone was missing.

What else could she do when not even Henry had a solution to her problems?

It happened before Beth could think about her actions and the consequences of it. There were so many people around like her friends who had their phones out to record themselves at the party so there was evidence of what she did.

Beth only snapped out of it when she heard screaming and she was grabbed by someone. She looked down at the water where there was a lot of splashing and Liam jumped in to get Veronica. "I didn’t mean to," she tried to voice but everyone was too focused on Veronica to listen to her.

In the water, it felt like a long time under the water for Veronica. The awful dream she had where she fell off the side of a boat came back. This time, it continued to where she saw the face of a man leaning over to check that she was going down.

Veronica closed her eyes, not feeling that Liam had grabbed her and was taking her out of the water. She was forced to relive that awful day again and along with what she experienced now, Veronica remembered the fear she felt the first time she went through this more vividly.

"Veronica," she heard Liam’s voice. It was the only comforting thing in all of this.

Veronica wanted to ask him to find a way to stop the pain that came over her now but she was too consumed by fear to speak. Liam’s voice soon became lost amongst all the panicking voices around her.

Veronica opened her eyes as she coughed out the water she had swallowed. She turned on her side, trying to catch her breath. She heard the questions being thrown at her with many wanting to know if she was alright but fear was replaced by disbelief which left her still unable to speak for a moment.
