Chapter 102: Chapter 102

There appeared to be more of Liam’s friends here than he led on since a few stopped them and Liam entertained a conversation with them.

"You are smiling like you found that cake you’ve been telling me about," Liam said, noticing her happiness.

"This party is still grand but I do feel relaxed. Maybe it’s because it’s not a serious event. Everyone is relaxed and having fun. This is how it should be. What are the drinks with the lights in them?" Veronica asked, drawn to it because of the colour.

Liam stopped her hand from reaching for one of the drinks. "Again, Clark is sometimes stuck in his college days so that drink will be full of alcohol. I’ll be drinking but with the way you eyed that pool, you shouldn’t drink something so strong."

Liam could smell the alcohol from where they stood.

"Liam!" He heard the voice of a man who would look for him to spend money tonight. "Why aren’t you getting a drink? I purposely had a few added to the list so you and Veronica could relax. You’ve been through a lot."

"Veronica!" Clark hugged her. "Good to see you didn’t die on us. I would have visited your home but someone forbade guests," he pointed to Liam as the culprit.

"I saved her from all the presentations you wanted to give her about the newest drink you’ve come up with. She already told you no to selling any of your alcohol in her museum. The answer won’t change," Liam told Clark.

Clark still saw a chance. "That’s coming from you. Word on the street is that Veronica here is a lot more patient these days. That comes from a certain someone saying she has memory loss. I know it might be true because she didn’t glare at me as soon as she saw me."

Clark knew Veronica too well to be fooled by her not losing her memories. He almost missed how she would have scolded him for the tiniest details about the party that were going to cost him money.

Clark stepped forward to hug Veronica again. "I could do with one of your lectures now but I am glad to have you here however you are. Don’t scare me like that. What’s wrong with you?" He tapped her hand playfully.

"I’m sorry?" Veronica apologised.

Clark seemed to be a lively person.

"You really are different. How are you holding up? I wouldn’t know how to feel if I were you," Clark said to Liam. "She’s alive but she’s not the Veronica that we know."

"I’m fine. It’s her who needs to be looked after and you at times. You’re trying to promote a drink but must everything be full of alcohol? You should want your guests to leave here without any incidents. Decrease how much alcohol you have. I can smell it when the waiters pass by," said Liam.

Clark placed his hand on Liam’s shoulder. "Relax. Everyone is warned about which ones are strong drinks and you can find a bar to get your drink simple. Veronica, you should know that there was a time when I told you that I loved you. I suspected the two of you were together but you wouldn’t tell me so I thought the best way was to tell you that I wanted to be with you."

Veronica wondered if this was the man Liam told her about. The one who knew they were together but still tried to pursue her.

Clark touched his jaw. "He almost punched me in the face but I got what I needed to know. I never understood why you never tried to tell me and while we’re on the topic of upsetting Liam, Beth is here. I didn’t know until I just saw her. She’s on the list of guests we use to advertise on their pages. I can get her to leave."

Veronica looked around for where Beth was. It couldn’t be helped that they were going to keep running into each other. For the first time, Veronica didn’t mind since she wanted to see Beth’s reaction to realising they were around.

Veronica found Beth standing with other women who looked to be around her age taking photos of the brand signs placed around the party. "You don’t need to send her away. She’s here to advertise for you so let her do that. It was nice to see you, Clark. Why are you flinching?"

Clark wanted to hug her again but at the same time, he didn’t want to draw too much attention to them. "Because you were always like a grumpy older sister who would set me straight. We all need to get together for some dinner. Everyone has been worried about it but we couldn’t get through to your phone and Liam wants you all to himself."

"I do understand not wanting to meet with any of your friends because it’ll be obvious when you don’t remember much about all of us. I can wait a little longer and then we can have a big party. I’ll leave you two to enjoy yourselves. I have a few interviews to do," Clark said and left the two alone.

"He seems interesting. I didn’t have any friends come to visit other than Julia so I didn’t think I had any. If any came to the home, did you turn them away?" Veronica asked since this was the first time she heard of it.

"No one came to see us since they called first and I told them you needed time before you met with all of them. All the flowers in your hospital room had come from our friends. We’ll need a long session of me telling you about each one of them," Liam said, knowing it would take more than a day to finish.

Veronica didn’t like the sound of that. "It’s becoming too much for me to remember everyone and the time we spent together. It might be better for me to just tell them the truth. Just them if we can trust them. I think it’s time that I meet with friends. I’ve started to settle in well. Do we-"

Veronica was stopped by someone tapping her hand. When she turned to see who it was she was surprised to see Beth.

"We need to talk," Beth said in a hushed tone. She wasn’t going to beg them to leave her alone but she had to know how they got their hands on the phone that was in the room. Had Evelyn betrayed her? "I didn’t do anything to you."
